'Shy' and 'humble' Romney has chance for re-introduction, Boehner says

Tampa, Florida (CNN) – Mitt Romney's Thursday night speech at the Republican National Convention will allow the Republican candidate to break through a "shy" exterior and speak directly to voters, House Speaker John Boehner said Tuesday.

"He is a very shy guy. He is a humble guy. He doesn't like to talk about himself. That's who he is," Boehner told CNN Senior Congressional Correspondent Dana Bash. "But I've known Mitt Romney for a long time. Decent, honest, hard working guy. And I think Thursday he'll have a chance to reintroduce himself to the American people."

The convention in Tampa, Florida comes one week after Rep. Todd Akin sparked an uproar over comments he made about rape and pregnancy. Many top Republicans sharply rebuked Akin for the remarks, as Democrats used the comment to once again pound the GOP for waging a so-called war on women.

"I made it clear that I disagreed with those remarks," Boehner said. "I thought they were wrong and frankly I thought they were harmful. Their views don't reflect the broad views of the Republican Party."

Any talk of a problem with women in the Republican Party, Boehner said, was weighed by Democrats' struggles attracting male voters.

"The Democratic Party has a problem with men," Boehner said. "If you look at this, we've had this gender gap, Democrats have had with men, Republicans with women, over the last 20 years and it's something I think both parties have to pay attention to and clearly we do as well."

Romney arrived in Tampa on Tuesday morning, and is expected to formally accept the GOP presidential nomination in a prime-time speech Thursday evening. Many Americans have yet to begin tuning into the presidential election, making his convention speech an essential element in his bid to attract voters.

Boehner said Tuesday that the speech would be Romney's first chance to speak for himself, rather than be defined by either his Republican primary rivals or by President Barack Obama.

"He's been locked in this Republican primary and then locked into this battle with the president," Boehner said. "And as a result people have all different kind of views of him. So I think Thursday night is clearly an important speech for him and I think he'll have a chance to reintroduce himself to the American people, most of whom are just paying attention now."

The Ohio Republican, who will preside over Tuesday's session of the GOP convention, said his speech would center on the issue at the top of voters' minds: the economy.

"Clearly it's all about the economy," Boehner said. "The president's policies have failed and made things worse and as a result he's ended up turning to the politics of envy and division."

Where the heck do I start...

Shy? Well, that's just absurd and doesn't really deserve anything more than "Actions speak louder than words." You don't go into politics and public speaking etc if you're shy.

Humble? BWAHAHAHAHA. Arrogant rich dude runs for POTUS for an entire decade and he gets called "humble." Sigh.

Doesn't want to talk about himself? Well, Captain Orangeglow got 1 out of 3 right. Mittens spends all his time bashing Obama and avoiding talking about any details or specifics of his alleged "plans," won't release his tax returns and avoids talk of Bain, car elevators and pet dogs, so yeah, he really REALLY doesn't want to talk about himself.

The only true thing in Boehner's statement is the implication that things were bad under Bush. What he did not do was take credit for doing absolutely nothing to help and everything to obstruct. That has been his job and the job of Congress for 4 years, and he's an idiot if he thinks we can't see that. He also left out an important point: Romney = Bush = disaster.

Boehner makes me want to vomit with this bull he's spewing.

Shy and humble, don't make me laugh. If he were so shy and humble he wouldn't be trying so hard for the White House. He has all the money, now he wants all the power.

I respectfully disagree. Which is why I won't be watching Mr. Mittens try to "redefine" himself. Saw enough of him during the primaries, and "humble" wasn't cutting it for me then anymore than it will now.

'You people' should notice that Mittens the plutocrat is going to play the role of a shy and humble panderer. He can lie like no other.

Romney is "shy and humble" like Donald Trump. For Boner to have the gall to utter those words shows how slimy politicians can be and how gullible Republican voters can become when hate is the driving force.

In 2008, obama promised transparency ... to fix our economy ... to defend our constitution. In 2008 Americans were deceived by obama, and sold a bill of goods. Everyone got so swept up by his soaring rhetoric ... so that unfortunately, when the honeymoon was soon over, we were left with a FAR left ideologue, who ran this country into the ground. Therefore, those who voted for obama in 2008, at least had an excuse, of not knowing any better ... BUT, anybody who falls for his B.S. in 2012, is just a fool and a sucker, whose gullible lack of judgement will bring down this country ... beyond repair. America is MORE important than obama ... obama is replaceable ... America is not !!! SAVE AMERICA ... ROMNEY/RYAN 2012 !!!

Remember what Obama said in 2008, if you can't run on your own record just trash the other guy and win on trashing the other guy which is exactly what Obama and Democrats have been doing because Obama can not run on his own record in the White House.

Shy and humble? Nice adjectives. Won't work. We've already been introduced to Mr Romney. I guess he's become shy over the years after he boldly tackled one of his classmates and cut off his hair while shouting disparaging language. Humble as he shows us his tax returns in deference to his would-be mass of followers. Oh yeah. Real shy. Real humble. Real rich. Real 1/%. Really lyin'. Puleeze...

This is "Mitt Romney Rollout #2" that we are going to see tonight. The first version was a flop in London. Reviewers gave his London debut two thumbs down.

Shy and humble? It's more like flip-flopping, opportunistic, arrogant, spoiled, and entitled. No speech is going to change what Romney really is.

I think he was talking about Republicans when he said that I guess that is why Republicans are questioning Pres. Obama's birth certificate, his patriotism, education, cultural intellect, and host of other topics of character asassination..

Time to shake up the good old Etch-A-Sketch. And, by the way, Boehner is invalid. The republican party has no shame or respect for the people of this great country, they do all of this right in front of our faces and smirk about it.

I question whether having Boehner as a surrogate for how this should be about the economy is helpful.

Boehner has had his House throwing "jobs bills" at the wall for how long now? If the economy is the #1 priority, then why was defunding Planned Parenthood or the ACA put into a bill that was about the #1 priorty?

I just don't see how a guy from a Congress with a +/- 10% approval rating can help Romney. You don't see Team Obama coordinating with Reid or Pelosi for an endorsement. It's just not a spot where an endorsement can help.

“And I think Thursday he'll have a chance to reintroduce himself to the American people."
So even Spkr. Boehner is acknowledging that Gov. Romney has a problem with how he is viewed. Why else would he need to be reintroduced? BTW... it won't matter.

No, what I was watching was between Obama and Hillary Clinton in 2008 and Hillary didn't have a record to run on according to Obama and Hillary said Obama didn't have a record to run on and Obama was explaining strategy he had learned on how to defeat your opponent.

They are talking about how much air time ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN, MSNBC dedicate to Obama through out the year and anyone else like Romney or whomever has a very difficult time getting equal air time. Obama is constantly on the air and has favoritism. It's hard to beat Obama's well known persona when the networks won't give anyone else a chance of addressing viewers.

The New and Improved Mitt 3.2. Yes, the Mitt 3.2 is a vast improvement on last year's model. This one comes complete with all the new flops he's had since....well, just earlier this year. You can update his talking points, have online discussion with other Mitt 3.2 owners about what his future views will be and use your model to have online debates with other Mitt 3.2 owners.

But wait, there's more. If you call now, we'll throw in a Paul Ryan action figure. Comes complete with flip-flop action and a Ayn Rand handbook. Act now, phone lines are open!
