(CNN) - Anyone can turn on a TV, scan their newsfeeds or fire up a laptop to quickly get a sense of the important topics being discussed at the Republican National Convention.
This is not about those. This is for those other moments - the ones that make us SMH or LOL or unfollow certain people on Twitter. These are the moments that prompt us to show our phones to the person next to us, eyes wide with disbelief and mischief. It's not news.

1. Strange looks
Men and women had plenty to say about Condoleezza Rice's lipstick malfunction on Twitter and Instagram during her Wednesday speech.
"I don't care what their beliefs are I will always feel completely awful for any woman who has lipstick on their teeth in public," wrote Twitter user @Morgan Murphy. Others were not so kind.
"A good friend would have told Condi she had lipstick on her teeth. Where's Ann? Dropping the ball, that's where," wrote @mkusek01060
At least no one created a Twitter account for Condi's Lipstick.
The distraction theme continued as Paul Ryan and his widow's peak took the stage.
"Paul Ryan. The charisma of Edward Kennedy. The widow's peak of Edward Munster," wrote @SteveintheKT
"All you listen to Ryan for his powerful speech, I just stare at his widow's peak," wrote @bey_guy87
On Facebook David Atherton attributed the following to Wikipedia, "In political polling, widow's peaks are considered to be a facial attribute for candidates that is a clear positive ... associated with being seen as more competent and with greater integrity."
2. Making faces
Continuing on the distraction theme were these tweets from co-creator of "The Daily Show," Liz Winstead.
"McCain is doing his blinky thing! The one where he blinks a bunch when he doesn't believe what he is saying," she posted.
"Blab all you want abt Ann Romney's speech- nothing will help if Mitt doesn't lose that 'I have a weird thing on my tongue' face."
This guy thinks he and Paul Ryan look alike.
And in one of the fantastically creepy trends to emerge from the convention delegates snapped photos of themselves wearing paper masks of Paul Ryan and then posted them to Instagram.
3. Bringing sexy back
But before Paul Ryan even opened his mouth Wednesday night, Twitter was already reflecting on Paul Ryan's sex appeal.
@chrissyadeleke Pretty ballsy speech by Paul Ryan. Not gonna lie. I liked it. He makes politics sexy. Because he is sexy.
@cMMoore6 Paul Ryan is sexy. #simple
@sarahcgoldstein Paul Ryan has the most handsome blue eyes. Very sexy.
@Lynzeebug22 Paul Ryan is kinda hot... Sexy vice president. Im down
You get the idea.
4. Elevator music musings
Step into the nearest elevator and what do you hear? Probably the Village Voice furiously typing this tweet after Ryan made a reference to the generation gap between him and Romney based on their music preferences:
@villagevoice Paul Ryan fails to realize that classic rock is pretty much the new elevator music http://bit.ly/NExCe8
Comedian @robfee quipped, " 'Haha Paul Ryan has dumb music on his iPod!' – Joe Biden as he duct tapes a Ray Stevens cd to his walkman"
5. Give Santorum a hand?
How many times did Santorum mention #hands during his Tuesday night speech? We stopped counting at 20.
Huffington Post senior editor Craig Kanalley said, "Rick Santorum said #hands 24 times,#Romney 3 times in that speech."
Listening to the BBC.
The World is laughing at the GOTP.
Well done, Mitt. Well done.
What could One... do to be elected?
Why someone would like to be a President, since there are risks and fear to walk on the street individually?
...is it to be in the history book?
...is it being eager to serve America and Americans, without prejudice, discrimination, hates and inequity?
I am sure, no-one will contribute like what Great Britain sacrificed everything to established North-America?
We were all being welcomed by Great Britain in North-America. So, why don't British continuously hold the Government positions? British know how to Govern.
Unconscionable that there was no mention of the horrific devastation from the hurricane, in "The "Gulf Coast," New Orleans,in particular. With no homes; no businesses; no schools.....what have those people to look forward to? No solutions for their loss or struggles to even exist!
My favorite Clint Eastwood line ever-Ya gotta let em go!-love that line-my new slogan Obama–Ya gotta let em go! –he's failed to do the job he was hired to do, he's never realized that we are his BOSS--not the other way around-he just is the wrong guy for the job–in way over his head!!!!!
