Paul loyalists say 'we can do better'

Tampa, Florida (CNN) - A small but enthusiastic group of Ron Paul supporters Monday gave an early indication of the presence they hope to have at this week's Republican convention.

After the gavel closed a shortened session Monday afternoon, two dozen supporters of the Texas congressman congregated under a large sign on the convention floor reading "We can do better."

While the banner, hung by convention organizers, was a criticism of President Barack Obama, the Paul supporters were tweaking the message.

Standing below it, the crew held their own signs from the former 2012 presidential candidate's failed bid, suggesting a tweak at the GOP establishment: that the party would be better off with Paul than Mitt Romney as its presidential nominee.

One convention official told CNN that organizers are not overly concerned about disruptions from Paul's loyal band, noting that the group, which chanted briefly by the sign, was dwarfed by the thousands of Romney supporters who will fill the hall this week. The RNC announced plans to run a video tribute to Paul at the convention.

Besides, the official asked, what would a political convention be without at least some dissent.

We certainly could have done better if the GOP/Teatrolls weren't such a massive cancer of infantile, ideological obstruction and setting everything up to fail just so they can say 'see, look, gov't is teh brokens!"

GOP AGENDA: GOV'T IS BROKEN..SEE...WE BROKE IT.

I think it's wonderful that Ron Paul supporters feel they can express their support for him at the convention, they can stand their ground, unlike Hillary Clinton who at the Democratic convention had to support Obama and her supporters were not able to support her at the convention but had to move their support to Obama.

If you're going to be a little different, we might as well stay with what we have instead of taking a risk with what may be the Etch A Sketch candidate of the future

what Washington insiders eventually work for lobby firms daily promoting powerful interests is now a given. We the People that once ran government, maybe a hundred years ago, has become “Them” the People.

They're right, the GOP could do a whole lot better, but they chose the draft dodging, tax evading, flip flopping liar with no foreign policy experience.

Granted, there are times that I have not agreed with everything Ron Paul has stated over the years....
However, I highly commend Ron Paul and his supporters, for standing for something besides political pandering. I strongly believe that the future of this country lies with this group. These are people that are willing to embrace good fiscal policies, less wars, and more personal freedoms for ALL Americans.
Thank you, Ron Paul, for keeping the hope and dream alive for us Independent/Libertarian voters.
    Thank you.

you mean what would a convention be without cheating? Ron Pauls support from our troops and We the people are the ones who crush the neo con elite support of the 1%! Ron Pauls rallies across the nation have slaughtered Romney in numbers but CNN hasn't reported that now have they?

Perhaps you will be willing to pick up the $$$$$$ tab for the next "War on Drugs"? :)
BTW, Ron Paul is correct. The war on drugs is a sham. An expensive one at that.

To bad is wasn't all the way Extreme Right like the GOP wouldv'e wanted. He has a lot more to say than Romney/Ryan. Don't think he would stoop to all the LIES like the Romney either. It's ashame that doing better is not what the GOP is about this election...

They are wasting their time, and Ron Paul let them down, he should have run as a libertarian rather than try to reform the GOP. He had his chance to begin a revolution towards reforming Washington and light the flame for a solid third party, it's our only salvation. Unfortunately, Ron Paul will not be the "Che" of this revolution.

It started during the Republican primary debates. When none of the GOP candidates came to the defense of the soldier. As a vet that told me not one of them would be there for the troops. As I've watched and listened to Mitt's words and his silences and delayed responses. I have come to the conclusion that he would be a weak president that would hand the reins of the White House over to extremists. Boehner tried that in the House and jut look at what a disaster that turned out to be. No, no time for the extremist to go.

hey Paul supporters, you're fiscal hawks. You have a choice, i.e. Obama or Romney.

Romney is the closest you'll get to your own ideas.

Yes...you can do better. Next time pick someone wiho isn't afraid to show his or her tax returns. Add in a VP running mate who won't dismantle Medicare and Social Security.

You talk about tax returns. Actually, I expect the main theme of the Democratic Convention will be about tax returns. Obama and Biden lose on all of the real issues the American voter is concerned about. Republicans will talk about the economy, jobs, national debt and saving healthcare. And Democrats will look petty in comparison.
