CNN Poll: Did Akin comments have public opinion impact?

Washington (CNN) – The controversy over Rep. Todd Akin's comments on abortion appears to have created a significant shift in public opinion on that issue, principally among younger Americans, according to a new nationwide poll by CNN/ORC International.

The Republican Senate nominee in Missouri and six-term congressman, who has deep ties to Christian conservatives, sparked a firestorm following comments in a TV interview Sunday when he said that a woman's body is capable of preventing pregnancy in cases of "legitimate rape" while explaining his stance that there should be no abortion exemption for rape or incest.

CNN Poll: Obama 49%-Romney 47% among likely voters

Washington (CNN) - With three days to go until the start of the Republican convention, President Barack Obama and GOP challenger Mitt Romney remain deadlocked in the race for the White House, according to a new national survey.

A CNN/ORC International poll released Friday also indicates Romney's favorable rating among those likely to vote in the presidential election is in the same ballpark as the president's, and the survey also points to a slightly higher level of enthusiasm for Republicans than Democrats.

Romney campaign contemplating bumping Rubio for Ann Romney

Tampa, Florida (CNN) - The Mitt Romney campaign is considering a dramatic scheduling change for the GOP convention to guarantee his wife, Ann, a much larger national audience – but the shift could also cause tensions with a rising GOP star and Latinos, CNN has learned.

If Ann Romney is moved to Thursday night, she would introduce her husband and bump Sen. Marco Rubio from that role. GOP sources confirm such a move is under consideration but stress, like many other convention scheduling questions, no final decision has been made.

Romney campaign pushes Republican delegate changes

Tampa, Florida (CNN) - In a move backed by Mitt Romney advisers, Republicans just made it harder for grassroots activists to undermine the outcome of primaries and caucuses at state conventions.

The rules change, approved Friday by Republican National Committee officials in Tampa, was an implicit response to efforts by Ron Paul supporters to secure delegates at GOP state conventions and overturn the results of various primaries and caucuses.
