Romney on political emotions, Mormonism and a Romney White House

(CNN) - Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney and his wife Ann Romney weighed in on the emotional side of politics as well as their faith in an interview published online Friday.

While admitting to the occasional display of emotion, Romney told PARADE that "I don't show it quite as clearly as John Boehner," invoking the House speaker, known for a tendency to be moved to the point of tears during powerful moments.

Romney, who rarely mentions his faith on the campaign trail, talked lightheartedly about the religious practice of tithing, specifically the Mormon practice of giving 10 percent of one's income to the church.

Ann Romney said that she loves tithing and when they give the check, she cries. Romney joked that he cries too-but for a different reason.

"I think you'll find that conservatives are more generous philanthropically than people who are not conservative," said Romney. "People who are in favor of small government are very much in favor of personal action to help other people in need."

The Republican couple said they see their party as "United" following next week's Republican Convention in Tampa, Florida. Romney will be officially entered into nomination at the convention beginning on Monday through a roll call vote of the convention's delegates.

Ann Romney said, if her husband were to become president, her focus as first lady would be working with at-risk youth. Similar to Michelle Obama, Ann Romney has been a highly visible and popular surrogate for her husband on the campaign trail.

Asked to paint a picture of the White House under a Romney administration, the presumptive GOP nominee said that it would be a welcoming place with tours and concerts of all different music genres and, yes–there would be a horse.

"Well, probably not at the White House itself, but nearby so she could go for her therapy," said Romney of his would-be White House therapy horse. Ann Romney was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 1998 and has said she uses riding as a form of therapy.

Personally, I am not interested in Romney's iPod playlists – I am more interested in hearing a cohesive platform. Unfortunately, Romney and CO. are too busy telling everyone how to live, and sticking their noses into our private concerns.

What hypocrites they are. Those of us who clearly read the Bible know this:
Matthew 6:4 Be careful not to do your 'acts of righteousness' before men, to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven.

so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.

Is that right? You mean those that are still alive AFTER THEIR HEALTHCARE HAS BEEN TAKEN AWAY?

Willard and Ann do America a BIG favor and disappear forever.

1st Romney criticizes Obama on the comment about business doing well, then he himself says close to the same thing.
2nd Now Romney has joined the birther party.
3rd now R/R have amended their health care plan. What, the original wasn't correct? Question on the voucher: does this mean you no longer have to look for a doctor that will except medicare? They can charge what they want? Cost increase here we come. The voucher is to help pay for private health insurance. As we all know the premiums for reasonable insurance is high. Also insurances WILL NOT cover pre-existing conditions... therefore the vouchers are useless... especially for the elderly that usually have pre-existing conditions.

  7. mormon birther for President

This Mormon birther is so full of it. To stereotype people as not being generous because they are not conservative reveals what a out of touch snob he is. We watched a NBC special last night about the Mormon faith and it is scary how they treat women and members that disagree with their teaching. It is a cult and people appear as if they are brainwashed. There is a reason Mormons were run out of our country in the 1800's. There is no way I will vote for this tax evading draft dodger cult leader. Neither lies or money will buy my vote because I value my freedom and our country's freedom.

Mitt should be concentrating on his wife's health and not running for President. Is he trying to prove something to daddy? He doesn't need the job. the country doesn't need him and he is showing his priorities to not be family.

""People who are in favor of small government are very much in favor of personal action to help other people in need.""

Nothing says "realistic" like ignoring the historical record that establishes the absence of such sentiment and behavior as the proof that the programs and regulations these ideologues want to kill were necessary in the first place.

What...you think SS, Medicare and other programs or mainimum wage and hours laws or OSHA were invented just because people "felt like it" or got all wishy washy hippy commune about stuff? THE SH-T THE GOP WANTS TO KILL WAS MADE NECESSARY BY THE FACT THAT WHEN THOSE PRORGAMS/REGS DIDN'T EXIST, NEITHER DID THE IMAGINARY PHILANTHROPY AND ALTRUISM MITTENS IS GOING ON ABOUT AND...SHOCKER...IT CAUSED ALOT OF PROBLEMS.

I agree 100% I too watched that NBC special last night trying to keep an open mind (I admit it's difficult mind you since we live in the "Mo-Mo" belt Idaho so we see first hand how they like to watch out for their own and the special favors they get at the orginzation where I work) but it's quite frightening to see how much power this religous organization really has – I also like how they feel like it's "their time" Their time to what I kept asking myself....

I dunno...I've heard that straddling a $77K annual tax return is pretty relaxing.

If the storm in Florida forces a change of venue for the RNC in Tampa. They can always move it to Las Vegas, the Romneys would feel right at home. Check the history of Mormons and Las Vegas at Wikipedia, all the contrived interviews won't change the facts.

You read the Bible??? That's a joke. You wished Rep.Issa to be BLOWN away forever at the RNC Convention in Tampa because he complained that William McMahon is getting a paycheck from his government job without working it and is allowed to work full-time for JP Morgan so he can qualify for retirement. Yeah, you read the Bible, sure you do.

God forbid if this man is elected. Ann just wants to help at risk kids so that she and Mitt can talk late at night about how poor they are. Wake up America, the Romneys are phony and we all know it. It taks more than being rich and white to be president. They have no character at all.

@myviewis: Have you read this in the Bible?

Matthew 25:37-40: 37 “Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? 38 When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? 39 When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’

“The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’

Yeah, you read the Bible, sure you do ...
