Romney promises better leadership on employment

(CNN) - In his weekly podcast, Mitt Romney called out President Barack Obama for weak leadership on the economy, and said that under his administration, "help is on the way."

"Anxiety has never been higher," Romney said in the remarks, noting that unemployment increased in 44 states in the latest week reported. "Another new report out of Washington warns that higher unemployment and a double-dip recession will be a reality next year unless immediate steps are taken to avert what they're calling a 'fiscal cliff.' "

Seasonally adjusted numbers from the Department of Labor showed 372,000 new unemployment claims for the week ending August 18, which was an increase from 368,000 the previous week.

Romney noted the individuals behind those numbers, such as parents, families, and a "man laid off in the middle of life [who] laced up his best shoes, straightened his tie, and walked out the door to face another long day of hard stares, hard interviews, and hard disappointments."

The Republican candidate's comments come as he prepares to accept his party's presidential nomination in Tampa, Florida this week, and Romney said people should "look to Tampa" for a brighter economic outlook.

"Two days from now, leaders from all across the country will gather to show Americans that help is on the way," Romney said. "For that father whose heart cries out for the dignity of work. For that child who needs a stable home. For that mid-career worker who just wants another chance, a better America can be more than just a hope. It can be our future. It must be our future."

Meanwhile, Romney said at a Saturday morning campaign event in Powell, Ohio that the Democratic convention - where Obama will accept his party's nomination for a second term - will be all talk and nothing more.

"He's going to have all sorts of marvelous things to say," Romney said of Obama. "I mean I can almost read his speech now. It'll just be, it'll be filled with promises, and tell people how wonderful things are.

"Of course they'll have to contrast that with what they know they're experiencing. But as he lays out all of these wonderful things he's going to do, people are going to stop and say but how are you going to do something different than last time," he said.

Obama focused on Medicare in his Saturday weekly address, the topic of Romney's first weekly podcast last week. Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky delivered the Republican address this week.

The American-People must stand-up and set the tone to unite the fractured Country...by respecting the different and demanding Politician's respect...Both parties must show more respect in Washington and debate all issues in the interest of "The Government by the People for the People" anything less is overstepping their mandate....

Nothing to worry about. Bernanke can print more money and give banks zero % interest rates.

Mitch McConnell has made it clear his only goal is to see Obama removed – not one mention of trying to create jobs, or improve the operation of government. These guys have you bent all over backwards. The worse part is they are going to hurt the job creators in the long run if they had their way. The have already hurt the job creators in the long run actually. It's time our government got back to work and funded – look sides need to work together to improve government efficiency and effectiveness, not tearing it down. Government is necessary, even in a capitalist system like ours.

"Let Detroit go bankrupt" explains how Romney would lead if he wins in November. Romney will let everyone fend for himself. The rich will get whatever they want. Everyone else gets the scraps. Energy independence? Romney wants to drill, baby, drill– in Iran. Repeal and Replace? Yes, he will replace Obamacare with Nobodycare. Everyone gets his own insurance. People who can't afford insurance? They will still have their guns and religion. The self-help Second Amendment solution is always available.

In the NY Times, on May29, 2012, Romney addressed reporters questions about his agreement to Trump using the birther remark at the fundraiser in Las Vegas. He replied he may not agree with his supporters, and his supporters may not alway agree with him, but that he needed 50.1% support and he was willing to take the support of good people. 3 months later, the statement he repudiated is used by Romney himself as he takes jabs at the birther conspiracy in Michigan. Etch a sketch Romney. What will he do with the Middle Class, three months after he takes office, if that comes to fruition. Or his stand on abortion and "forcible rape" redefined by Ryan and Akin in the HR3 bill to approve federal funding exceptions for abortion. Also, why aren't we equally 'insulted", "outraged', and willingness to express that Ryan needs to reeducate his view on rape. Rape is rape. But in thew H.R.3 bill Ryan and Akin, redefined terms for rape that would be acceptable for federal funding in abortion.

    I don't understand how?

