Democrats in Tampa: What did Romney build?

Tampa, Florida (CNN) - Democrats wasted no time on Tuesday trying to undercut Republicans as they began their convention, attacking a key GOP message before party luminaries took the spotlight in Tampa.

Republicans aggressively pushed their convention theme, "We Built It," while Democrats sought to turn it back on Mitt Romney, who was affirmed as the nominee by a roll call of delegates in the first significant moments of the event.

Obama has never had to worry about a paycheck, never has had to hold down a job and fear to find himself in the unemployment line because Obama has never had the need to work like the rest of us. Obama came from a mom who made very good money working for banks and foundations with high positions and grandma was a banker, the Vice President of the Bank of Hawaii making great money, enjoying a good life. Obama grew up priviledged enjoying a beautiful, expensive private school, wearing preppy, fashionable clothes, playing sports and living in a beautiful neighborhood in Hawaii, traveling to exotic places and having a very pretty mother who always wore top, stylish clothing with matching sunglasses. Obama has no idea what it is to put your hands into work, has never been an employee waiting for Friday to cash his paycheck. Obama doesn't like small businesses because frankly they annoy him being that he never had the need to work in a small business. Obama is an elite kid from Hawaii.

I just watched religious fanatic Santorum lie about the work requirement for welfare. This same lie has given Romney a pants on fire rating. I am surprised that a catholic would lie just like a mormon.

I would say this is describing John Kerry who inherited 4 Trust accounts from his family, Forbes family, so he says he inherited the money but who knows if that is true.....and who knows where he and Teresa Heinz stash their millions but noone cared when Kerry ran for President because he was a Democrat, noone cracked any jokes on his money or made ugly accusations such as this ugly accusation of Romney....."A bank account in Switzerland, investments in Bermuda and the Caymans, and an inexplicably large IRA. That's what he built." At the end of the day it is just a distraction, a gimmick so people will forget that tomorrow they need to go stand in the unemployment line again and again and again and again because Obama can't get this economy going.

Tonight Santorum said the half the people are getting government assistance. That has to be the biggest lie ever told.

Isn't the term "We built it" exactly what Obama was saying? That "you" as an individual did not build the things in this country that enable ALL of US to strive? God these guys have serious message problems. Along with the Medicare lies, not releasing taxes, and not taking any questions.. seems to me the RNC has lost the trust of the people before even starting their convention. annnnd.. they still have yet to define the candidate they just nominated. Hey Mitt.. Obama bashing isn't a solution or a a platform to run a campaign on.

That question is a good one. My other question is about these people who claim "to have built something." Did they start with no education and self educate and build their own roads? I don't think so. The deny that there was any base on which they built their own things from.

That's pretty arrogant of the 1% and the GOP to say, "WE built that". NO...YOU did NOT. I built it. My successes were brought about because of my hard work and the people who supported me along the way. Rich Money-YOU did not build my success.

Car elevator and several mentions across USA other than that he didn't build anything. It is a fare question to ask. Of course, he only donated for Mormon Church.

Actually Santorum was right. Those people are the bankers who played a huge role in ruining country. Corporate welfare seems to be okay with the Republicans, but goodness forbid that an ordinary American needs help.

Wow......watching the RNC and the disconnect. The gall...........Santorum,Haley.........They all drip pure arrogance.

When you're Republican....you don't need a gov't grant or loan to start a business or anything.

You're not even born on 3rd base.

When you're republican life is perfect, you'll NEVER need help, and you're born halfway between 3rd and home.

I've been lucky in my life and see that life is not black and white. While I've put in hard work, doors have opened for me, and I had some luck and help along the way.

Memo to Republicans : Never look down on someone unless you're helping them up.

What did Obama build? Absolutely nothing, but he is trying to destroy the America that our founding fathers built.

Whatever Romney has built, he would prefer that people do not know about it, since he is not releasing his tax returns.

REAL worry is a mother 5 with either no husband or a husband working a blue collar job where he comes home so beat up he can barely stand.

A job where his back or feet hurt so bad he is in sheer exhaustion daily.

A job that pays enough that they can probably pay all the bills and then hold on by the skin of their teeth until the next pay day.

A mother who probably works AS WELL.

I'm sorry, but despite having MS, Cancer and 5 kids, I somehow doubt Ann Romney sat around the house with Mitt worrying till their hair turned gray about bills.

    Just saying.......

I have been a member of organized Labor for over 28yrs. and nikki haley is proud that her state builds everything non-union. low wages, no benefits, and no retirement with dignity. Just work until you drop, while the "buisness owner lines his pockets. been there seen that.

What's more scary is that you voted for a guy who has never had to clock in at a job. Wow, that is scary, he's running our country and he doesn't know what is like to be an employee. Sure, he had a part-time job as a junior attorney for 2 summers in a law firm and had a part-time job as a lecturer and I read he pretty much worked part-time as a community organizer and I think he worked for some weeks in the ice cream shop but that's it for his resume. Then of course he became a Senator and I remember reading he was never to be found, he was out somewhere. Yeah, it is scary this is the guy who is running our country.

And neither did Michelle and Barack Obama or did you forget of her high paying jobs and well he never worried about money since I'm sure he must had a very good trust accounts from grandma and mom, who's ever heard of bankers not investing their monies and buying properties. Sure Obama and his sister enjoy some good trust accounts.

You mean like Obama's grandma who was a very powerful banker in Hawaii??? Did you forget his grandma was the Vice President of the Bank of Hawaii and ran a very tight, strict ship????? And when the woman died she was given an incredible Memorial by the CEO of the Bank of Hawaii, it was even televised. Seriously, who are you kidding????

Tony, the IRS requires all Americans to save 7 years of tax returns. Romney released 7 years of tax returns. He should release more than that to satisy you and Obama? I don't think so.

Obama has. Ever even held a real job. All he's ever buying is a false image of himself as a prophet. Romney's worked, created jobs, and personally helped people in his community – hands on !

Obama's a poor, sick joke that isn't funny.

    Dave,
When did Romney release 7 years of his tax returns? Nobody noticed. Yes, he is not legally required to release his tax returns. He does not need to satisfy us. We also don't have to vote for him. He needs to earn our trust, and he won't get it if he refuses to release his tax returns, like every presidential candidate since Romney's father set the example in 1968. Romney can keep his returns private if he wants, but we will make sure he stays a private citizen and not in a position to decide tax polici

  25. Republicans; the "Not Intended to be Factually Accurate" Party

Romney would have you believe that he is an entreprenuer in the vein of Steve Jobs, Pierre Oydimyer, Elon Musk, etc. ahe is not. These guys ARE/WERE job creators because they thought up an innovative product/service, the designed it, they built it, shipped it, serviced it, etc. Mitt borrow other people`s money and conducted corporate raiding. He is not a capitalist as they are.
