New Romney ad continues Medicare barrage on Obama

(CNN) - A television advertisement released by Mitt Romney's presidential campaign on the eve of the GOP convention is the fifth in the past two weeks focused on Medicare, the health care entitlement program for seniors.

President Barack Obama and Romney have sparred over their plans for the program in a series of ads - primarily from the Republican challenger - and on the campaign trail.

Like the other spots, this ad includes a claim that, "As president, Barack Obama cut $700 billion from Medicare to pay for Obamacare."

The claim cites a report from the Congressional Budget Office that shows repeal of the president's health care law would mean an additional $716 billion in spending on the program.

Romney and other Republicans have argued that the health reform law therefore cut $716 billion from Medicare.

The figure is estimated savings in payments to providers over the next decade - a reduction in the program's estimated growth.

After a previous Romney ad raised the claim, an Obama campaign spokeswoman said the president "achieved $716 billion in savings by cracking down on fraud and needless payments to insurance companies."

Romney's new ad also uses video and sound of Obama on the campaign trail in 2008.

"Senator McCain would pay for part of his plan by making drastic cuts in Medicare - $882 billion worth," Obama is seen saying.

After the ad's narrator and on-screen text levels the $716 billion claim, Obama is seen continuing his remarks at the 2008 campaign event.

"It ain't right," he says.

The Romney campaign did not say in which markets the 30 second ad would run nor how much the campaign was spending on it.

/vice president biden plans.what the core
middle-class families shall be looking at is
who's plan put more money and benifits in
their pockets.if your income is $1.00-$250,000 dallors do the math.income tax time don't lie.when families getting back huge income tax checks.millions of large core middle class families with 4-8 family
members are getting back on average $4800 -$11,500 or more depending on many combination tax they file.I truely don't see how mitt/Ryan plans help middle-class families get back large tax refunds each year.if you have a large family and you love too eat really good with your tax returns or pay off bills in all 50 states plus American territorys that pay taxes in the American mainland system millions of middle-class families will 10 out 10 vote for president obama

Romney & Co. are operating on the premise that old serfs who can still work are experienced and valuable – once they become to weak, they are only consumers of the wealth rightly belonging to "his kind of people." Ryan & Co. are just idiots sycophants.

R&R want to raise the Medicare age to 67. They want to give you vouchers worth 6,000. It will cost seniors about 6400.00 a year. They want to Repeal Obamacare which we are getting great benefits from, like pre-existing conditions, the prescription drug program savings, closing the doughnut hole, free wellness programs with no co-pays, free cancer screenings, pap smears, breast exams. Peace of mind that your kids will not be saddled with the cost of your healthcare, or you or your spouse, you won't have to hunt for insurance when you are 68 or 69 when Medicare is no more, because insurance companies will pick and choose the healthy ones over the sick ones and you will not be able to find insurance, and this will kill Medicare as we know it. It will all be privatized with no regulations on the insurance companies. Please think and vote accordingly. We can tweak Medicare to fix it, but we can't if it is gone completely. Think of your kids someday. The big corporations are thinking of their pockets. Only you know what you will do in that booth. Think.

    Reduced Health Care For Retirees

Ryan would raise the age of Medicare eligibility from 65 to 67. If the Affordable Care Act was repealed, something Romney has pledged, that means many 65- and 66-year-olds would be left uninsured, the CBPP reports.

It would be far more interesting to have a sense check/opinion on the accuracy on the details behind the candidates' track records and plans for Medicare. Perhaps that would have taken more effort to write than a report that summarizes the potential contents of a partisan advert, that might run, somewhere. IMHO there's a missed opportunity to write a more incisive report on the presidential race.

Mittens plan is to keep medicare solvent by removing $700 billion and giving that in tax cuts to himself and the wealthy, cut $500 billion from medicaid to hurt the poor, and shorten the life of medicare to 4 years. He has be wrong on everything, so how did he get rich?

Mittens has been wrong on medicare, social security, teachers, firemen, police, Detroit, immigration, women' rights, personhood, trickle down economics, taxes, money laundering, jobs outsourcing, Libya, Iraq, Russia, China, the London Olympics, foreign accounts, energy policy, environmental safety, constitutional rights, and ACA. How many times does this claim need to be proven wrong before Romney stops using it? Obama did not cut $716 billion from Medicare. If Obama's economic record is so bad then why use lies against him?

It is starting to make sense why McCain thought Sarah Palin was a better choice for VP over Romney, I clearly understand now why McCain would not gamble with Romney on his ticket.

►New Romney ad continues Medicare barrage on Obama◄
CNN – You know these ads are NOT TRUE but yet, you keep giving Romney a free platform for a LIE! Why don't you put a big FACT CHECK following the heading that states NOT TRUE like you ran on President Obama? Big words like, FACT CHECK: NOT TRUE allows the readers to know, especially the ones who do not comprehend what they are reading, the FACTS upfront!!??

He is incapable of to tell the truth. I am sure he has under estimated the thinking capacity of the voters. But he can be wrong because there are only 12% who can be pursued by this kinds of lies those also think the US congress it doing fine other than that I doubt.

R/R should sprint away from this issue as ryans plan is to turn medicare into an historic ponzi scheme. This is not tax$, nor is it his$, it is your$. We have all reluctantly paid into this system, while planning our retirements around it. Ryans plan would fix nothing as he wants to literally take from the poor to give even more to the rich so called 'job creators'. This simply is not a viable economic theory, it is a scheme to pay back the 'job creators' that put him in office. Amazing that the gop can actually find someone worse than obama.

"tell me lies, tell me sweet little lies" I'll be glad when the president can confront Romney face to face on these issues. Sometimes it's hard to look a person in the eye and lie on them..unless of course you're a professional liar.

Read my lips! Build on the success of medicare. Do not destroy medicare or cause it harm? Who will make sure that all Americans have access to the same healthcare as members of Congress? Who will continue to separate church and state without damaging either one?

As usual no respect for our president. I can honestly see a senior voting against Obama just because of his skin color and god knows they are struggling and could use obamacare. I never understood how someone could hate some one because the color of their skin.
