Romney campaign responds to Clinton DNC speech

(CNN) - GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney's campaign issued a statement after former President Bill Clinton's address to the Democratic National Convention on Tuesday night, saying Clinton "drew a stark contrast between himself and President Obama."

"Bill Clinton worked with Republicans, balanced the budget, and after four years he could say you were better off," Romney campaign spokesman Ryan Williams wrote. "Barack Obama hasn’t worked across the aisle – he’s barely worked with other Democrats – and has the worst economic record of any president in modern history.

"President Clinton’s speech brought the disappointment and failure of President Obama’s time in office clearly into focus,” Williams continued.

When President Obama TRIED to work across the aisle – which took away from the first two years in office – The Republicans REFUSED to – You want to know WHY? "Our goal is to make President Obama a one-term president..." PERIOD!!

President Obama has laid the foundation and now all that is left is to BUILD ON IT!!! We are NOT losing jobs – we need training for the many jobs that are out there and the ONLY ONE WE CAN TRUST is President Obama to finish building that house – The Republicans can’t even offer the NAILS or the HAMMER to help!!!

The republican response TOTALLY rewrites history. Clinton fought the republicans in order to balance the budget and they hated him so much for it they impeached him. Save the middle class- vote for Obama.

The blogger obviously did not listen to the speech, namely where it was pointed out that Obama appointed REPUBLICANS to his cabinet. I would say that is making the effort to "reach across the aisle". Then again, as Ryan said "we won't let our campaign be dictated by fact checkers".

Unfortunately what comes out of the Romney/Ryan campaign has to be checked because it is so frequently full of holes.

Nice try but Clinton was spot on.. the republican mess could not be cleaned up in 4 years working with a republican Senate and congress that fillabustered ... voted down and said HELL NO to every attempt Obama made to fix the economy... their one and only goal stated thru out the last four years was make this president fail at any cost to our country

It won't matter, liberals are unable to differentiate between Obama and Clinton. They look at them both and think: "they're on my team!" It's all about being divisive. The Us vs. Them mentality has come to rule both parties.

Come on - Bill nailed it! He explained things in detail - trying not to sugar coat or disguise things. This speech has likely confirmed the re-election of Obama....thank the lord!

Mitt, you are a habitual liar, and people are starting to see the truth.
I can't wait for the debates, I hope PRESIDENT Obama calls you a LIAR right there in front of all the American people.
You will try to deflect with "Obama crushed America with debt" or "Obama hasn't created jobs", but we will see through your shananigans.
Concede now, and save yourself the embarassment...

Yes Mr Wilson, if you say Obama is a failure enough times, people will start to believe it. Don't try to dilute your message with any real substance to support it. Just takes some financial numbers out of context, and keep repeating Obama is a failure. It actually seems to be working to some degree.

Guess Romney missed the details in Clinton's speech.

What Bill Clinton did tonight was draw a stark contrast between all the bald face lies, non-existant arithmetic, winner-takes-all mentality of the Romney campaign and the truth! Talk about eviscerating the Romney campaign's arguments! If Obama is good enough for Bill he's good enough for me!

►"Bill Clinton worked with Republicans, balanced the budget, and after four years he could say you were better off,"◄

President Obama STOPPED a depression – Jobs are no longer being lost at a rate of 800,000 a month – 4.5 million jobs were created – ObamaCare was passed – So, it is SAFE to say that AMERICA is better off than it was 4 years ago – NOW, it's up to the "individuals" to reelect President Obama so they can take advantage of his educational proposal to get you trained so that you can GRAB one of those 3 million jobs that are out there!!

So Romney's spokesman makes a statement about the speech reminding us that the budget was balanced until Republicans took back the White House, while ignoring everything else Bill Clinton actually said. Another brilliant move from Romney's campaign.

Was the Romney campiagn watching the same Bill Clinton speech I saw? Their rebuttal is weak. Bill Clinton tore apart the Repbulican/Roomeny attacks on Pres. Obama in a systematic and clear manner. I think it would have been better for the Romney campaign to keep quiet than offer this weak, nonsensical rebuttal.
