Obama takes his seat

(CNN) – The Obama campaign offered a pointed comeback to Clint Eastwood's Republican National Convention chair sketch Thursday night tweeting, "This seat's taken" along with a picture of Obama in his Cabinet Room chair with a plaque inscribed: "The President."

Clint Eastwood was revealed as the GOP convention's "mystery guest" Thursday prior to the evening's prime time rundown and following media speculation of the schedule's empty slot. Eastwood's speech drew laughs, criticism and blank stares as he conversed with an empty chair placed on stage next to the podium. Eastwood, addressing an unseen President Barack Obama, condemned the incumbent for his ineffective policies, railing on his campaign's political tactics and handing a star studded endorsement to Thursday's intended focus, Mitt Romney.

Naturally, the notorious actor and director's speech sent the Twitter-verse reeling.

It wasn't long before Obama's campaign joined in the Twitter banter and jumped on Eastwood's seemingly unscripted speech, tweeting the picture of the commander in chief in his official chair.

And it wasn't long before that photo prompted a response.

Friday afternoon, the National Republican Senatorial Committee tweeted, "This seat's not," accompanied with a picture of an identical (but empty) chair facing the words "White House Jobs Council."

"It's been over 227 days since President Obama has met with his job's council," read the text on a webpage linked from the NRSC tweet. "Add to that the over 1,200 days since Senate Democrats have passed a budget and it is no wonder we are facing an unprecedented jobs and debt crisis."

Of course, both tweets included links to the respective campaigns' websites - the Obama campaign page sought a donation, while the NRSC page asked visitors to sign a digital petition.

Leave it to liberals to tear a senior citizen apart. I remember when they mocked John McCain and his stiffness due to his war injury in 2008. These are the people that are in control of our lives right now.Disgraceful!! Time for adults back in control of our lives. Romney/Ryan 2012!"

Oh, really? And what about Mitt and Pinocchio..I mean, Ryan? They love the elderly so much, their Medicaid VOUCHER plan will cost seniors up to $6500 MORE a year!
Please. Save your outrage. Clint made an a$$ out of himself, regardless of his age.

Guess all you libs will blame Bush when your energy costs skyrocket. Skyrocket is Obama's own word to describe his taxes on fuels that will come from his cap and trade bill which the epa is putting into effect since he can't even get his fellow democrats in the senate to help him pass it. They realize how much this thing will hurt the economy. Obama doesn't care how much he hurts the middle class and poor since he is a radical environmentalist and the only thing that matters to him is his "green agenda" which he thinks must be put in place no matter how much hardship and how many job losses it causes. Check out his speech on cap and trade in 2008 for the word skyrocket and his energy sec. earlier this year on wanting gas prices to be the same here as in Europe which is now $8 per gallon. If Obama was a republican I would be voting democratic in Nov. Obama and his cap and trade must go.

Did anyone else take note that the convention center in which the RNC took place with the banner "We Built This", was actually about 60% funded by government money? DOH!

    ------–
60% of the government's money? Looks like somebody forgot to take a civics course in school and learn that we as taxpayers fund the government. So in reality, who built this? We really did build this...sorry...DOH!!!

I don't know why people say the Republicans don't have any ballz. Old Mr. Eastman has kept every ball thrown into his yard since 1996.

Don't know why i should be surprised that there are a few actors who support the rethugs. they make their living in a profession based on fantasy. why not support the party that lives in fantasyland? this country needs reality-based, intelligent, caring people at the helm, not a bunch of whack jobs whose only talent is denying reality even when it's staring them in the face!

    What a sad Republican Convention.
The wife is used to tell the people what a good guy Romney is and Eastwood talks to an empty chair and that chair will have Obama in it for another 4 years.

"Mr. President – thank you for avoiding the Republican caused near Depression! If there was a President who was not mentioned at the convention because Republicans pray America has a short memory – it was George Bush! That chair could easily have been for him. You did good and history will show your actions prevented what otherwise would have been a far worse WORLDWIDE economic disaster"

There was a time back in 2001 that this country was as united as I have ever seen it. There was no hate towards one another, No racist accusations, and no question about what needed to be done. This county was one from President Bush to the houses, the states, cities, and towns. That date was 9/11. The man (if you can call him a man) that sits in the highest seat in this country today has replaced that unity with the worst hate that I have ever seen.
Is this the kind of leader that you really want?

Clint Eastwood was Republic mayor of Carmel so it is not surprising he is supporting the Republican party, although with their judgmental view on other people's lives he doesn't really measure up to their criteria with all of his marriages. The thing is, the Republicans have been doing nothing but trying to stop Pres. Obama from being able to accomplish anything. So Clint Eastwood's comments are not very informed ones.

Nothing like using some Alinsky tactics on Mr. Obama. They say he has very thin skin. This picture of the back of his head with his big, big, big ears sticking out is marvelous!

@ Dean – "It's been over 227 days since President Obama has met with his job's council,"----Obama does not have to meet with his jobs council, he's got his top advisor on jobs, Jeff Immelt, sending jobs to China and India every day.
    ----------------------------------------------------
Liar. More jobs are coming home because the Chinese workers are getting wise and American businessmen/women are beginning to see that we want products made in America by Americans. Oh, by the way, Mittens wants to take our country back. To what? Two unfunded wars and tax cuts, which is how we got into trouble in the first place?

Pretty thin skin Obama. Guy is such a narcissist. Can't take anyone not singing his praises esp out of Hollywood, that's his people. He doesn't take a 10th of the criticism from MSM that any conservative gets and he still can't take it. Perhaps if his cabinet met more often than every 8 months. Guess that's all the great one needs to focuses like a laser on the economy.
