Romney says he spends 'more wisely' than Obama campaign

(CNN) – Mitt Romney, in remarks at a fund-raiser Tuesday, took a jab at President Barack Obama's campaign one day after financial filings revealed the president's re-election team had spent more money than it raised in July.

"We're a little wiser in our spending of dollars than the other side, apparently," Romney said, according to pool reports. "I'm not managing their campaign for them, but we're going to spend our money wisely. We're going to spend it to win."

The presumptive GOP presidential nominee made his comments while speaking at a private fund-raising event in Houston–one of two events in Texas for Romney on Tuesday. He later heads to Midland for a reception at the Petroleum Club. Combined, the events are expected to yield $6-7 million, the campaign said.

Obama's team took in $49.2 million in July but spent $59 million, according to the campaign's monthly filing with the Federal Election Commission released Monday. The campaign reported finishing the month with $87.7 million in the bank, down from $97.7 million at the beginning of July.

Reports also show that when combining the Obama campaign's haul with that of the Obama Victory Fund and the Democratic National Committee, the Obama re-election effort had about $124 million in the bank. The amount is considerably less than that of Romney's campaign and allies, which announced they had $185.9 million in the bank at the end of July.

The former Massachusetts governor also told the crowd, which included energy executives such as oil tycoon Harold Hamm, that he would be laying out a "comprehensive energy plan" in New Mexico by the end of the week. Romney, who said the plan would focus on "fossil-based fuels," asked the audience for input as he decides on the final details of the plan.

"I have a different approach, I think, generally to the role of government as it relates to energy, as well as other aspects of our economy," Romney said. "And it flows from a growing perspective I have throughout my life and frankly, during this campaign, about the power of individuals as opposed to government, individuals pursuing their interests and dreams."

Sen. Rob Portman of Ohio, Texas Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst and Senate candidate Ted Cruz of Texas were also at the Houston event.

What is with these guys with more money than they can possibly spend putting their ego job before family?
Romney should be doing anything Ann wants while searching for a cure for MS. Instead, like Edwards he runs, not once but twice for President.
Just another reason to vote NO on Romney

If Romney spends a couple hundred million more than Obama and still loses, does that qualify as spending money more wisely? Romney may be the first candidate in the history of the world to spend over a billion and lose.

By historical standards, Bishop Mitten's should be well ahead in the polls.

Instead Mittens is well behind Obama!

So once again, the FACTS do not support Bishop Mitten's claims of running a better campaign! LOL

In July according to the report of CNN, Obama took in $49.2 million dollars and spent $59 million dollars putting his campaign -$9.80 million in the red. Obama has done the same with our country, the debt keeps getting bigger and he doesn't stop.

Why would you trumpet the fact that a HANDFUL OF FILTHY RICH MYSTERIOUS DONORS are funneling MILLIONS OF MILLIONS of dollars into your campaign?

That turns pretty much everyone off to you.

The election is NOT FOR SALE – It does not matter how much money you have or how wisely you spend it – When your campaign is all about LIES – Cheating – Flip-Flopping and Etch-A-Sketching, the American people figured that out a long time ago and already made up their minds!!!

On another note – Why isn't Paul Ryan out there asking Akin to resign????????????????????
WAKE UP AMERICA – Even if Akin resigns the ELEMENTS or his beliefs still exists in Romney, Ryan, the TP and the rest of the far-right conservative Republicans that are trying to BUY this election!!.

Obama 2012 – The Only Trusted Way Forward!!!

    False and False.
The latest RCP has Obama +2.5 not what I would consider a big lead

The incumbent should be way out in front before the conventions and debates. Carter was +6 over Regan in August and we all know what happened next.

What's the point of having money in the bank to get reelected, if legally Obama can't get reelected a third time anyway? There's no reason not to spend the money, especially with less than three months left in the race. He could spend 20 or 25 million more than he takes in each month through the remainder of the election and still have money in the bank.

I think Mitt hasn't figured out that the money he has leftover after losing the election he can't just pocket and walk away with, like at Bain Capital...

If you call wise being 47th in "job creation" hiding money in Cayman Islands, Bermuda, Swiss Banks, or not revealing your tax returns when you are running for the highest office in the land "President of the United States," the, your wisdom is short sited, inept, unorthodox, and least desirable!
