On the Trail: Tuesday, August 21

(CNN) – Mitt Romney will spend Tuesday fundraising in Texas, holding finance events in Houston and Midland. Republican running mate Paul Ryan will campaign in Pennsylvania Tuesday before heading to Roanoke, Virginia for the night. He first delivers remarks at a campaign event just outside of Pittsburgh then jumps to the other side of the state for another rally in West Chester.

President Barack Obama begins a two-day tour of Ohio and Nevada with events in Columbus and Reno Tuesday. Vice President Biden will also begin a two-day campaign trip with stops in Minneapolis and Rochester, Minnesota.

Meanwhile, the RNC Platform Committee meets Tuesday in Tampa ahead of the Republican National Convention beginning August 27.

First on CNN: GOP prepares tough anti-abortion platform
The Republican Party is once again set to enshrine into its official platform support for "a human life amendment" to the Constitution that would outlaw abortion without making explicit exemptions for rape or incest, according to draft language of the platform obtained exclusively by CNN late Monday.

CNN: GOP chair: Akin should drop out, skip convention
The Republican National Committee chairman called on Rep. Todd Akin Monday to exit the U.S. Senate race in Missouri, even urging the congressman not to attend the party's convention next week in Tampa. "I would prefer that Todd Akin do the right thing for our party and our candidates, and I would prefer him not come," Reince Priebus said on CNN's "Erin Burnett OutFront." Akin, a Missouri Republican, has faced severe backlash from both Republicans and Democrats since making a controversial comment Sunday regarding rape and pregnancy.
