Federal court rejects Texas redistricting plan

(CNN) - A three-judge federal court panel on Tuesday rejected a Texas redistricting plan and said it was "enacted with discriminatory intent."

"Texas has failed to show that any of the redistricting plans merits preclearance," which federal law requires before substantial changes are made to voting procedures in some states.

"We are also persuaded by the totality of the evidence that the plan was enacted with discriminatory intent," the court found.

Kudos to the court. "Discriminatory intent" is the basis of all of these voter laws. It's the modern day poll tax just as AG Holder said it was.

  5. Republicans; the "Not Intended to be Factually Accurate" Party

Whether its voter suppresion or rigging election districts, the GOP seems often to be cheating. It`s not the year 2000 again, is it?

"[The parties] have provided more evidence of discriminatory intent than we have space, or need, to address here.”

Yes, that's the court saying that he evidence was so insanely overwhelming that they didn't even need to consider or discuss it all.

Hah! Thought you'd get that past them, didn't you? What is wrong with the south? Didn't you know that the world is watching and has not yet lost its collective mind? Try playing fair. In fact, why don't you get Romney to be specific about his economic plan BEFORE the election. Being honest might go a long way to getting the skeptics to vote for him.

The court was “troubled by the unchallenged evidence that the legislature removed the economic guts from the Black ability districts,” which caused economic harm to minority districts.

'Whether its voter suppresion or rigging election districts,"

To be clear, rigging elctoral districts in the manner and to the extent that the GOP/Teatrolls did in TX is a form of voter suppression. It was designed intentionally to weaken the very large population growth of the hispanic community and prevent the voting influence of the hispanic population from being equal to or commensurate with the amount that it has grown. 90% of the population growth in TX was from hispanics. As a result of it, TX got two more House seats in Congress and, therefore, 2 more electoral votes. The GOP/Teatrolls were trying to make sure that it all stayed "safely" under the control of the white population because, to put it bluntly, they fervently believe that "this was supposed to be a white people country."

What is a "Black ability district"?? What is a "minority district"?? So now our country is supposed to be carved up into special districts to guarantee minorities are elected? Whatever happened to desegregation??? What ever happened to one America?

I guess the Democrats only want to use race to divide the country but talk a whole different game when they run for office.

    Wake up America.

What happened to the Republican party? It is easy to blame it on the Tea Party, but they started losing their way before the Tea Party was even an idea. They have become like the Luddites of the Industrial Age. But instead of destroying machines and being dismissive of technological progress, they are destroying the Middle Class and are dismissive of anyone who does not believe exactly as they do and of progress in any shape or form. The GOP WAS once a grand party; increasingly, they are an embarrassment, representative of so much of what is wrong with this country.

did anyone see the web site True the Vote. Plain and simple they are about Voter intimidation. Volunteers who go to the minority voting places and place two or three people there to just stare down and intimidating all the voters to suppress and draw them away from voting. Watch out everyone especially in the swing states, Texas is one of their favorites.

Too bad Ohio doesn't fall under this law. Nothing like limiting voting times for people that work. At least the fools had enough intelligence to unite the rules for all counties.

Funny, it took him being in the spotlight to act like he could act right. Why don't republicans act right without the help of the lame stream media?

It is sad that the once sensible GOP has reduced itself to attempting win elections by restricting the vote. They play with fire when they restrict freedom.

The only thing I will say in the defense of this blatant scam is that the Texas GOP isn't out to suppress the votes of minorities, youth, etc. It is out to suppress the votes of democrats! Any democrat anywhere in Texas. The GOP has complete control of the state government and are running the state into the ground. With the TP pulling the strings the politicians can't get far enough to the right fast enough. The reddest state is heading for its blackest days.