Wow, what a lame article. OMG moments and no pics? I guess they really weren't OMG moments...
the personal speeches always crack me up. So, I hear your candidate might be a decent human being. Is that in question? I am positive that serial killers have a mother or neighbor willing to testify they sent flowers or helped them with their groceries. Just more proof that Americans are big on semantics, and not so much on clear plans grounded in reality.
Every time I hear Mitt say President Obama "hasn't done anything' it makes me say – the solution is to kick the Republicans out of congress that have blocked everything the President has attempted to do. give him 4 years with a congress that isn't stalemated and just see what can get done. Women, minorities, the poor and the middle class need a president that respects them – Mitt doesn't. His is for helping big oil, big business and his rich friends. He says he can create jobs – yes – jobs that serve him and the rich – making minimum wage (we need more waitresses, and Walmart workers). O, I forgot, they eat $500.00 steaks and wouldn't be caught dead in Walmart where we have to shop. He sends the good paying jobs overseas.
The GOP is a joke and the laughing stock of the world. Clint Eastwood was just awful. He was a live corpse talking to an empty chair. Eastwood looks like he climbed out of a crypt. Romney was boring and bland as usual. He refused to talk about his lousy record as Gov. of Mass. The man is totally phoney and a war monger. May God have mercy on us if we are stupid enough to vote for this man.
Obama has put in more debt in three years than bush and unemploment. I make 42 thousand a year and i no for a fact the rich pay hellva lot more in taxes than anyone else. Most liberals dont look at facts thay make things up and when u do bring facts up they change the subject and blame bush.fact obama idols growing up were socailze a hating preacher who said the hell with america and they hate americas demcoracy and in a interview couple years ago obama said these were his heros and agreed with them. His chief of staff on national tv 3 years ago said his hero was the chinese man who started communism and killed over 58 miilon people look in the news archives and u will see that but u liberals probaly blame bush.
My OMG moment ?
Well after watching tonight, it no doubt goes to one Clint Eastwood.
I've always liked Mr. Eastwood, but that was as bad and akward of a slow motion train wreck I've ever seen on live TV.
I think Paul Ryan looks like the guy from the Mad Comics, Alfred E. Newman, big ears and all. If only he were funny and not stupid scary. There ideas scare the you know what out of me.
Sorry...a widow's peak is just plain weird. haha Gooooooo, Eddie Munster!
Paul Ryan, Mitt's Sarah Palin. He has the looks factor and that is about it. We all know how having a model for a running mate worked out last time.
Romney/Ryan fossil fuel dependent energy policy would be catastrophic for our country. In spite of the endless proof of human induced climate change, some of the population is still in denial. There are three reasons for this (1) the belief that the rapid change in our climate over the last 50 years is part of a cycle although these cycles take thousands of years, (2) the occasional negative news story on the science of climate change, and (3) rightist conservative radical or ignorant tea party philosophy that climate change is a hoax. There are deniers in every scientific fact. Climate change deniers threaten humanity. Reversing climate change is impossible at this point due to the international thirst for fossil fuels and our overall society living standard. This is not going to change. So, rather than talking about stopping climate change, let’s ignore the utopian deniers and begin a dialogue on how to adapt and stop dwelling on environmentally and socially damaging energy topics like Solyndra and the keystone pipeline.
You ppl give attention to interestingly minute details. I guess tis American.
Are you sure that was red lipstick on Condoleezza's teeth? Thought it might still be left over blood from all the American lives lost when she falsely led the way into Iraq advising Bush there were Weapons of Mass Destruction there. She was, after all, the world's foremost authority on nuclear weapons movement and weapons of mass destruction. Never heard from her again after that horrible self important error untill recently. Yes, I am sure that is American blood on those teeth.
