Romney says he spends 'more wisely' than Obama campaign

(CNN) - Mitt Romney, in remarks at a fund-raiser Tuesday, took a jab at President Barack Obama's campaign one day after financial filings revealed the president's re-election team had spent more money than it raised in July.

"We're a little wiser in our spending of dollars than the other side, apparently," Romney said, according to pool reports. "I'm not managing their campaign for them, but we're going to spend our money wisely. We're going to spend it to win."

The presumptive GOP presidential nominee made his comments while speaking at a private fund-raising event in Houston–one of two events in Texas for Romney on Tuesday. He later heads to Midland for a reception at the Petroleum Club. Combined, the events are expected to yield $6-7 million, the campaign said.

Obama's team took in $49.2 million in July but spent $59 million, according to the campaign's monthly filing with the Federal Election Commission released Monday. The campaign reported finishing the month with $87.7 million in the bank, down from $97.7 million at the beginning of July.

Reports also show that when combining the Obama campaign's haul with that of the Obama Victory Fund and the Democratic National Committee, the Obama re-election effort had about $124 million in the bank. The amount is considerably less than that of Romney's campaign and allies, which announced they had $185.9 million in the bank at the end of July.

The former Massachusetts governor also told the crowd, which included energy executives such as oil tycoon Harold Hamm, that he would be laying out a "comprehensive energy plan" in New Mexico by the end of the week. Romney, who said the plan would focus on "fossil-based fuels," asked the audience for input as he decides on the final details of the plan.

"I have a different approach, I think, generally to the role of government as it relates to energy, as well as other aspects of our economy," Romney said. "And it flows from a growing perspective I have throughout my life and frankly, during this campaign, about the power of individuals as opposed to government, individuals pursuing their interests and dreams."

Sen. Rob Portman of Ohio, Texas Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst and Senate candidate Ted Cruz of Texas were also at the Houston event.

Oh Willard, you really should stop making such ridiculous statements. We have seen you and your bloodsuckers bragging for months how much money your campaign is raking in. Your billionaire pimps have been giving you money hand over fist while President Obama has been receiving his donations from everyday people like myself. Yes baggers, I do realize Bill Maher gave him a million, but no one has given 100 million. Boy Willard is going to owe some favors..... Anywho it's not that you're better with money, you just had much more to start with. You know, kinda like your life. Too bad we all weren't born with silver spoons in our mouths or in your case, silver foot.

We're in trouble if these guys get in office.....

    OBAMA 2012!

If ex-Gov Romney outsourced his campaign to China he would get better value for his money - a workforce with no expectations or rights, willing to put in 12 or more hour days as needed, all for a bowl of right and a place to sleep (in shifts, of course - don't want that bed going to waste!) It worked for Bain, didn't it? Americans need to be put in their place! And that place would be under the heel of the multi-gazillionaires like Mitt. Who needs chains when you have got debt? In the land of debtors the man with credit is king!

the one spending their money foolishly is Romney, he is spending all these millions that his rich billionaire friends are giving him and he is going to tell me how that makes him smarter? Romney has only a few billionaires giving him 10 million at one time....Obama is getting $25 from millions of peope....I think that speaks for itself.......

Does he realize that he sounds like a complete idiot? One of the wealthiest men in the country who inherited his money from Daddy, with foreign bank accounts to avoid taxes, is saying that he spends money wisely? Yeah, you're just an average guy. I'd lay money he doesn't even know what money actually looks like.

Comon Mitt I thought you were brighter than that, Obama spent more then they raised in July cause he had a war chest he didn;t tap much from during the primary season, only reason you didn;t spend much is cause your near spending limits for the primary you don;t get new spedning limits until after the primary, Obama is spendiing all he can before his primary season is over............he spent wisely for the first 6 months leaving him money when you had little left from your buy of the nomination

What is wrong with you people? Don't you know what it is like to inherit billions from your father? It is not Mitt's fault that he is out of touch with people who have to choose between paying their electricity or buying food for their children! He has never needed money, so of course he thinks he spends it well.

Romney is the American People are seeing what this man is all about. He is known for being a coward, ran to France under the guise of his church. In many circles he is a good business man, in others he is a man who broke other men down by closing their companies, these men lost their insurance, lost their pensions and lost their income, to top it off the govt. had to step in with millions to save their retirement income they worked for so many years to save. and he keeps his money offshore and won't admit to what he's playing in taxes. Total CON ARTIST!!!!

Anyone in their right mind can't vote Romney.

