Convention floor chaos: Democrats alter platform, disagree

Charlotte, North Carolina(CNN) – In a rare display of just how quickly a tightly scripted national political convention can unwind, Democrats on Wednesday struggled to complete a voice vote amending their party platform to include language referring to Jerusalem and God.

It took three attempts from Democratic National Convention Chairman Antonio Villaraigosa before the platform was amended, and a loud chorus of delegates yelling "no" met each attempt to pass the changes by voice vote.

BREAKING: DEMOCRATS TO UPDATE PLATFORM WITH JERUSALEM REFERENCE… Democrats will update their party's platform Wednesday evening at their convention to include a reference to Jerusalem being the capital of Israel, which was not included in their platform this year but was in previous platforms, Democratic sources told CNN. The vote is expected to take place by acclamation shortly after the convention is gaveled in to order at 5 p.m. ET, the sources said. – Jessica Yellin

THE TIMES THEY ARE A-CHANGIN': Obama-Bill Clinton relationship unthinkable four years ago: Over the past few months, Bill Clinton has provided the Obama campaign with some accidental aggravations, displaying an unsettling tendency to drift off-message and derail narratives. He's used language that seemed to put some daylight between his and Obama's positions on tax cuts while the spotlight was on the president's policy, and he praised Mitt Romney's business record while it served as a central line of attack. Yet Obama aides say they're not concerned. – Rebecca Sinderbrand

Emanuel says he'll be more 'helpful' in fund-raising role

Charlotte, North Carolina (CNN) – Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel said in a CNN interview Wednesday he'll provide greater assistance to President Barack Obama's re-election bid by assuming a fund-raising role with the super PAC Priorities USA than he would as a co-chairman of Obama's campaign, a position he has relinquished.

Emanuel will assist the Democratic group raise money ahead of November's general election, and attempt to close the gap between Priorities, which brought in $10 million in August, and Republican-aligned groups, which have brought in much higher totals. Emanuel's interview will appear on "The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer" at 6 p.m. ET.

Just in: Democrats update platform with Jerusalem, God reference

(CNN) - Democrats voted to update their party's platform Wednesday evening at their convention to include a reference to Jerusalem being the capital of Israel, as well as the insertion of the word "God," neither of which was included in their platform this year but was in previous platforms.

President Barack Obama himself intervened regarding the Jerusalem language, a senior Democratic source told CNN, adding, that he thought the original draft was "a strong statement and he didn't want there to be any confusion about his unshakeable commitment to the security of state israel. The issue of the day is Iran, Hamas and Hezbollah."

Wednesday night to feature Clinton, Warren

Charlotte, North Carolina (CNN) - Former President Bill Clinton's convention speech Wednesday night may be rooted in the former president's own re-election bid from 1996, a time when Clinton pushed similar narratives as President Barack Obama's current campaign slogan to move the country "forward."

"There are some thematic echoes between the two presidents," a senior campaign official said while speaking with CNN reporters covering the convention in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Ann Romney challenges women to 'wake up'
