(CNN) – President Barack Obama said in an interview published Sunday he took no offense at Clint Eastwood's prime-time address at the Republican National Convention, in which the legendary actor and director posed questions to an empty chair, which he said represented the Democratic incumbent.
"One thing about being president or running for president - if you're easily offended, you should probably choose another profession," Obama told USA Today.

Eastwood's speech came the same night Mitt Romney accepted the Republican presidential nomination in Tampa, Florida. The sprawling, off-the-cuff address drew criticism from some, who said Eastwood's unorthodox remarks overshadowed Romney. The Republican nominee's advisers wrote off the criticism, saying the crowd found Eastwood's remarks funny.
"He's a great messenger. The guy is an American treasure," Romney senior strategist Stuart Stevens said.
Obama agreed with that sentiment in the USA Today interview, calling Eastwood "a great actor, and an even better director."
"I think the last few movies that he's made have been terrific," the president added.
That appreciation, however, doesn't mean Democrats will try to mimic Eastwood's performance at their own confab, slated to begin in Charlotte, North Carolina, on Tuesday.
"I think we'll be playing this pretty straight," Obama said.
What a freak show that was. A senile old geezer talking to a chair. Too bad Heston couldnt have been dug up and his body dragged accross the stage.
It's difficult to take the vitrolic statements from Democrats and Republicans alike. The last two candidates said they would have administrations built on bi-partisanship, both failed miserably! No administrations seems more at-odds with the minority than this one, unfortunately! Just as Obama was rushed into office because of a country seeking change, it's definiely time for him to go for the same reason! Let's get a business person in here to run the country and bring in something that is lacking: accountability. Let's hope that Romney isn't blaming it on his predeccesor 4 years from now. I don't think he will.
News Flash, Clint, you have been too busy making good movies to do your homework! This proves that watching Faux Spews can make anyone delusional! But, you did not have the curlyones to put Morgan Freeman in the chair!
remember what Bruce Lee said? "Chairs don't hit back"!
Sorry to remind you Clint! There was never a recorded incident in the old West where two men stood in a street and tried to fast draw one another!
Thats all a myth!
The other myth is that you are tough! Thats a "movie myth"!
The lies you helped spred, now demand that you find out the truth and
then apologize to your fans!
Any thinking person can convince you of the truth, anybody who can add!
I believe that Clint Eastwood represented the GOP perfectly: There's no problem with what the actual president (moderate, careful, well considered, very classy) is doing, so they simply manufacture complete nonsense and say THAT is the president – just so they have something that they can run against.
Art imitating life.
Playing it straight, why? Cuz we need to keep it focused on cleaning the mess of eight years of playing make believe.
The whole episode with Clint Eastwood and all involved with the idea of his act was simply uncouth. Something like that has no place at any political convention or anywhere else, except maybe in a bar. When I think of this convention, that is what I will remember most, along with all the disparaging remarks about the president. It certainly showed the Repubs insecurities and lack of class. I hope the Democratic convention offers better.
What a breath of fresh air
Clint Eastwood was fantastic!!!! At 82 he rocks!!!!
We are honored to have a President who is as intelligent, caring, and accepting as President Obama.
Thank you Mr. President
Have you noticed how hypocritical liberals are? They claim to be so compassionate and caring, and look how they treat ANYONE who dares to disagree with them.
Hey Truthbagger....Why are you so full of hate? What did Clint say about President Obama that wasn't True? Was it when he said 'When Somebody Does Not Do the Job, We Gotta Let 'Em Go'? or maybe when he said, because somebody had the stupid idea of trying terrorists in downtown New York? Or maybe when Clint said, I never thought it was a good idea for attorneys to the president? I think I know what made you to be so Hatefull towards Clint, It was when he said, Biden is the intellect of the Democtratic Party? Or did you get angry when Clint said he cried because 23 MILLION PEOPLE IN OUR COUNTRY ARE OUT OF WORK!! Yes, so many lies in that speach.
Eastwood was heard off camera asking the chair where the diaper changing station was
Obama: No offense taken at Eastwood speech
The "chair" speaks ???
Be still my heart !!!
FORWARD -> -> ->
To serfdom on the government plantation !!!
A spaghetti western actor giving a political speech? Does he think he Reagan? Politics are everything that's wrong with this country. Obama and Romney both are not the answer but the problem.
"Much to the consternation of the Secret Service detail assigned to the president, 'In The Line Of Fire' has now been banned on Air Force One, and all executive branch facilities."
Eastwood stepped out of "Geezer Gulch" and spoke to a chair. Now that's original... a form of performance art.
For Eastwood it was not one of his finer acting moments, sad to say. The crowd may have liked it, but the GOP farted on this one. It definitely took away from the Romney speech.
How many attendees will remember what Romney said? Now that I think of it...it may have been a ploy by his campaign to obfuscate a lack luster speech after all. Good job GOP!