I am saddened. I cannot vote for Obama, I cannot vote for Romney. On a clear conscious I cannot vote for either. I refuse to vote for the "lesser of two evils" as they are both not worthy of the office. And in the meantime the political machine keeps us divided with promoted tweets where you can hear only the words you want. You have your choice of "news" channels to hear only the views you agree with. Through those channels and media they teach people to hate the other side. We are a divided nation, period. This country is on it's last few years of existence. Our government is broke. Media and the left teach people to hate the rich and say quirky little quips like "tax the rich" when the fact remains that if we taxed everyone earning $250,000 or more at 100% tax rate our government could operate for an astounding 8 days. 8 DAYS!!! Then the right who says "less government" wants to use government as a tool to interfere in someone's right to choice or who they marry. So dumb. We are taught how to think through the media and over the years we've slowly turned into a nation of people that hate one side or the other. That old phrase comes to mind. United We Stand, Divided We Fall. Well, we're falling, and falling fast.
This "Convention" refused to read the votes that Ron Paul got from the podium. Even Wolf Blitzer called it out in an interview with Rand Paul. And as soon as Blitzer questioned legality, Rand Paul's answer suddenly goes quiet. mmhmm. They just want to control the message. And if you think the DNC convention will be any different, well, you're a fill if you do.
Our government perpetuating oppression on us and we're taught to like it and accept it. If you really care about this country you'll read the NDAA, you'll read NDRP, you'll read the Obama healthcare law. I'm all for Universal Healthcare, but what you aren't told is that the insurance companies wrote well over half of the law. Do your homework and you'll realize that both sides stink on ice and we the people are losing, big time.
I suppose it doesn't matter though. When the bottom drops out of the economy next year and there's no food in the grocery stores we'll see real change, and it won't be pretty.
Good luck gang, we're gonna need it.
Rommeny has the skill set of a dead mouse.
Who cares what the BBC thinks.
Republicans are less Government and more Freedom. If you own your own business then you will not want the government coming in and trying to babysit and control you. If you are benefitting from more Government involvement (Socialism) then yes, you will want to vote for Obama. If you want more freedom and independence then you need to vote for Romney. Some people can't live without the government parenting them so they will vote for Obama. If you are going for the "American Dream" and you don't want to rely on the government as a crutch then vote for Romney. Obama is the worst President in the history of our country. He has taken a bad situation and made it worse. Romney will be a better choice for getting us into a better situation. He has experience in turning around failing businesses and making them successful and prosperous. This is what America needs right now. Obama will just be 4 more years of bringing us closer towards Socialism and more Government control. We need to repair this situation sooner than giving Obama 4 more years to dig us deeper in a hole. I say less government and more Freedom is the better choice. What do you say?
This article should be removed from this site. I don't agree with much of the politics on the right, either, but I think we need to be making legitimate arguments, rather than just publicly humiliating people. Whatever you think of Condoleeza Rice's politics, she is an incredibly accomplished, highly intelligent woman. This author certainly is no one I've ever heard of. This article makes people with leftist ideals look like mean middle school idiots and cyber bullies (I almost said high school, but the rhetoric wasn't quite at that level). If you want to talk about the issues, then talk about the issues. There are social boundaries of common decency, and CNN should be above this kind of crap that you wouldn't even find in a cheap tabloid. I guess if this is all we have to say about the GOP, then Romney has already won. Any independent watching these last few nights will recognize that the GOP made some very good points with civility and poise. If the democrats are going to try to win this thing, they're going to have to counter with the same, in my opinion. You expect this kind of obnoxiousness from commenters on some of these articles, but when it's the actual reporters doing it, you know the news outlet has a serious problem.
They are liars the just want to make an another hot mess . Obama 2012!
The "OMG!" moment was NOT Clint Eastwood. It was Mittens actually perpetuating the misnomer, the untruth of Barack Obama NOT BEING AN AMERICAN! When you say that "If you want something really big to get done, GET AN AMERICAN!", you've insulted second, third, and maybe fourth generation other-country-Americans who came to this country to escape, survive, live and succeed. Giving credit where it's due...the mortgage mess, Enron, Bernie Madoff were Made In America. Mittens doesn't know how to joke -so nothing he says is remotely amusing, but to be taken seriously.
How about this OMG moment: the GOP rejecting the Maine delegates. Here is another OMG moment: Sudden GOP rule changes (must win 8 states instead of 5) in order to prevent Ron Paul's nomination from the floor .
