Tampa, Florida (CNN) - As the formal nomination of Mitt Romney gets underway at the Republican convention, a new survey indicates that a minority in the GOP would like to see someone else as their party's presidential nominee.
According to a CNN/ORC International poll released Tuesday as the roll call at the convention was about to begin, nearly seven in ten Republicans say that the former Massachusetts governor should be the Republican nominee, with three in ten saying they would rather see their party choose someone else at the top of the ticket.

"Historically, that figure is not bad. In mid-August, 2008, more than four in ten Republicans said they would prefer someone other than John McCain as the Republican nominee. Thirty-seven percent of Democrats said in August, 2008, that they would prefer Hillary Clinton as their party's nominee," says CNN Polling Director Keating Holland.
Four years later, only 17% of Democrats say they would prefer someone other than President Barack Obama as their party's standard-bearer.
The CNN poll was conducted August 22-23 by ORC International, with 473 registered voters who describe themselves as Republicans or independents who lean Republican, and 404 registered voters who describe themselves as Democrats or independents who lean Democratic, questioned by telephone. The survey's sampling error is plus or minus five percentage points.

Now the pundits have something to talk about to fill in the dead air time.
The show is not over. Still waiting to see if Trump shows up, where is Palin? Will Bachmann come to say a few words?
Anything can happen, unity I do not think is one of the options.
Willard Capone is no "standard bearer" by any means. Is father on the other hand was. Willard will NOT diminish the standards of running for the highest office in the land by not releasing more taxes when 65% of ALL Americans want him to release more taxes. There is no getting around this issue!!!
Oh, no, no! Keep Mitt and Paul. They freak me out, but hey, they're better than Obama, right. NOT!
Earlier this month, Mitt Romney was welcomed for a campaign event at the Century Mine in Beallsville, Ohio, by hundreds of coal workers and their families. Now many of the mine's workers are saying they were forced to give up a day-worth of pay to attend the event, and they feared they might be fired if they didn’t, according to local news radio WWVA
at least at the gop convention, there will not be muslim exteremists leading prayer.at least lets hope not.
lol, cnn is scared of the paul supporters. no one polled 18-34 (a majority of them).

Obama has a DROP of 37 percentage points in Democrats that are excited to vote for him in 2012 versus 2008.
Familiarity and Failure breeds voters that won't turn out to vote. Obama is doomed.
The seniors will need to commit suicide when their health care dollars run out. That's the GOP way!

How's that cover-narrative for GOP/Teatroll minority voter suppression working out for ya?
Truth the article above reads:

Oh please, the bully bishop hides behind his wife's skirt. The only ones voting for him will be the super rich (1%) and the fools who are at the convention.
This guy's whole family are made of plastic.

Well that's odd Mr. Truth Hurts. I am not familiar with Romney and Ryan and I already have contempt for them. Their lack of specifics just scares me a lot more. You may find out that Obama isn't so bad if you vote for R/R and then realize that their policies are not going to help you either.
>The GOP Voucher Plan will include a "Legalize Euthanasia" clause and a free gun to commit suicide
>The seniors will need to commit suicide when their health care dollars run out
And the $716 BILLION Obama STOLE from Medicare to pay for Obamacare will move up that date considerably.
FACT: OBAMA is the ONLY U.S. President to CUT Medicare. Almost a TRILLION dollars over ten years. I'm sure all those illegals will appreciate the free government healthcare they get from all that money.
Once again an analasys written by idiots for ididots
I wonder if CNN will report on the many independents and democrats that are leaving Obama behind.
"And the $716 BILLION Obama STOLE from Medicare to pay for Obamacare will move up that date considerably."
Actually, since it's savings and not "cuts," CBO said that these savings extend the life of Medicare by at least 8 years. You've got it completely, utterly, absolutely and 100% backwards and either know it, which makes you a big fat poopypants liar, or don't know it, which makes you pathetic. Choose.
President Obama is like the boy with his finger in the dike. When he leaves office, whether its 2012 or 2016, all hell will break loose. Republicans can not govern the cultural mix that is America today.
>Dave - I wonder if CNN will report on the many independents and democrats that are leaving Obama behind.
Of course not. They are in the bag for Obama. They will paint a false picture of Obama inevitability. And then wonder what the heck happened when Romney steam rolls him in November. Of course, Democrats will claim dead and illegal voter suppression and start rioting in the streets claiming the election was stolen. It wouldn't be totally unexpected to see Obama declare marshall law and take control of the country. He never did believe in the rule of law.
"FACT: OBAMA is the ONLY U.S. President to CUT Medicare."
Not fact. It's not cuts, so the mischaracterization ruins your attempt to claim that you made a factual statement. When you start from a faulty premise, the rest breaks down. Sadly for you, your desperation shines like a gaudy neon sign. Implementing measures to save money by reducing fraud and to reduce overpayments and over-subsidization of hospitals...that's not "cuts" and it improves the health, efficiency and efficacy of the system. Grow the frig up.
Sniffit

====================================================================================
Ah yes, the "savings", just like the "doc fix" saves all that money right?! Oh yeah, they never saved a penny because they keep voting to ignore it and pay the money! Why?! Because cutting the money results in doctors refusing medicare patients, which is a denial of coverage.
Now the Democrat's want to play the same game but with hospitals! CBO says 25% will GO UNDER if the cuts are made! Sure the cuts will be made! And have seniors dying because they can't get into the few remaining hospitals???
BTW, can you please explain how "saving" money extends Medicare by eight years while at the same time the money is used to fund Obamacare??? Also, the CBO cannot not make a judgement on the insane assumptions the Democrats have provided them. That is the BIG flaw in their assessments. If the assumptions are bogus, like almost all of Obamacares were, the estimates are bogus, which is what we have already seen. (estimated cost under a trillion, now the cost is close to 3 TRILLION)
i love reading Sniffits comments. loool. always a pleasure reading your comments
thanks for putting some reality out there
Go, Iowa! Why are the convention secretaries not announcing the votes for Paul, even when the majority of the state goes for Paul???
Well, "party unity" might explain some of the craziness we are seeing around the Republican Party's adopted planks, and the attempt to move Mr. Romney and Mr. Ryan away from the more radical ones. It makes no sense (to me) that Priebus can say "these are the party's beliefs and these are Romney's beliefs and they are different". If they are different then what happens? Does the presumtive Presidents' beliefs and policies trump the Party's or vice versa? If these two elements aren't in alignment, which changes?
