Tampa, Florida (CNN) - The Republican Party is once again set to enshrine into its official platform support for "a human life amendment" to the Constitution that would outlaw abortion without making explicit exemptions for rape or incest, according to draft language of the platform obtained exclusively by CNN late Monday.
"Faithful to the 'self-evident' truths enshrined in the Declaration of Independence, we assert the sanctity of human life and affirm that the unborn child has a fundamental individual right to life which cannot be infringed," the draft platform declares. "We support a human life amendment to the Constitution and endorse legislation to make clear that the Fourteenth Amendment's protections apply to unborn children."

The party will reaffirm its opposition to federally-funded embryonic stem cell research and demand that the government "not fund or subsidize health care which includes abortion coverage."
Republicans have also inserted a "salute" to states pushing "informed consent" laws - an apparent reference to ultrasound bills that have moved through some state legislatures - "mandatory waiting periods prior to an abortion, and health-protective clinic regulation."
The document, crafted Monday in a subcommittee meeting of the Republican Party's official platform committee in Tampa, is being closely guarded by party officials but was provided to CNN by a Republican source here.
The source cautioned that the statement of principle is still in draft form and must be approved by the full platform committee on Tuesday and by delegates to the Republican National Convention next week.
The GOP's abortion plank faces scrutiny every four years, and this year's document contains language similar to the platforms that were adopted by the party at their conventions in 2000, 2004 and 2008.
But the abortion issue has been thrust into the center of the presidential campaign as this year's convention approaches, thanks to comments from Missouri Rep. Todd Akin, a U.S. Senate candidate, about abortion and "legitimate rape."
Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney and his running mate Paul Ryan sharply condemned Akin's remarks and pledged that under a Romney administration, abortion would be allowed in the case of rape.
An exemption for rape, though, is not included in the platform set to be adopted by the party Romney will officially lead when he accepts the Republican nomination next week.
And Ryan, his vice presidential pick, has opposed exceptions for rape and voted alongside Akin in the House, though Ryan now says he defers to Romney's position on the matter.
Debate over the abortion plank flared four years ago when John McCain, the Republican presidential nominee at the time, said he wanted to add language to the platform to recognize exceptions for rape, incest and the life of the mother.
That prompted angry finger-wagging from top social conservatives.
Tony Perkins, the president of the Family Research Council, chided McCain and said it would be "political suicide" for him to add language about exceptions for rape or incest in the abortion platform.
The same stupid political party.
Alfalfa(Lyin)Ryan and Akin are joined at the hip. The unhinged GOBP tea potty won't cover that up much longer.
This is why the Republicans will lose in November! They're still stuck in the 1950's while a lot of America
is moving forward!
...and then what? An amendment outlawing gay rights? Or one outlawing the right to live and walk while black? I've never seen so much hypocrisy in my lifetime. The GOP encompasses some of the most evil people on the planet, yet they claim to be holy rollers (who in my opinion are actually hell bound).
And we still wonder whether the Republican party is waging a war on women! It could not be more clear now. And to deliberately not add a provision for exceptions in case of rape or incest proves just what ideologues today's Republicans are. They are truly dangerous. If wish the Republican party would just go away. They are a poison!
Back to the dark ages with this party.
Does this mean no exceptions for the life of the mother? Does it mean that you are a citizen only if you are conceived, but not born in the US? Does it mean that we need death certificates for miscarriages and failures to implant? Does it mean that miscarriages count for estates and inheritance? Does it mean that fetuses have a right to property as well? Does it mean that conception certificates will replace birth certficates? Does it mean that the pro-life regime of Ceauscescu will come to America?
Speaking as a lifelong Republican, I'm afraid that the party leadership has once again ignored the mainstream in favor of the vocal minority. How does this platform embody Republican values like smaller government and less interference in the lives of citizens? It's these loud, hare-brained, extremest standpoints on both sides that result in things like the most ineffective Congress in nearly 70 years. Wake up, and realize that the party is for the people, not the other way around.
Isn't there a middle ground here? I am pro-choice and Anti-Democrat. Give people the right to chose their OWN DESTINY. Is that not part of the reasons people fled England for the New World. Why such absolutes?. To me it is political suicide to blindly follow all the conservatives wishes.
will this said human life be able to pursue happiness without assistance from another or the government?
They won't do anything when their in power. They are letting people do all kinds of horrible things for profit. Very powerful influential men/women who own our banks, own the cooperations, run the Federal reserve, run the colleges, own wall street, own the media (both sides) etc... want Eugentics (population control) to flourish under the disguise of global warming/climate which is being created through geoengineering (weather manipulation through chemtrails). People stop being naive that this is just tin foil crazy talk. Our government is under the control of people who want the United Nations who want a communist one world government. They are using intellectual warfare through media influenced by Karl Marx. Both sides are part of this. Paul Ryan is not some savior like the media portrays, kind of like Obama was during the last election.
GOP = anti-women.
If the democrats will learn a lesson from this, they may have found a way to legislate PAST the party of "no." They must "virally" embarrass the stupid, the mistaken and the corrupt publically.
Elephant my rear. You mean dinosaur.
the anti-woman party. the party of "no". the party of deregulation of wall st., big oil, banks and businesses and "freedom" makes a deeply personal choice for every woman in America and decides to regulate THEIR bodies, and take away a woman's freedom to choose. anyone voting Republican in this upcoming election will be endorsing this platform, and will be taking away fundamental freedoms: pushing women back into where they want them - barefoot and pregnant, even in the case of rape or incest. if this isn't a wake-up call, America, i don't know what is...
GOP is doomed. They will continue to lose as they keep shrinking their tent...............
Looks like the GOP is doing everything it can to keep Obama in office another four years, to the ruin of us all. Of course, the R&R ticket couldn't have done much better themselves anyway.
I think Todd Akin should be the key note speaker.
How about staying out of the matter entirely?
I'm voting GOP this year, solely because I can't vote for another 4 years of Obama, even though I'm staunchly pro-choice, but the GOP has to remove it's religious wing if it wants to win future elections.
Dark ages are coming.....
Until congress is 95% women stay away from the topic. Us old white guys don't have the first clue as to what decisions a woman must make.
What about Medicare? What about Social Security? What about JOBS?
Nobody cares about abortion issues. Look at the polls.
Seriously after that what happens in that party and trickle down economics, govt subsidized dancing horses for the rich and the ever declining Americacn wage to enrich themselves what else could a bunch of hypocrits come up with to appease the Catholic Church? A pledge to get even deeper into peoples inner-most thoughts, Of course they see themselves as the Creators of all that is money. And what a religious ticket one is going to become a god and the other worshipping closeted of course the works of Rand. And you wonder why no one goes to church except the few???
This is why we need a third party. The other 2 have no middle ground or common sense.
The Republican Party, in an effort to please the most backward and ignorant segment of the American population, is about to plunge America back into the social stone age. Their all out attacks on the social network including Health care, Medicare, and Social Security, along with welfare, women's rights, voting suppression, and tax breaks for the rich, will kill the middle-class. Their outright lying to the American population on every issue should be a serious warning to all. This next election, if Republicans win, could be the death of America.
