New York (CNNMoney) - The stakes are high and the forecast is gloomy, ahead of the August jobs report scheduled to be released Friday by the Labor Department.
A month ago, that report showed businesses added 163,000 jobs in July. Job gains at that level were the strongest in five months, but still were not robust enough to keep up with population growth. The unemployment rate ticked up to 8.3%.
Unfortunately, August doesn't look like it fared much better.

"Time to try something different. Simple as that."
Problem is ... the same old trickle down nonsense that Romney/Ryan is peddling is NOT something different. It really is simple, Fair is Fair.
Reid was majority leader and Pelosi speaker. That means they ran congress. And that also means the Democrats have had either congress or the white house for SIX years. Not four.
The Great Recession began in Dec. 2007, which was less than a year after the Democrats took over Congress. Meanwhile, Republicans had ran both the White House and the Congress for SIX years prior to that, and the Congress for another SIX years prior to that. And it all ended in the worst economic collapse since the Great Depression. Republicans had ran the government like kids in a candy store. Tax Cuts. Deregulation. Tax cuts. Start wars. Tax cuts.
Support for Obama is going to start eroding over the next few months and we will have new leadership soon. He is no longer filling up stadiums as most have learned its empty rhetoric and a new direction is badly needed.
President Obama, during his 2008 campaign, criticized President Bush for taking “out a credit card from the Bank of China in the name of our children, driving up our national debt from $5 trillion for the first 42 presidents … so that we now have over $9 trillion of debt that we are going to have to pay back.
Lest we forget....
Thank you Paul Ryan for all such hard work in the do nothing congress !
Tell me again about your back pain !
Isn't this still better than when we were losing 800,000 jobs per month during the last RepukeliCON President?
The first jobs bill did absoloutly nothing to increase jobs. 25 million american are unemployed because of Obama's constant attack on job creators.
You poor brain-washed Repukes have forgotten just how bad it was when President Obama took office. The Grover Norquest traitors have done nothing but block anything that is good for our economy and job growth, just to get 'their guy' in office. This has been their goal from day one. They care nothing about our country, only about those who are lining their pockets. I used to be a Republican, but then I opened my eyes!
The only states that are going all out for the President are the ones facing financial crisis. They look to the Fed for financial help in the form of jobs, projects and cash. Of course they're not going to run away from their sugar daddy. After the election I believe one or two states will declare bankruptcy. If this is the case they should loose their electoral collage points because it poses a conflict of interest between federal and state governments.
CEO's are still getting their big checks and bonuses. Stock Market doing great so why are these corporation (which are people) hiring more and increasing benefits – Also they are cutting back on benefits – i.e. insurance, retirements. If you are middle to upper middle class you need to carefully pick the person you vote for. Romney/Ryan wants to take us back to the Bush years and even worse. I have heard so many lies and flip-flops that I cannot cast my vote for GOP. The videos do not lie when the words come out of their mouths. We are on the right, but slow, track to make America great again and my vote will be to give the President 4 more years. He cannot undo in 3 what it took us 8 to accfumulate. And we all know Bush inherited a good economy and in his 8 years we were in the worst shape since the great depression. The GOP has done nothing but bash Obama and little substance. The only plans they have is to cut health benefits and go to war. Also, the war on women they have begun. If you are a woman for you and your family you must vote for the re-election of the President. Romney is a spoiled rich kid who is clueless, spineless and needs to move where his money is!!!

...If Congress had done more to approve the infrastructure jobs program that had been requested, then these private sector growth numbers would be higher.
Debt-financed temp jobs at $2 + million each do not put the nation back on track. Next excuse?
4 years after Obama promised to keep unemployment below 8%
4 years after Obama said he should not keep his job if he could not produce as promised..
Better than bush and a Gop jobs report . I'll vote for Obama anyway ,at least he's not a Gop bafoons party phony like Lyin Ryan and the phony romney the tax cheat !!!