To me how tax cutting with increasing Defence expense, removing financial regulation will improve economy?
This is the same trickle down economics that was tried under George Bush II – brought us from surplus to deficit.
George Bush decrease taxes, Increase Defence spending went to unnecessary war.
There was talk of attacking Iran at end of Bush term.
I will not be surprised you will also start talking about war as you want to keep defence spending high.

Actually, I would say if we make health care as universal healthcare – like medicare and no private insurance so companies don't have to worry about it and it is a tax to the people in for of VAT or income tax. That will reduce the burden on private industry.
    Or
Remove healthcare completely – no private insurance for pre-existing conditions – just insurance accidental and unforeseen health issues. No Charity donation allowed to hospitals as it reduces tax dollars. Everybody pays from pocket for the medical treatments. Hospitals have right to refuse treatment of a patient who don't have money. Otherwise taxpayers are paying for it. Also, allow people to have right to die incase they are not able to pay for their medical condition and they don't want to become burden to children and society. Also, allow abortion for the women who doesn't have mean to support due to economical issues.

Is that the same help he gave to MA as Governor? Nothing happened then and he has not explained how he will do that if elected president. Words are very cheap, actions cost a lot of money.

We know that President Obama is fighting for the middle class and that Romney wants his taxes at 0%. That's what we know.

Massachusetts under Romney went from 37th to 47th in job creation - in 2 years. We certainly don't need 4 years of HIM.

Vote dem or lose your freedoms to choose a way of life for yourself. He and the republicans want to control every religion, every woman's uterus, every old person's LACK of healthcare under the republicans.

Mittens sure led the way when he was Governor of MASS: all the way down to 47th in job creation. Yep, that's 'leadership', Mittens. I notice he ran from re-election, as his positives were in the mid 30% tile.

Mitt Romney, ready to lead the middle class in a race to the bottom..on day one!

Mitts plans will drive unemployment up. Drastic spending cuts will mean less consumer spending thus meaning more layoffs, unless Mitt has some agreement with all these businesses that told him we will hire as soon as you take office; other wise more rhetoric and zero specifics.

    Mitts already promised:

12 million jobs in 4 years. What kind of jobs are they? How much do they pay? What industries? Jobs with health care benefits?

Energy independence by 2020. Just drill more.......no guarantee oil stays here since it's a free market. can't have government telling oil companies where they have to sell their oil.

    Cheaper gas....see above.

Repeal ACA on day one. This is already one he will never accomplish.

Lower taxes on the wealthy but not give us details on what tax deductions he will end. Increased the defense budget. Cut spending....again won't say what and balance the budget....but won't say when.

The guy is a flim flam artist. Go ahead and vote for him and be ready for a quicker economic slow down.

    Obama isn't perfect but he:

    Averted a full on depression.
Turned negative GDP into positive GDP
Turned 800,000 jobs lost a month into over 2 years of continuous job growth.
Gave the orders to take out Bin Laden
    Helped saved GM
    Repealed DADT

There are many more but Obama has kept this country from going off a cliff despite the concentrated efforts of Republicans to make him fail. Republicans cannot deny this. They are on record.

Obama's policies are not radical, in fact he has taken some Republican principles but the Republicans in their hatred of Obama have moved to the extreme right.

So Mitt is going to create enough jobs all by himself. Oh, whats that? He's going to make the economic environment more friendly for his wealthy friends to come in and rape the environment and do away with pesky regulations that protect employees and lower taxes even more so we can fund a war with Iran by borrowing from who knows? Sounds like Bush to me and it did not work.

In 2010, the GOP ran on "jobs, jobs, jobs" what we actually got was mysogynistic anti-abortion and anti-birth conrol laws. From what Mr Romney and particularly Mr. Ryan have show is they "see jobs" in anti-abortion laws only.

►Romney promises better leadership on employment◄
To an audience of his peers that gives him plenty of enjoyment
Romney sold his soul to the far-Right and when he speak it's hard to believe
That he cares about EVERYONE instead of only those that has his soul up their sleeves

Then Romney picks a number 2 that is just as bad
More far-Right than he wants to be and it's really sad
because both of them NOW are trying very hard
to convince ALL of America that they have them in their hearts

    And it’s just not there!!
