Romney speaks with Louisiana governor as Isaac approaches

Tampa, Florida (CNN) - As Hurricane Isaac approaches landfall, likely in Louisiana, Mitt Romney on Tuesday spoke with Gov. Bobby Jindal, and his campaign is preparing to post a relief donation option on its webpage, a Romney campaign official told CNN.

The GOP presidential candidate, who is expected to achieve his party's presidential nomination this week, has been receiving daily updates on the storm, the official said.

Romney communicated to Jindal that his campaign was "ready to help as much as we can," the official added, noting that resources are in place in the convention host city of Tampa, Florida, should a relief benefit event be organized.

Isaac was initially projected to impact Tampa on Monday, and the Republican National Convention canceled official events that day. Isaac is expected to make landfall along the Gulf Coast late Tuesday or early Wednesday.

Jindal had been scheduled to attend the GOP convention, but announced he would instead stay in Louisiana to monitor and deal with the storm.

Aw, it's cute to see Romney acting like he cares. I wonder if Bobby Jindal was a Democrat if Romney would care or if this was not an election year would he spare a thought to those in the path of a very volatile Mother Nature? Sorry to sound cynical, but the GOP has made me go there a lot since President Obama was elected.

Louisiana is in the competent hands of Republican Gov. Jindal. Had he been the governor 7 year sago when Katrina hit, all of those people that died would probably be alive today. It's the same competent Republican leadership that we need in DC right now. Romney/Ryan is the only answer to the Obama Jobs Depression.

Pander much, Mittens. How about some of that Koch, Rove and Adelson money for the drought stricken midwest, the fires in the mountain west, and the flooded regions of the other southern states?

What does the Gov. of LA have to do with the levees failing? Nothing. The levees are maintained by the Army Corp of Engineers. Did you know that a major levee repair and upgrade project was cancelled and the funding redirected to help pay for the war on terror?

The truths doesn't hurt nearly as much as stupidity. If Jindal had been governor 7 years ago, nothing would have changed because New Orleans was in poor shape to withstand Katrina. The entire area has been rebuilt and reinforced. Dont disrepect those who died with your partisan nonsense.

truth hurts – seven years ago, everyone, including the Federal Government, didn't believe that Katrina would hit, nor would it be as powerful as it actually was. The big difference is New Orleans and Louisiana both learned a harsh lesson and is taking more proactive steps to ensure the safety of the citizens. Also, the majority of the damage and loss of life was not from the initial winds but from the storm surge, and poor design of the flood gates on the canals that resulted in the inundation of low-lying areas that should never have allowed construction the way it was done. NOLA was a disaster waiting to happen thanks to its building codes and reliance on a 150 year old levee system that had not been maintained due to budget cuts and ownership issues (while the Corps of Engineers built them, they insisted the maintenance of them was the responsibilities of the cities and states that did not ask for them).

Seriously. You've gotta love how they can yell and scream about big gov't being in the way and blah blah self-reliance and responsibility and then do a 180 and engage in wild fantasies of some GOPer waving his ideology around like a post-fluff political Ron Jeremy to magically use the gov't to make everything better.

I hope this small government Republican doesn't need any Federal Government assistance. He should ask his church and the private sector for help.

I wonder what FEMA's budget would be under the Romney-Ryan plan. We know that Ryan's budget proposal cuts most spending outside of SS, Medicare (which it voucherizes), and the military by something like 90%. Gotta pay for eliminating taxes on estates, capital gains, interest, and dividends – you know, the kind of income items most working people have little of.

We have a system where there is ONE leader at a time. The fact that this candidate thinks he should get updates before he holds any elected office disturbs me. Jindal will use this to say that Mitt "cares" about the state and at the same time he (Jindal) declines stimulus funds and any assistance from the current Presidential administration – money that the people of the state could use.

Raul Ryan, had hoped to scrap as a way to make his House GOP budget look smaller by about $10 billion a year. paul Ryan tried to cut a new disaster aid program championed by President Obama that "budgets help for victims of hurricanes, tornadoes and floods before they occur."

John Bonehead says Rob-money is "shy and humble", but he misspoke. He meant to say Rob-money "lies and bumbles", or maybe it was that he's "sly and fumbles". "Cries and mumbles"?

As far as I'm concerned, he can die and crumble.
