Federal court rejects Texas redistricting plan

(CNN) - A three-judge federal court panel on Tuesday rejected a Texas redistricting plan and said it was "enacted with discriminatory intent."

"Texas has failed to show that any of the redistricting plans merits preclearance," which federal law requires before substantial changes are made to voting procedures in some states.

"We are also persuaded by the totality of the evidence that the plan was enacted with discriminatory intent," the court found.

"What is a "Black ability district"??...."

Quit while you're ahead, dude. And by "ahead" I mean "has clearly displayed complete and utter ignorance of the law, including the VRA, and the historical record regarding minority voting rights, all while tapdancing in clown shoes along the line between foolishly ignorant bigot and outright racist scum."

Given that is what counts as "ahead" for you, I'm pretty sure you don't want to hear my description of "behind" ...nor do I think CNN would let me use the language it requires, despite what I've slipped by the moderators in the past.

rs - Yes, and it isn't America when only white Republicans can run and vote.
ANYBODY can run. Guaranteed outcomes based on race is what the Democrats are all about. It is affirmative action but in the voting booth. So Obama and the Democrats TALK about one America but lie. Candidates need to appeal to ALL voters, not just the voters that share their skin color and districts shouldn't be created with skin color in mind. If you want a truly color blind society you have to start ignoring skin color, not using it like this.

"aren't you suposed to be experts at news reporting?"

The entire MSM has been colluding to bury the voter suppression efforts of the GOP/Teatrolls across the country since day 1. They don't want to touch contemporary racism with a ten foot pole because the accusation...nay, simply the objective acknowledgment that modern day racist voter suppression is what is occuring would potentially blow up in the network's face. The GOP/Teatrolls would flip out, populations that are unaware that this is what is happening to their voting rights ight flip out, and advertisers might flip out. How much money do you think CNN takes in from Crossroads? How do you think that effects their reporting and the insane effort that goes into selling people false equivalencies as if pretending everything is the same on both sides is the same as being 'fair and balanced." People need and deserve the truth. THE TRUTH IS WHAT IS FAIR AND BALANCED...fair and balanced doesn't come from suplpanting reality with false equivalence. The "news" isn't about the truth though. It's infotainment. It's ALL about carefully manufactured narratives that help perpetuate sensationalized stories in order to get people to tune in and help the network justify ad pricing.

Why aren't we guaranteeing Jewish districts? Why aren't we guaranteeing Chinese districts? Maybe some Korean and irish districts while we're at it? Muslims will need one too. Yes, it's the Democrats version of "One America". The party that CLAIMS diversity, yet uses every way possible to segregate and divide the American people.

And you wonder why Obama is the divisive way he is?? It is in the breeding of Democrats!

Your projection is admirable, albeit shrill, desperate and maknig you look extremely stupid. Give up the ghost dude. The evidence went so far as to have emails from GOPer/Teatroll state legislators in which they literally and explicitly discussed trying to make sure that hispanic population growth didn't change the election results that the GOP desires. It was despcable, inexcusable, goes against everything American democracy is supposed to stand for as an example to the world and can't be covered over by pretending that the VRA is discriminatory against white people.

This should also happen on these republicans and their voter supression changes in republican led states it didn't happen in the primaries,so why now, don't be so coy about it!!Republican governors and their minions are merely racist and pretty much are against anyone that stands in the republicans way, seniors, poor, minorities, disabled, the infirmed all for their idiotic agendas..These classes are considered not only a voting threat but are the ones that Democrates try to see care for, they need the compassion of others, something the republicans never learned to understand or cared for as well. But they're the born again Christians on the right that are so hypocritical, they most certainly don't practice what they preach, that's where seperation of church and state should step in,but it won't happen till more Democrates are elected as judges..

"And you wonder why Obama is the divisive way he is?? It is in the breeding of Democrats!"

Obama wasn't the one found to have abused the TX state gov't in order to disciminate against hispanic voters. What's hard for you to understand about this? Just to use numbers to illustrate the point: hispanic population grew by a factor of 90 but the GOP/Teatrolls drew the districts to try to make sure that the growth in hispanic voting influence over future election results was much smaller than would naturally occur as a result of the population growth, say, a factor of 30. THAT is discimination of the most blatant kind. For example, if the population growth is a factor of 90 and it was simply a state wide election, as opposed to district then, statistically speaking, the increase in hispanic voting influence over the election results would also be a factor of 90. What the GOP/Teatrolls did was take out a scalpel and carve districts that either (a) purposefully split up pockets of hispanic population in order to prevent them from all voting in the same district elections and (b) where feasible, bury pockets of hispanic population in a higher population of white conservative voters so that their voting influence would be negated. This was INTENTIONAL...i.e., explicitly and specifically designed to get these results. Nothing could be a more heinously racist abuse of our democracy.

truth hurts – " So now our country is supposed to be carved up into special districts to guarantee minorities are elected?"
Please look up the definition and (recent)history of "gerrymandering". State legislatures have been using it for years to either over- or under-represent specific voting blocks. The court objected to a plan that would result in districts that guaranteed that minorities would NOT be elected, which you should see as just as bad.

Truth- Your logic is faulty- As it is the Republicans denying the right to vote to specific populations (as they are), would it not dictate logically that the Republicans are the "dividers"? Maybe you should examine the GOP platform and their polling data. Do you think it accidental that the party that wants Hispanics to walk around and produce "papers" to prove their citizenship lag behind the President by 46 points? How about women? Maybe all those anti-birth control bills and anti-abortion bills are affecting the gap in approval for the GOP with women. Maybe because the GOP is attempting to limit voting times in Black working neighborhoods correlates to the 0% polling support for Mr. Romney.

OK, so let me get this straight.... This country went through massive turmoil in efforts to desegregate the country and now that that has been done, the Democrats want the courts and laws to guarantee the segregation of voters into districts guaranteeing outcomes based on race??? Like I said, this is affirmative action carried into the voting booths. It IS the definition of racism.

So what we have here is the Democrats PRACTICING racism in order to prevent it. And so the Balkanization of America begins.... The leftists didn't like that melting pot idea I guess. Their idea of a segregated and divided American is far better. Far easier to play their class and race warfare games I guess.
