NEW YORK (CNNMoney) - Mitt Romney and his running mate, Paul Ryan, are accusing President Obama of hurting seniors by slashing $716 billion out of Medicare.
Obama, meanwhile, is attacking Ryan for wanting to "end Medicare as we know it."
"The article states that Obama says that Ryan wants to "End Medicare as we know it" not that Ryan is getting rid of Medicare."
That's because the MSM hasn't allowed anyone to be honest about it. People accurately said "it ends Medicare." It does. It completely changes the system, introduces massive risks that are not currenlty part of it and measurably attenuates the benefits seniors would receive. Slapping the name "Medicare" on it does not make it the same system. The problem is, the GOP/Teatrolls threw a nutty when people pointed out that it ends Medicare and the MSM uncritically played he-said-she-said and helped them disseminate their crybabying about it. This was followed by a disingenuous and highly ridiculous factcheck.org article that claimed the CouponCare Crapshoot is indeed still "Medicare" by saying it's false to claim it ends Medicare....despite the apples/oranges facts of it all. So, Dems had to step back a little and allow the MSM to frame the argument and narrative in false equivalency "fair and balanced" terms...otherwise, the result would have been everyone focusing on an argument about the semantic silliness of calling something that replaces something else that was repealed by the same name in order to claim you saved it...rather than focusing on the facts that show no matter what label you slap on it, the CouponCare Crapshoot is bad bad policy.
"Romney/Ryan should they win in November, would do away with Obamacare, which now protects individuals with pre-existing conditions"
What they really want is to take it all away and then give most of it back so they can say it was their doing that you have it. It's like a kidnapper expecting your thanks and praise when he returns your daughter.
"Paul Ryan cares enough to save an important program while it is still possible."
Not true. He eliminates it ... entirely.
Heck of a stretch there, Lynda. Know what I find funny, though? During the healthcare debate, all you read in these comments was people saying that they wanted the "same healthcare that congress gets". Well, the Ryan plan – IF YOU SO CHOOSE TO USE IT – gives you pretty much exactly that. And YOU DON'T HAVE TO CHOOSE IT... just ask Sen. Wyden, D-Oregon.
Ryan trying his best to hurt senior citizens and the poor.
This is a wake up call to vote all republicans out of the office.
Republicans /Romney is a disaster to america
As someone on Medicare, I don't want a change. I want to keep my Medicare as it is
Don't want a change? You're not forced to have one. Just ask Sen. Wyden, D-Oregon.
Ryan is turning Medicare into a voucher program, which would give seniors far less government assistance than they get now and far less than they need because to Ryan and Romney, it's "too expensive" to give our seniors good health care. So his plan is eliminating Medicare's effectiveness in order to fund tax breaks for the richest americans. It's all in writing. He can deny it all he wants, but there's 11 weeks until the election and Americans will demand answers far before then!
"GM went under from crushing union benefit costs and Obama bailed them out. "
Actually, it was from several years of horrible decision-making and pursuing a terrible business model,
The horrible decisions included GM's buckling into the unions crushing wage and benefit demands to the point that their cars were uncompetitively priced junk that nobody wanted. Last I heard was that unions pension and retiree healthcare costs were adding $2-3,000 to the cost of each vehicle they sold. I might be even more.
And now they have the Volt, which is yet MORE, uncompetitively priced junk that nobody wants. The GM beat goes on...
The bottom line on the Lyin' Plan is simple. When Paul Ryan was asked what would be the annual deficit under his budget plans he replied, "We haven't run the numbers yet."
Haven't run the numbers yet?!?! What kind of voodoo is that? He doesn't care what the deficits are, because that is not is actual goal. Oh, he talks a good game of balancing the budget and ridding us of deficits, but he cannot provide you with actual details. Why? "We haven't run the numbers yet."
Paul Ryan has run some numbers, make no mistake. The numbers that he's run apply to the top 1%, the rest of it is totally irrelevant to his Ayn Rand ideology. Protect the rich at all costs, not matter what it costs. And, he's Mitt Romney's chosen one to protect the rich.
•Ryan won't give details on his unpopular plan, Romney won't give details on what it may be , neither can his communications director. "Trust us, we'll work out the details after the election". Sorry, it won't matter because you won't be in the White House.
