Former Obama campaign co-chair introduces Ryan in Virginia

(CNN) – Artur Davis, the former four-term Democratic congressman from Alabama who co-chaired President Barack Obama's 2008 campaign, introduced the running mate of Obama's Republican challenger in Virginia Friday.

"Are you ready to meet the next vice president of the United States?" Davis asked at a rally in Springfield, Virginia. It was Ryan's second event of the day. He held a rally outside Richmond on Friday morning.

In his introduction, Davis pointed to Ryan's age – he's 42 – as having energized the GOP. Davis is 44.

"Remember a week ago, some of our Democratic friends had the illusion that we were kind of an older party. That were the party of the last generation. One week later I'm the oldest man on this stage right now," Davis said. "What a difference a week makes."

Davis, who said in May he was switching parties from Democrat to Republican, said he had only disagreed with Ryan on one subject: the status of Led Zeppelin as the "#1 band of the modern era."

"I questioned you as you said it. As a Genesis man, I questioned it," Davis said.

He also praised Ryan's willingness to advance a House GOP budget that included sometimes-unpopular cuts to programs in the name of cutting the federal debt.

"President Romney is going to have a vice president who believes, in a town where no one takes responsibility for anything, Washington D.C., this man wrote a budget with tough, hard, necessary choices. He put his name on it," Davis said.

Hey, when Arlen Spector switched parties, Obama didn't question his authenticity; he was welcomed with open arms. When Joe Lieberman switched from Democrat to Independent so he could retain his Senate seat, no one questioned that as well.
So maybe, just maybe, Artur Davis has had a change of heart & procedural issues. After all, he did vote against Obamacare; perhaps that's why he lost the Democratic nomination for Governor in Alabama.
Sometimes change is a good thing.

    California Gary,
What do all the failing governments like Detroit, Scranton and the state of California have in common?
They are all run by Democrats!
You conveniently forget that the current, most economically successful states are run by Republican governors.

Proof positive the Republicrats are real. They are one in the same people. It doesn't matter if you vote for Romney or Obama. If you vote for one of these fools, you truly are throwing your vote away.

What the heck is this guy doing, leaving our plantation? We can't sit by and let our followers know that they can stand up for balanced budgets and "really" equal opportunity, without regard to skin color! This is how we secure our votes and stay in office, by keeping our black population at the bottom, and dependent on us. This uppity one got away, but let's not let the rest of them get ideas about being the equal of white folks!

Artur Davis is a courageous man. He has switched to the party that represents his values today, not at some time long in the past. It's the Democrat Party that's taking them for granted–look how Biden thought he could get away with those racist remarks.

WOW! Look at all the little bïtchy-babies running around here squawking and flapping in outrage because someone they thought they owned decided he had enough of Obama's hate America lies and escaped their plantation!

You have been swooning to Obama's lies and looking to that miserable little wart for leadership for too long. Now that the "hope and change" lie is dissappearing and Obama is twisting and turning as his lies become more bizzare, you continue with outrage, gnashing teeth, spitting blood, heads exploding, charges, accusations, finger-pointing, Bush did it, Fox did it, racists, tea-baggers, stupid voters and on and on. Your super-inflated egos will just not allow you to admit you elected a fruity, racist, little dope-smoking Kenyan.

    Vote American This Time!

you can't keep adding to the deficit. Ryan knows the budget better than anyone. Ryan said it best when he said we guarantee equal opportunity not equal results. democrats will get the votes of those who want to keep their handouts and spreading prosperity. Ryan and romney will get the votes of those who want to work and support their family the old fashion way. There certainly is a difference in ideology, and you should vote the way you believe.
Cut the corporations taxes-which people always classify as giving more to the rich- and which are close to the highest in the world, but corporations can come back to US and provide jobs

but just remember you can't keep giving out those handouts, because we don't have the money to do it. It will run out eventually, and we will be Greece.

Hey California Gary- Why does CA continue to elect leaders from the left? Your state can't afford to pay attention and business is leaving there like a fire storm. You continue to pass legislation you can't pay for, your cities/towns are filing bankruptcy and illegals are taking what little money your state has. What's wrong with you Hollywood loving, ecofreaks? All that plastic surgery out there affecting your brains ability to think?

  13. Rachel mean there is still a Democrat alive with a brain that works? I'm shocked, but happy to hear it. I used to be a Democrat. Unless some other old-school Democrats are still around, these people that call themselves Democrats today are really all Socialists..and most of them don't even realize it. Score one for our failed education system!

Why is it that every time someone changes their mind and leaves he democrap party and joins the Republican party that there is always a few idiots out there who resort to calling them names and other lies about them? democrap ideas just don't seem to work very well and the Republican ideas always seem to make more sense. This lousey behavior is particularly bad when the person making the change happens to be black when the one time democrap party supporter becomes a Republican.

I like this guy. He's bright enough to know that he was on the wrong side and has corrected his mistake. It's so funny to see all the hateful lib dems on here choking on their own bile trying to find a way to explain this to themselves.
"He's an Uncle Tom", "He's step-n-fetchit", "He's been paid off"....LOL – you lefties only re-enforce why you're such degenerate losers.
obbbama the Kenyan commie fraud is gonna lose in a LANDSLIDE in Nov....and that's going to be mighty funny!
    ROMNEY/RYAN...bringing back the sanity.

    California Gary:
You "red staters"......tell me this. If the Republicans have the right ideas about how to govern, why is it that so many of the red states, who continue to elect GOP governors and legislators, have so many people living in poverty? Just wondering.....

Your facts are wrong. Look at the history of the "red states" and you will see democrat after democrat elected in state elections. The GOP took the House in Mississippi for the first time in over 160 years in 2010. Additionally, 2002 saw the first Republican governor in Mississippi since 1920-something. Similary story in Alabama. The South is actually the best argument for NOT voting democrat!

liberal attacks and name calling of people that disagree with them should be expected but still provoke amazement- if you can't attack a person's logical positions, attack them.

I hope this guy is sincere and has realized the error of his ways. I am an indepoendent conservative and not a republican. However, the republican ticket is head and shoulders above what we now have for an adminestration in Washington D.C., so they have my support.

It is astounding to see the hatred that liberal commenters on this article have for this black man. Clearly they are bigots who believe that all blacks must think like they do in order to be respected. How dare the liberals call him an "Uncle Tom." No wonder Mitt Romney has had to ask liberals to take their campaign of hate and anger back to Chicago.

    To California Gary,

Why is it that practically every major city in the United States that have been run / controlled by Democrat leadership for decades have the problems (unemployment, crime, etc.) that they do?
