On the Trail: Monday, August 27

(CNN) – As the Republican National Convention begins to get underway, Mitt Romney and President Barack Obama have relatively quiet days on the campaign trail Monday.

Romney spends Monday at his home in Belmont, Massachusetts, while Obama and Vice President Joe Biden attend meetings at the White House.

The political scene in Tampa, Florida, however, is bustling as the RNC prepares to kick off its main events on Tuesday. See more details after the jump.

9:00 a.m. ET - Sen. Rob Portman and Craig Romney address the Ohio Delegation Breakfast in Tampa.

10 a.m. ET – Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich holds "Newt U: We Can Do Better–Jobs, Growth and Protecting Medicare" session in Tampa.

12:20 p.m. ET – Rep. Paul Ryan, Romney's running mate, attends a send-off rally in Janesville, Wisconsin.

2 p.m. ET – RNC Chairman Reince Priebus gavels in the 2012 Republican National Convention.

9 p.m. ET - American Conservative Union Chairman Al Cardenas, former RNC Chairman Ed Gillespie, Sen. Marco Rubio, former Gov. Jeb Bush, Puerto Rico Gov. Luis Fortuño, New Mexico Gov. Susana Martinez and Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval attend ACU and Future Majority Project's Nuestra Noche: Midnight in Ybor in Tampa.
