Romney promises better leadership on employment

(CNN) - In his weekly podcast, Mitt Romney called out President Barack Obama for weak leadership on the economy, and said that under his administration, "help is on the way."

"Anxiety has never been higher," Romney said in the remarks, noting that unemployment increased in 44 states in the latest week reported. "Another new report out of Washington warns that higher unemployment and a double-dip recession will be a reality next year unless immediate steps are taken to avert what they're calling a 'fiscal cliff.' Seasonally adjusted numbers from the Department of Labor showed 372,000 new unemployment claims for the week ending August 18, which was an increase from 368,000 the previous week.

Romney noted the individuals behind those numbers, such as parents, families, and a "man laid off in the middle of life [who] laced up his best shoes, straightened his tie, and walked out the door to face another long day of hard stares, hard interviews, and hard disappointments."

The Republican candidate's comments come as he prepares to accept his party's presidential nomination in Tampa, Florida this week, and Romney said people should "look to Tampa" for a brighter economic outlook.

"Two days from now, leaders from all across the country will gather to show Americans that help is on the way," Romney said. "For that father whose heart cries out for the dignity of work. For that child who needs a stable home. For that mid-career worker who just wants another chance, a better America can be more than just a hope. It can be our future. It must be our future."

Meanwhile, Romney said at a Saturday morning campaign event in Powell, Ohio that the Democratic convention - where Obama will accept his party's nomination for a second term - will be all talk and nothing more.

"He's going to have all sorts of marvelous things to say," Romney said of Obama. "I mean I can almost read his speech now. It'll just be, it'll be filled with promises, and tell people how wonderful things are.

"Of course they'll have to contrast that with what they know they're experiencing. But as he lays out all of these wonderful things he's going to do, people are going to stop and say but how are you going to do something different than last time," he said.

Obama focused on Medicare in his Saturday weekly address, the topic of Romney's first weekly podcast last week. Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky delivered the Republican address this week.

Mittens is an embarrassment to white people. He has been wrong on Detroit, TARP, the stimulus, immigration, women's rights, the environment, Libya, Iraq, Syria, Russia, bin Laden, taxes, government bailouts, the London Olympics, workers, the middle class, veterans, seniors, medicare, medicaid, social security, foreign investments, his $100 million IRA, and clean energy.

Mittens triples down on his 'pants on fire' accusations, and it seems that even real media is afraid that if they say anything that would correct him, for fear they won't get their share of the $200 billion in negative ads from the Kochs, Rove, Ricketts, and Murdoch.

When a governor outsources government jobs in MA to India, they have a credibility problem on job creation.

How can you provide better leadership without telling us what you would do and how you would do it. Good leadership also involves transparency and accountability which Romney has none of. He is a phony that will say anything to get elected. I feel sorry for the people who trust this guy. He has constantly beat his chest as a great American while he stashes his money in foreign banks to evade taxes. We know better.

With all the money Mittens has saved in tax evasion, you would think he could hire a minority to travel with him so he would look normal.

With Mittens' birther joke, he has solidified his base, 10% of the GOP. If 10% of the US are also birthers, that means there are over 30 million crazy people out running around.

And this is the positive message of a man with confidence and a better plan. Along with his education ( Harvard MBA ), Mitt Romney has a wealth of real world experience that gives him an expert knowledge of how the economy works from both the public and private sectors. He is the guy capable of doing what is needed. He has a strong record of success and knows how to solve problems and make businesses and governments run effectively. That is exactly what the nation needs now. We need our federal government to be effective for the nation, to help deliver that elusive economic recovery and to make American businesses leaders in their industries again, growing and providing jobs and economic support that is needed to put the nation back on track for a strong future instead of the future of overwhelming debt that we are currently headed for.

Mitt Romney promises better leadership on employment without any concrete details, the Romney administration's plan is to repeal healthcare legislation, that can only be done via Congress and Mitt Romney's plan for better leadership is repealing healthcare legislation and that is supposed to create at least 12 million jobs, if that's the plan then the economy is as doomed as it was at 2007 due to economic policies of deregulation and other policies of the Bush Administration.

Romney believes wholeheartedly of Reagans trickle down your neck economy, its the republicans stance every 4 years, like it or not.If you cut taxes on the wealthy than every one benefits, but they've been proven wrong before, but they're republicans, what do you expect.Wealthy, like Romney put people to work if they get wealthier, its just not in this country that's all because most wealthy like Romney have corporations, companies in foriegn countries,Bill Gates Apple,Phil Knight of Nike and others its proven and fact. They paid substandard pay, have no healthcare,no other benefits,no labor laws, safety rules ,just a job to get them somewhat around poverty, not much better but its a start. So don't go off and blab to me about being a good commander,Romney did do something right, rob and pillage corporations nationwide and stole employees of these corporations their jobs, healthcare, pensions, anything of value before going on to their next conquest monetarily, you want that for president and you say you're intelligent, not in my book, idiots!!!

Romney selected Ryan in large part to bolster support from the GOP's conservative base, but also for his alleged fiscal savvy, as Mr. Ryan is regarded as the architect of the GOP's master budget plan. So let's take a look at their shared economic philosophy:

Fiscal conservatives such as Romney and Ryan are primarily interested in two outcomes:
    1) Increasing the income divide between the wealthiest Americans and the rest of society
    2) Increasing profit margins for corporations via lowered taxes and minimized environmental and workplace regulations

Reducing unemployment is a secondary issue - if said corporations opt to use their increased profits to hire additional employees, that's their prerogative.

Alas, historical evidence overwhelming demonstrates that increased corporate profits do not translate into increased hiring - increased demand for goods and services does.
And, of course, increased demand requires increased purchasing power by that subset of society which does the majority of the purchasing, i.e., the middle class.

And yet the budget plan championed by Romney and Ryan is designed to shift the federal tax burden further away from the ultra-wealthy toward the middle class. Go figure.

  21. Say No to Willard Romney Hood and Personhood Ann Ryand

Here's what we know about Willard's employment history. 47th in the nation (down 10 slots from 37th) when he was governor of MA. We know that he was a pioneer of outsourcing and offshoring both at Bain and as governor of MA. He'll lead jobs right out of the US to China and India. No thanks.

There's nothing in the "Paul Ryan Budget Plan" about jobs, it's about getting rid of Social Security/Medicare and less taxes for the rich otherwise Ryan would not be on the ticket as VP. Romney needs to stop lying and tell the truth.

ok Mitt good luck with having a congress at a 10% approval rating pass any bills you want done. And if by chance the Dems keep the Senate and somehow get the House as well I see 4 years of payback gridlock on the way.

You mean that Romney is going to tell more lies !!!! That is the only message Romney and Ryan do well . The European situation and the world economic problems are the main cause of unemployment – Bush and his other GOP did not help the situation when they were in power , in fact they left power leaving more problems than there were in the beginning. Now you have Romney and his GOP promising something that will not happen. Romney's message is the same as Bush gave out so think about it people !!!!!

It is always easy to promise something when you are not in power, the hardest thing to do is to carry it out when you are in power !!!! Looking back at what Romney has accomplished – I would not hold my breath !!!!! America's economic situation is far, far better now than when the Republicans left office.