George Romney resisted releasing a single year of taxes, arguing that it wouldn't present an accurate picture...but then he made a surprising offer: He would release the past 12 years of tax returns...That way, it wouldn't look like a stunt

For eight years he has been spending wisely while stalking the President, is it wise to try and buy the Whitehouse ? Romney hides his money in other countries and I wonder if that is wise when you are trying to become President of the United States of America. Retroactive Romney says the darndest things

Mittens energy plan is a polluters dream. Natural gas is already in excess and cheap. There is plenty of oil around. So what is his new plan? He is an empty suit, cult leader, draft dodger, tax cheat and job killer.

obama has a career of spending free money...from his cradle on. So naturally he is inept financially...gosh look at the national debt since he took office and EVERYTHING he wants to do cost taxpayer money and increases debt. Look at his energy policy and what it is doing to our economy, rising gas prices, electrical rates, and on and on. Were even going t end up in a middle astern war with Iran soon and see what that's going to cost us, all due to an inept amateur marxist president.

obama had his 2nd white house press event yesterday...the 2nd this year. President Bush averaged 2.2 a month for his eight years...sure would be nice to see this guy look us straight in the eye and answer unscripted questions for ONCE! If he can't control the media he won't play ball...why is that? What is he hiding? How can we vote for him under these conditions?

Soon, Romney will be using all of the money that he is raising, to open even more campaign offices throughout the country as well!! There is an article by the Associated Press on another site–that talks about all of the money that Romney is raising in Democratic districts!!! The moderate/sane Democrats are just like the Republicans and Independents-–they want to send Obama back to Chicago where he belongs in November!! That is why you do not see Obama campaigning with any Democrats-they do not want him to!! The only Democrats that want Obama anywhere near them-is if they come from loony liberal New York or California!!

The constant lying from the Romney campaign is bugging me the most. I don't mind differences but can't stand outright lying.

The whole Republican story line is that Obama took money from Medicare to fund The Affordable Care Act. What he did was got rid of wasteful spending within Medicare and the insurance companies. It has no bearing on what we have now. He also closed the "donut hole" that so many fall through and this has actually strengthened Medicare for at least another 8 years. Getting rid of wasteful spending within Medicare is not "stealing" Medicare money!!
Ryan and Romney's Plan is to hand seniors a voucher and tell them to go buy insurance with it as if insurance companies are eager to insure the elderly and those with pre-existing conditions. Anyone can loose their job tomorrow and their insurance. Anyone can find out tomorrow they may have cancer. Romney and Ryan are dangerous to the wellness of this country and its citizens. Next on the list will be Social Security.

Mittens spent $15 million in negative ads against his fellow repubes in the FL primary for 30 delegates. Now that was money well spent.

Hey, this must be what they call trickle down economics. Keep collecting and spending the money your get from the 1%ers. The economy needs you to waste as much money as possible. The waiters, earning minimum wage with no benefits, who are serving cocktails and canapes at your fundraisers need those Adelson/Koch Bros./big oil/big insurance dollars. Too bad the rich haven't found a way to make their votes count more than the average person. Alas, we still live in a Democracy.

What's the point in having more money than your opponent if you're still going to loose. It has happened twice before. The
first was when he ran against Ted kennedy and the second was when he ran against John Mccain, he still lost to both of
them even though he had more money than they did and it's not going to be any different if he has more money than Barrack Obama.

Hey, this must be what they call trickle down economics. Keep collecting and spending the money your get from the 1%ers. The economy needs you to waste as much money as possible. The waiters, making minimum wage with no benefits, need you to spend as many Adelson, Koch Bros/ big oil/ big insurance lobby dollars as you can. Here's you big chance to be a job creator Mitt. Too bad we still live in a Democracy and that the rich cannot find a way to make their vote count more based on net worth; although they certainly keep trying.

Spending 'more wisely' would mean he spent less than or equal to Obama AND have a significant lead (or lead at all).
Willard is behind. And losing ground. The Ryan pick wasn't even a bump. Not with all his baggage. Mitt, try NOT lying to Americans and maybe they might take what you say into consideration. This spending statement is merely an opinion he's trying to pass off as matter of fact. Again, if he loses, he DID NOT spend 'more wisely' then President Obama. Might not want to count those chickens before they hatch...

I said it before and I'll say it again: With the economy in the sad state that it is in, Robmeyhood should be way ahead in the polls. However, NEARLY, NOT ALL, the polls show him trailing or in a dead heat. What does this say for Mittens?
