President Barack Obama gets upvoted

(CNN) - When President Barack Obama decided to take questions directly over social media he didn't turn to his 28 million Facebook fans, or his 19 million Twitter followers. Instead, he turned to a website called Reddit where popularity is measured, fittingly, in votes.

"Hi I'm Barack Obama, President of the United States," Obama posted on the site by way of introduction. User Druken_Economist posted "moderators and admins have confirmed this thread; this is actually President Obama." Several other verification items also confirmed it, including a tweet from the official Barack Obama Twitter account and a photo on Reddit of the president seated at a plain wooden desk, staring into an Apple laptop in front of a single lamp.

Paul supporters protest through convention halls

Tampa, Florida (CNN) - A large number of Ron Paul supporters marched through the halls of the Tampa Bay Times Forum, site of the Republican convention, protesting what they feel is unfair treatment by organizers against them.

The group, estimated at several hundred, marched through the upper hallways of the site shouting "As Maine goes, so goes the nation" in protest of the Republican National Committee voting not to seat 10 delegates from Maine and replacing them with pro-Mitt Romney ones. Also 10 alternates were not seated.

'Gen Xer' Paul Ryan takes up GOP torch, makes case to young voters

Tampa, Florida (CNN) – For many Republicans of his era, Paul Ryan symbolizes an overdue change and call to the Reagan-era principles that appealed to many young voters in the 1980s and that the party hopes will attract a range of youthful support in November.

"As a fellow Gen Xer, I'm excited about him and it says a lot," said Dylan Glenn, a former Bush administration economic policy analyst who has been friends with Ryan, 42, for nearly two decades.

(CNN) - Military requests for absentee ballots are remarkably low this year, according to a recent report from a military voting advocacy group that faults the Defense Department with not providing mandated voter assistance to service members.
