Capitol Police, FBI investigating threat against Akin

Washington (CNN) –U.S. Capitol Police and the FBI are investigating a reported threat against Rep. Todd Akin, a police spokeswoman said Thursday.

There is "an active, open investigation, Lt. Kimberly Schneider said, without revealing further details, citing a policy against discussing the security of members of Congress.

Pressure from the mainstream Republican Party has mounted on the Missouri representative to drop his bid to unseat Democratic Sen. Claire McCaskill in November because of his comments about "legitimate rape" and opposing abortion in rape cases.

Akin was in Tampa, Florida, on Thursday ahead of the Republican National Convention, huddling with top conservative activists and assessing whether to proceed with his embattled candidacy.

Multiple sources at the Council for National Policy conference, which Akin attended, told CNN that the congressman is being encouraged by leading figures in the conservative movement to remain in the Senate race even as he faces pressure from the Republican establishment to withdraw.

Republicans want this guy gone; Democrats consider him the gift that keeps on giving.

I say bring all the Republicans in for questioning! ;)

I don't believe anyone has threatened this man and this is no more than his own desperate attempt for sympathy and to empower himself. The Republicans have asked him to quit, not supporting him in his campaign.

Did someone threaten to rape him in a non-legitimate and non-forcible manner?

You can be certain the "threat" is coming from the mind of Rep. Akins in an attempt to rally his moronic supporters.

While we're in the mood to investigate threats we should arrest that Lubbock County, Texas judge who threatens Civil War when President Obama is relected. He believes, in his twisted, right-wing mind, the President would use United Nations troops in an effort to "hand-over" the U.N. This sedious piece of filth is serving as a judge and his "judgement" seriously impacts people's lives. The ultra-right-wing is out of control and he is a perfect example of why they should be voted out of every office in the United States before they have increased positions of authority.

Probably some woman who became pregnant after being raped – which according to this guy makes her A) biologically defective (because her body is magically supposed to shut that down), B) someone who feels that he has called her rape "iligitimate", or C) someone who feels that he has deemed her "gently raped" as opposed to "forcibly raped". This guy should lose his job.

Well, shouldn't they make sure it was a "legitimate threat"? I mean – is he even pregnant?

Look folks, the guy is scientifically illiterate, and managed to insult several hundred thousand women. But it's not a death penalty offense to be dumb as a post. He's a better target for a punch line than a punch.

So...it was probably one of the Republican big boys that made the threat. They know that Congressman Akin is Obama's best campaign weapon to date.

You mean he's being protected by the very government he claims will wage war against him?

Maybe the way to tone down the two parties discourse is to offer their representatives on the Hill zero police protection, none. This provides at least some consequence for the inflamatory and idiot acts coming from the Hill.

So they're going to investigate some fool who was just talking most likely, but they're not going to pay a visit to a judge who is basically talking treason?
