Republicans launch DNC counteroffensive in Charlotte

Charlotte, North Carolina (CNN) - Republicans launched their counter-programming effort in Charlotte on Monday with a simple message: Americans are not better off today than they were four years ago.

"The thrill and pixie dust of the Barack Obama presidency is gone," Republican National Committee chairman Reince Priebus told reporters. "There is no hope … After four years of Barack Obama we are not better off."

Priebus was speaking inside a sleek "war room" that GOP officials opened in the basement of the NASCAR Plaza office tower in downtown Charlotte, just steps from the newly-erected security perimeter surrounding Democratic National Convention festivities.

"Barack Obama, four years ago, campaigned on an economy that was difficult, but he campaigned on that economy, campaigned that he would fix that economy," Priebus said. "Either he didn't understand the gravity of what he was doing or what he was walking into, or he completely failed."

Priebus also revised his prediction from before the Republican National Convention in Tampa that Mitt Romney would get a "real" and "visible" bounce in the polls after his convention speech.

While spotty, national polling since the GOP convention has no discernable bump for Romney.

Priebus said Republicans are feeling "a lot of momentum" out of Tampa but acknowledged that there has only been "a small bump" since Tampa.

"We have nowhere else to go but up," he said.

Imagine: You are travelling on this beautiful highway when without any warning, and for reasons that you can’t seem to readily ascertain, you find your car hanging precariously over a ditch. The wheels are falling off. The bottom of the ditch is a long way down! You soon realize that even the slightest move you make in the car brings you dangerously closer to the bottom. While you sit there panicking, you see a glitter of hope. Someone has come to your rescue! What would you have that person do FIRST?
If you answer, “Secure my car”, then you are thinking! You see, the car is like the USA economy. Four years ago, President Barack Obama inherited a country tethering on the banks of economic collapse, like that car! Jobs were being lost. Houses were going under water. He had to secure the country FIRST despite the efforts of those who openly and secretly advocated his failure. It took a lot of guts and positive planning, despite the many “No’s” from those who were sent to help him. But he did it!
The car is now secured. The driver is safe. Now we can turn to the job or repairing the car! Therefore, it is okay to say, without a doubt, that “Americans is better off today than it was four years ago.”

With all the Gop Plan to stop Obama from succeeding right from the day of the inauguration , and if we have to give all that into account, the way this republican are behaving, i don't think they deserve a single vote from American people. All they intend was to wreck the economy and put the blame on Obama, nope, that didn't work, they turn to personal attack, and that didn't work either. Open your eyes America, gOP are not the right Party to fix our economy.

Romney/Ryan = Bought & Paid For All Along

That is the Republicans problem. They can't even admit when they screwed up. Their followers believe that Frank and Dodd ruined the economy alone. It amazes me that people think Republicans can fix the economy when they don't even know why it tanked in the 1st place.

Thanks for the post BillC, I agree with you. You can't rush a car hanging by a string, got to be slow and easy. So many people want instant this and instant that. It just doesn't happen.

4 years ago the Dow Jones was in free fall and the economy was in ruins. Now the Dow has doubled in 3 1/2 years and GM and Chrysler are healthy and repaid their loans with interest ahead of schedule. Yes we are better off.

Wow people really do believe this radical muslim. I saw someone wrote about the gop being the ones who are nasty wow the only one I see being nasty and spewing evil rhetoric is Obama and his cronies. We the Republicans will be all voting in November so we can get this evil radical muslom out of the white house. The democrats can go live in Obamaland when President Romney and VP Ryan move into the white house.

Vote Republican, take away women's rights, take away Gay's and Lesbian's rights, take away social programs for the poor and elderly. Someday someone in your family will be one of those and I hope you suffer inside for doing harm to another human being.

I like the bumper sticker that says "I don't mind you being rich, I just don't like you trying to buy the country". Memo to Romney/Ryan.

GM has NOT paid off they're debt in full. In fact, the US owns over 25% of the outstanding GM stock which is down nearly 50% from where the US purchased it.

In addition, those auto jobs that are being created, albeit at a slower pace, are now paying wages at 30% LESS than what were paid four years ago.

Barack Obama did not secure the U.S. economy. Adding record amounts of debt and creating uncertainty among businesses large and small has kept companies from
    hiring. This isn't rocket science...

Mitt Romney would not have been my first choice by a long shot but it might be nice to have a president who's actually accomplished something professionally. Maybe someone who actually did build that.

If Obama doesn't win this election, I like millions of other Americans expect Republicans not to blame Obama, I expect Romney to create those 12 million jobs in a year as he said, I expect every American to be rich like Romney with accounts in Switzerland, Cayman Island, Bermuda and a Blind Trust, I expect parents to be able to pay for their childrens college education, I expect for every American who has a pre-existing medical problem to be insured like Ann Romney, I expect your sons and daughters not to go to war just like Romney's five(5) sons and expect not to hear one complaint from those who voted them in, not one.

iIn 1995 Obama Had His Busy hands Into the SCREWING UP of OUR ECONOMY... Obama Led a Class Action suit Against Citibank forcing the bank to give loans to 186 clients who were of VERY Questionable qualifications, citing discrimination against Blacks, he won and they were given Sub-Prime loans.. Which added to the real Estate and failing banks Debacle. Today less than 10 % of his clients still own homes... The Rest were foreclosed on or went into bankruptcy ... A Loose Loose Proposition for EVERYONE... Does He Care ?? I seriously Doubt it... Obama's Ideologies are DESTROYING OUR ECONOMY and Country...
