Reporter Orlando Salinas with CNN affiliate WDBJ in Virginia said he had only five minutes - time for about 12 questions in his Wednesday interview with Ryan - so he kept them short.

He asked the candidate, who is Mitt Romney's running mate and chairman of the House Budget Committee, about a fast-food chain that has become a point for both rally and protest after its CEO expressed his opposition to same-sex marriage.

"Chick fil-A," Salinas asked. "Good chicken," Ryan answered, laughing. "Free people exercising their free speech rights.”

Then there were the serious questions.

To "transparency as a politician," Ryan responded, "Fire Barack Obama and hire Mitt Romney."

"Coal energy." Ryan's answer: "We have a lot of it. Let's use it."

"The hardest thing you have ever had to do in your personal life as a man, as a father," Salinas asked.

Ryan said, "The hardest things are sometimes the best things. The hardest things are balancing your life, keeping your faith, keeping your family healthy and strong."

As the interview ended, Salinas told Ryan that he didn't mean the questioning to be of the "gotcha" variety, and Ryan said, "I've never really done anything like that before. It was interesting."

But what does Ryan think of the president?

"He said he would be one thing, and he's a completely different politician than we thought he would be in 2008," Ryan replied to the name "Barack Obama."

I challenge some of the above posters to do a little homework regarding Ryan's suggested changes to medicare as opposed to just accepting the DNC party-line. Either fix it now, or lose it forever. The cash-cow is drying up.

So a Tea Party group, True the Vote, is going to have "poll-watchers" stationed at voting places around the country, particularly at primarily black areas, pretending they are there to make sure legitimate voters only get to vote. But they are there to intimidate people. I hope the federal government is aware of this. And John Husted, the Ohio Secretary of State, the Republican guy running the elections in the state of Ohio, will be a featured speaker at a Tea Party-backed True the Vote summit in Ohio. How cozy is that!!

I do so hope that both Eddie and Herman Munster continue to piss off the electorate that they quite evidently feel they do not need to win this election.
I find this unholy duo very, very motivating for those of us that support our President and those that hadn't quite made up their minds to do so but now feel it is the only sane, and responsible choice.
Obama 2012. Because we're serious about America.

Is it just me or does the republican party do whatever they want to do?

It looks like we will all be getting mormonism shoved down our throats. Did anyone see the interview on Rock Center last night? Complete with a video of a young Joseph Smith finding whatever crap he supposedly found. I really could care less because any religion that thinks my skin color is a curse is non existent to me.

Speaking of mormonism, has anyone ever seen September Dawn with Jon Voight and Dean Cain. Really good and sad movie based on a true story about the mormons.

On transparency, Ryan said fire the president and hire Willard. Now that's funny, if it wasn't so hypocritical. Willard, who will not release his tax returns, who hides his money in off-shore accounts, who does not want to discuss his time at Bain unless he himself brings it up, and does not want to talk about being governor of Massachussets, yet somehow Paul Ryan thinks Willard is transparent. It does not pass the smell test. Quite frankly, it stinks.

Ryan word association = extremist why?..... same exact beliefs as Todd Akin who co-authored a rape-defintion bill with (like "forcible rape vs consensual rape) and co-authored with Todd Akin the "personhood" bill making fertilized eggs "people", banning contraception for women and making it illegal.

Ryan word association = corporate puppet who cares nothing about the People why? The Ryan budget kills Medicare completely, kills Medicaid completely, kills Social Security completely. kills all programs for the People from public education to veteran benefits to food stamps to the existence of a minimum wage, unemployment insurance etc. Not one dime goes to the deficit – ALL goes to corporate welfare: no taxes, no regulations on them whether EPA or worker, no regulations on banks again, and even lower tax rates on the wealthy. Romney would pay a 1% income tax under the Ryan plan while taxes fgo up on the middle class and the poor.

Ryan word association: :Liar Why? Denies all of the above while his Congressional voting record and bill record proves it. Lies for Romney. Catholic Church has come out publically against Ryan caling his plan "IMMORAL" and "AGAINST THE TEACHINGS OF JESUS". (Ryan is a Catholic)

Ryan word association: Loser Why? Romney poll numbers dropped after the Ryan pick and continue to fall as people learn more about Ryan's extreme beliefs and Congressional record. He is the male Palin.

Yes, Medicare needs reform but not the way Ryan wants to do it (send everyone off to the insurance companies.) The Affordable Health Care Plan is a beginning. It will take more people off Meidicare but give them a safety net. There are many other ways to cut costs–rein in waste, duplication, streamline services, tighten regulations etc etc. None of these do te GOP want to do. They just want to scrap it. It's the lazy way of doing things. They don't want to do the real, non-sexy work to improve it.

Obama is going to leave one huge mess for Romney to clean up. We're starting to decline into another recession and Obama hasn't done squat in 4 years to get the economy back on track. The Obama Tax Cuts and "temporary" payroll tax holidays have continued and that bill is coming due in January. So Romney will have another recession to deal with, with a starting point of 8.5% unemployment and a $1.5 TRILLION yearly deficit. You know, as competent as Romney is, even he might be able to fix Obama's mess. Obama took a hole ten feet deep and turned it into a 30 feet deep hole. If Obama gets re-elected it will be justice of sorts for him to have to fix his dsaster. Problem is that he has already proven he can't fix anything. He only knows how to make it worse and kick the can down the road. The other problem is there is no more road left.

gord - universal healthcare would fix medicaid and medicare
    ============================================
The federal government taking over one sixth (and growing) of our economy would fix it? Seriously?? Like it has "fixed" social security??? Like it has "fixed" medicare???? And where are these TRILLIONS of dollars EVERY YEAR going to come from????

You obviously don't know how to do simple math, just like most liberals.

universal healthcare would fix medicaid and medicare
    -----
You know, gord, I can see how folks might feel that way. Admittedly, it sounds logical on the surface. But when you peel back the layers of the onion, the fact is that the healthcare industry is fully 17% of GDP. Most assuredly, a universal healthcare system would HAVE to increase that amount even further. The question is, therefore, where is that astonomical amount of money going to come from?

I do hope Obama wins. So he can finally put the nail in the coffin of this country. People here esp. forget how our previous generations struggled to ensure our govt would not be tyrannical. They knew what a socialism did to destroy their countries and came here for a better life. Yet this generation thinks we should go back to very thing their ancestors rejected. Yes I do hope Obama wins. There would be more layoffs, more spending, higher gas, inflation, an bad housing market, medicare will be bankrupt, the promises of entitlement will be broken, and this country ends up bankrupt & no longer a super power.
Yes I do hope Obama wins. Because finally all that want USA to fail, will be very happy.

Yeah, whatever. A man that can't even control his own political party now probably isn't going to fare well in any future competency tests ... like, oh, I don't know ... dealing with Putin (and others) - let alone his own political party fanatics.

@ Truth? – Explain how adding middlemen (insurance companies) to Medicare will "fix" it? Insurance companies waste 10-25% of your health care dollars for no value added to your health care.

If insurance companies were the SOLUTION (and they are NOT), we wouldn't have a PROBLEM (and we DO) with health care costs with our current system. Hahahahahahaha
