Obama's speech to move indoors

Charlotte, North Carolina (CNN) - After days of bad weather, President Barack Obama's re-election campaign and Democratic National Convention organizers have decided to change the venue of the president's acceptance speech Thursday in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Instead of holding the final night at the Bank of America stadium as planned, the event will move indoors to the Time Warner Cable arena, where the first two days of the convention have taken place.

"We have been monitoring weather forecasts closely and several reports predict thunderstorms in the area, therefore we have decided to move Thursday's proceedings to Time Warner Cable Arena to ensure the safety and security of our delegates and convention guests," said DNCC CEO Steve Kerrigan.

Officials had already handed out 65,000 tickets for the event at the Bank of America stadium, but the Time Warner Cable Arena-home to NBA's Charlotte Bobcats-can seat up to 21,000. As a result, thousands will be turned away.

"We're disappointed they won't be able to join us in person," one organizer said. "But we are encouraging people to organize watch parties at their homes, in their neighborhoods, with their friends."

Officials added they plan to host a separate event at a later time for those who had credentialed for the stadium. They did not elaborate on when exactly that event would take place, only saying "sometime before Election Day."

Some argued this week that convention organizers had failed to fill the stadium, and moving the event to a smaller, more-packed venue would provide better optics for the president's speech

DNC officials, however, argued that decision was purely based on safety, not politics.

"We were concerned about capacity on the high end for Thursday, not on the low end," one official said, adding they had 19,000 people on the wait list for the stadium.

In an interview with a local TV station in Virginia, conducted before the venue change was announced, Obama said he's more focused on his message than capacity concerns at the DNC.

"My main goal is not to worry about the logistics of the convention," Obama said. "My main goal, I think, is to communicate to the American people how we can move forward."

CNN's Ashley Killough contributed to this report.

Stop cherry-picking. You are not talking about the same year, his first year. Buuuut........

Nothing changes the fact that he cut hundreds of millions from education to pay for tax cuts. Nothing changes the original point that Christie reneged on his compromises and used his line item veto pen to cut items that I said were promised to Democrats. Thanks for documenting the line item budget cuts so well, BTW

Not only did he publicly yell at the NJ Teacher of the Year, his budget cuts to education.

Can these people ever tell the truth? They moved it because nobody is buying their bull anymore. I bet if he was stepping down he would be able to fill the stadium.

The British press called this early in the week, citing sources as saying it was a done deal because they didn't want the TV cameras showing a sea of empty seats. If your Messiah, who can make the oceans recede and heal the planet (his words, not mine) can't even control a thunderstorm, he must be a pretty weak God. I'm glad my God is still in charge.

Everyone should see youtbe - CIA Asset Susan Lindauer Can Now Speak 10 years after 9-11. / YouTube

    She verifies:
1 The Bush WH was behind 9/11
2 Everything we were told about Iraq were lies
3 Towers came down by bombing. Nukes (thermite?) which melted the steel. Everyone in NY were contaminated.
4 Soldiers in Iraq were exposed to depleted uranium, (among other things?)
5 Iraq war was to steal the gold ( bullion and historical gold artifacts, according to another source)
    6. No plane struck the Pentagon
7 Third plane was shot down, and that AFpilot still in prison.
    8 The Silverstein connection
    and more.

Congress and House and CIA knew.

    Dan,

You are so right all Obama is doing is dividing this country with class warfare and good vs. evil.

It's time America wakes up before it's to late.

Fastcheck was asking the question where are the 4.5 million jobs Obama is so not true in August Obama said that he is only 316,000 less jobs than we he took over in 2009 the math doesn't add up.

Put the Kool Aid down and vote Obama out before this country starts looking like Spain and Greece we are not far behind. How many jobs were lost with his failed bail out even GM paid us pack hale what they owe the tax payers the rest was given in stock which is 60% of the value when GM gave us the stock. We don't earn interest on that and where did the payback go bet it didn't buy any of the debt down what a joke this guy and the people who still think he is the greatest are.

16 TRILLION DOLLARS in debt that's more than all of Europe made together the debt continues to grow with the failed policies of Obama and his party of spend what we don't have.

Dan, I'm glad the dems are all-inclusive. Too many of us wouldn't pass the "purity test" you hypocritically impose on others. Crist Himself will one day call you and the rethugs onto the carpet for your hate and intolerance.

I live near Charlotte. It has been storming all week. Usually when they call for a 70% chance of rain here, it does nothing....yet it pours when it's a 20% chance. I m disappointed, since I had a ticket. But if they went forward with it, & something did happen, it would obviously be worse than moving it indoors. I don't like it, but it's not my decision to make.

Obviously the POTUS is concerned about the health and safety of those in attendance. He would not risk harm to would be attendees should lightning hit the stadium. 30% is far too great when there is an easy option for avoiding the danger. Yes, it stinks for the thousands who were promised a ticket and now cannot go, but their safety has got to come first. The POTUS first responsibility is to protect the safety of the people of this fine country, that is what he is doing with this move.

The talking heads over at Faux News are continuing to perpetrate their overt racism through suggesting that the POTUS could not fill a stadium. What they mean to say is that 70,000 people wouldn't go see a black man speak, and it is despicable! Fox needs to have a more diverse and open minded group of commentators, rather than the kloseted klan they "employ" today. Do some real reporting, and stop burning the proverbial cross, then people might take you seriously instead of treating you like the 3rd rate network that you are.
