Ann Romney rebounded from several medical problems

Washington (CNN) – As Ann Romney begins to take center stage at next week's Republican convention, we are learning more about some of the problems she has endured and how she fought back.

The Romneys, who are protective of the details of their private family life, have spoken often about Ann's battle with multiple sclerosis which was diagnosed in 1998. After the Super Tuesday primaries, she had a recurrence which she kept secret at the time but has since discussed in an interview with CNN.

Mrs. Romney also has described to CNN how she successfully fought an early-stage breast cancer diagnosis in 2008.

Several months after the couple's youngest son, Craig, was born in 1981, Ann had emergency surgery. After not feeling well, she was rushed to the hospital where doctors found a growth in her abdomen, two sources familiar with the situation told CNN.

Around 1991, ten years after Craig's birth, the couple suffered a miscarriage, the sources confirmed. Ann was about four and a half months pregnant when it happened. The sources refused to speak on the record because the Romneys did not want the details made public.

The Associated Press first reported on Saturday Mrs. Romney had had a stillbirth, but sources told CNN it was in fact a miscarriage.

Those close to the Romneys say Ann's medical problems and how she recovered from them exemplify her strength of will and determination.

Suppose people say this woman has this sickness so she is not fit to be first lady, many people look at it as being
mean to the romneys. This is while it is not necessary to hear about what happened to her over the years. I think the romneys should note that the public want to know also what happen to the tax returns, we have the right to know
about them, at least five years of returns as suggested by the democrats will solve the whole problem..

Who cares? She has access to the best doctors and round-the-clock care.

So what if it paid off for the spolied rotten, pampered princess?

I care more about the poor who DO NOT have access to the kind of care that woman could get.

She obviously had severe challenges with her health. Thankfully, she had access to good medical care. You would think the Romney's would want that for everyone after their personal experience.......yet Mitt wants to repeal Obamacare on day 1 if he is elected. Medical care is apparently only for the rich in his view.

You should be ashamed of yourselves. Even a political campaign should not cause statements like that. May you have a life free of illness.

Interesting how Romney trots his sick wife out every time he needs to deflect attention from his efforts to deny the rest of us affordable health care.

And god bless her for doing this. We all wish her nothing short of health and happiness. But let us also never forget those millions who did not enjoy the happy coincidence of being born into wealth and marrying into wealth and not ever having to worry for a minute where the money is coming from for healthcare.

Glad she's healthy. Wonder if she'd be as happy for the people that didn't have her ability to pay the bill? Her health I'm sure, is just as important to her, as for most others. The fact remains that she has access to options, that the majority don't have. Is the question to be asked one of social rank, brought on by wealth, or lack of social rank, brought on by being a part of the working middle class? Also, remember that regardless of what you've been told there's only so much room at the top. And those at the top are reluctant to share.

while i sympathize with queen ann, i think she should just stay home and rest, politics is very stressful, but on the other hand if you want to be first lady, then you have to roll with the punches.

Ann Romney has had access to the best medical care period, many people do not. I heard her talking to Brian Williams and she said whenshe was diagnosed with MS she had IV steriods twice a week for over a year and her MS went in remission. ell, thats great, but the truth is the average american even with great insurance cannot get the IV steriods for more than a 3 or 4 day period every 6 months. Why? It is too expensive and insurance companies won't pay. So, you do the oral prednisone and have periodic progressions. This shows why we need great medical care for all, not just for the super rich Romneys. Healthcar is important, more important than funding ars for other countries!
