CNN Fact Check: Trimming the Pentagon

(CNN) – Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney criticized planned cuts to the U.S. defense budget Thursday night, accusing President Barack Obama of weakening future American power.

"His trillion-dollar cuts to our military will eliminate hundreds of thousands of jobs, and also put our security at greater risk," the former Massachusetts governor said in his acceptance speech to the GOP national convention in Tampa, Florida. The line was met with boos by the delegates in the convention hall.

Americans need to be very worried about the plans Romney has for our military...more wars. How will he pay for this? He cuts taxes of wealthy..can`t get the money that way. Hey let's raid medicare by making seniors pay more, let's increase taxes on middle class and poor, cut programs to help neediest. But make sure the wealthy can buy their imported rolls, Rolex watches, etc which make few to no jobs for Americans. Americans wait for trickle down...but don't die waiting.

Why is he blaming Pres. Obama for the refusal of congressional Republicans to compromise. Most Republicans have sworn to "not compromise" including the Republican Speaker of the House, John Boehner, their leader.

So it is President Obama's fault that the Republicans that control the House (i.e. control the budget and spending) would not negotiate in good faith on a compromise that would reduce spending and increase revenue? Excellent example of revisionist thinking. Like blaming the Jews for the Kaiser's failure to win in The Great War.

I am sitting here (because I am off today) listening to all of the channels and trying to grasp what the Republicans are trying to “justify” how "affective" last night was. All they are coming out with is how the audience and onlookers were brought to TEARS, and they’re bragging about how many people were "crying" and how "sorrowful" the night was. I have ONE question, why is it that everyone had to be brought to TEARS, just to understand ROMNEY – I don’t buy that!? Why??? …

… because Romney then turns around and criticizes that moment in time in 2008 and how "exciting" it was when President Obama was elected and somehow NOW, that excitement is LOST (he wishes that, but it's not true). But Romney forgets that excitement rose from a very "historical” moment in our history and THAT, is a reason to cry!!! He also forgets that moment will come again in 2012 when President Obama is reelected. So Romney’s attempt to take all of that away from us – AND, the Republican’s attempt to make President Obama a one-term president from DAY ONE, is not going to work….. PERIOD!

With Mittens' promise of a new war against Iran, and no way to pay for it, he is even more out of touch than "W." His speech was full of lies and misinformation. For the sixth time he went with the 'pants of fire' lie about $716 billion cut from medicare, and, after attacking women's rights for two years, he began to pander for the women's vote by flip flopping. How can the Kochs, Rove, Adelson, and the swift boaters justify spending $2 billion to get this moron elected?

So that's why he wants to start more wars? To get more money for defense contractors?

ONLY if he puts his sons on the front lines. NO MORE WARS

Romney and the GOP's it is all about WAR, WAR, WAR, making the RICH richer, it is not about how we can fix the biggest Mess that the Republicans leave America, I have a question to ask Romney why is none of your Sons in the military, Shame on you Romney, for you GOP's it is ok to have our children in harms way but not your Sons.

Please tell me Americans are not so stupid as to fall for the Romney/Ryan crap. Please.

Liars, liars. Ryan even admits that the GM production plant in his home town in WI was closed before
President Obama was in office, and STILL CONTINUES TO LIE ABOUT THIS.

Wake up folks. These liars are way, way over the top, and are really frightening

Really? How is it that we can't keep track of what the Penatagon buys and pays to contractors? It needs to be more accountable which might be able to reduce costs without cutting programs. Also, some of the cuts are based on sequestration which is both the president's and Congress' fault because there was no agreement on things.

How can a Mormon,a draftdodger say anything about the pentagon. He was in France hiding from military service in Vietnam and as Commander in Chief you'd let him send your kids to war when he doesn't believe in war himself, how discerning, how hypocritical, how pathedic!!You voters leaning Romney better get your act together, you made this mistake years ago, remember Bush 43,that a catastrophe you most certainly don't want to repeat, think well your future rides on this one,one mistake a century is enough don't make another!!

Trim the defense budget. With the amount of insanely potent weapons we already have stockpiled, if someone truly wanted to attack this country it could mean the end of the world. Remember, if one nuke goes off, they all go off!

It seems that everything the Republicans lieabout relates tothem planningahead for it happening because of them. Take Ryans blatant lie about the President and the economy related to the Janesville plant – in early 2008 when the economy was booming and the president spoke of the economy asit was somehow Ryan eveidently knew it was going to crash under his and the Republican guidance – so now Romney talks about military cuts that are a lie (currently) but the Republicans must be planning for this and the loss of the jobs under their watch and then blaming the President again – their lies are so blatant they are now showing a moronic pattern that anyone with an IQ a in double digits should be able to see. Makes me want to throw up

Heres a fact – Ryan is a congressman working for our giv. Yet only people in his district can contact him via e-mail – so only what he feels is good for his district and not the country are his guides – a REAL patriot here- maybe he should be paid by his district – get his health care from his district and only be allowed to vote on matters from his district – seems fair to me

Now we get to the heart of the Republican party. They have never seen a conflict or argument they coul not turn into a war and could never pass up an opportunity to spend billion and billions and billions on defense projects.
I say let them build their moon colony and blast off real soon.
