Paul loyalists say 'we can do better'

Tampa, Florida (CNN) - A small but enthusiastic group of Ron Paul supporters Monday gave an early indication of the presence they hope to have at this week's Republican convention.

After the gavel closed a shortened session Monday afternoon, two dozen supporters of the Texas congressman congregated under a large sign on the convention floor reading "We can do better."

While the banner, hung by convention organizers, was a criticism of President Barack Obama, the Paul supporters were tweaking the message.

Standing below it, the crew held their own signs from the former 2012 presidential candidate's failed bid, suggesting a tweak at the GOP establishment: that the party would be better off with Paul than Mitt Romney as its presidential nominee.

One convention official told CNN that organizers are not overly concerned about disruptions from Paul's loyal band, noting that the group, which chanted briefly by the sign, was dwarfed by the thousands of Romney supporters who will fill the hall this week. The RNC announced plans to run a video tribute to Paul at the convention.

Besides, the official asked, what would a political convention be without at least some dissent.

I think Ron Paul has some interesting ideas, however, he loses me when it comes to defense, in a perfect world his ideas might work but as we all know this is not a perfect world and we need to remain ever vigilant and maintain a strong military presence. And I am sorry to say there is no way he can win, he can only take votes away from Romney, and in the current situation that is not a good idea – just my opinion

Ron Paul is an idealist that doesn't realize that he is living in an non-ideal world. It would be nice if everyone was responsible, but not everyone plays nice and by the same set of rules. This is why government is there; to make the playing field as level as possible.

Ron Paul woke me up. And I'm Canadian. The man is a legend and the American people will get what they deserve. A big bank and special interest run country. That's who funds Romney and Obama and thats where their loyalties lie. Not with YOU! More Americans need to wake up.

Ron Paul is the truth. His followers are growing by the days. Revolution and TRUE CHANGE will come sooner or later.

Ron Paul has a few good ideas, but fails miserably when it comes to International Relations (a/k/a Foreign Affairs). We live in a Global Community whether one likes it or not. As such, the POTUS would have to be ready to deal with an international crisis as soon as it arises. Ron Paul is not that type of person. Proof? Look at his voting record.

Obama 2012, another democrat 2016 and again in 2020 and so on forever. I'll never cast my vote for the party of the rich, by the rich, for the rich. Goodbye GOP and good riddance.

I'm sorry for being so crass....but you know I go through and read these comments and something is painfully clear...The division between Obama supports and Romney supporters isn't world views, isn't necessarily social class, isn't race or all those other things you might assume are easily applicable. The defiing attribute seems to be IQ level/and how well informed people are. (There was even a collegiate study concerning FOX news watchers that supports this. FOX News watchers were the worst informed Americans, google it.)

Seems as if Romney supporters just accept what Rush Limbaugh, Romney, FOX news, etc.. say as fact. And when someone begins to question what they believe to be truth they just point fingers and say "evil doers". It's sad really, because most of the people that are defending and supporting Romney are the same ones that he will rape and pilfer if he ever got elected. It's kinda like a dog wagging his tail and licking his veterinarian right before he is euthanized. There is nothing more painful than listening to the rants of those with really strong opinions based on very limited information/facts.

Please Romney supporters, stop trusting everything you hear. Do you research, educate yourself before you vote.

Those organizers are on a healthy mix of drugs and wishful thinking. Ron Paul brought 10,000+ people to Tampa with him, compare that to an expected convention attendance of 50,000. If you don't think 1/5 or even 1/6 is enough to cause a MASSIVE disruption, you simply know NOTHING about social organizing. Plus the Paul people have demonstrated prowess at using other internal divisions within the GOP to their benefit – all those are not Romney supporters, they are the rest of the Republican Party reluctantly getting behind Romney, and a passionate minority that refuses to do so can cause all kinds of problems. Sparks WILL fly.

Ron Paul is not a realistic candidate. His vision of America would never work because it basically relies on the fact that people will do the right. Deregulation? Of course the bankers and corporations won't take advantage of that? Charity hospitals? Good luck getting the even wealthier to donate any of their hard earned tax free cash. Dissolving the EPA? He's like Batman... What this country may need someday but not what they deserve.

why would they not treat them like univited guests. They are crashing the party and saying that Ron Paul would be better than the candidate. That is not helping the GOP cause. The ideas Paul presents are good and that helps and his supporters certainly sustain him. Crashing the party will not win any respect from anyone except the Obama supporters

I will not vote for a Scoundrel and a Thief just because he is a Republican, my vote will go to Obama for the same reason it did last election. The Republican that was anointed by the Republican National committee scares the crap out of me.

If the primaries would have been fair and the media gave Ron Paul as much time as they did the others this would be a much different Republican Convention and I would have gladly returned to the party that I followed for 35 years. But if Thieves and Warmongers is all you have to offer, I will stick with the Democrats.

I agree with very little of what Ron Paul says but at least he has the integrity to mean what he says.I don 't know what any of the other Republicans believe. One minute it's this and the next minute it's that. My favorite Republican answer is "we should leave that up to the states to decide".They use that one when they want to keep you in the dark as to where they stand on an issue, which is most of the time.

Ron Paul supporters hate hate hate war but they are willing to attend a war monger GOP convention. Have they forgotten Mitts remarks about Russia being our number one nemesis and suggesting we start war with Iran. It wasnt that long ago America was rooting for Iranian citizens as they tried to stand up to their corrupt government but Mitt wants all negotiations shut down. Europe will no longer be our closest alli if mitt is elected...he has already insulted them and isreal....Bafoon Mitt

No. No, you can't do better. What you've been able to do up to this point – basically, nothing – is the very best you will ever be able to do. A tiny gaggle of pathological fringers has reached their zenith – in dead last place.

Ron Paul is a nutjob. His son is a bigger one. Mittens is dumbstruck at how he managed to con his way to the nomination in 2012. Doesn't the GOP worry that the only candidate they could come up with in 2012, was a reject from the 2008 campaign? It tells you something about the RNC-it is afraid to bring in new blood. Obama will walk in the election-it won't even be close. Heck, he is dead even/ahead after the onslaught from the GOP the last 4years and a very tough economy. The American people will stick with Obama and Mittens will go back and run a lemonade stand-along with his 5 strapping, draft dodging sons.

Sorry all of you Paul Bots but Romney is paying you lip service in return for your vote. Paul became irrelavent months ago. GOP supporters will pretend to care about your views for the sake of party unity. I guess you can always vote for Gary Johnson which would help the Democrats.
