(CNN) - President Barack Obama, in his speech at the Democratic National Convention Thursday, will lay out a "choice between two fundamentally different visions for the future," according to advance excerpts released by his campaign.
Read more excerpts after the jump.
"But when all is said and done – when you pick up that ballot to vote – you will face the clearest choice of any time in a generation. Over the next few years, big decisions will be made in Washington, on jobs and the economy; taxes and deficits; energy and education; war and peace – decisions that will have a huge impact on our lives and our children's lives for decades to come.
"On every issue, the choice you face won't be just between two candidates or two parties.
"It will be a choice between two different paths for America.
"A choice between two fundamentally different visions for the future.
"I won't pretend the path I'm offering is quick or easy. I never have. You didn't elect me to tell you what you wanted to hear. You elected me to tell you the truth. And the truth is, it will take more than a few years for us to solve challenges that have built up over decades. It will require common effort, shared responsibility, and the kind of bold, persistent experimentation that Franklin Roosevelt pursued during the only crisis worse than this one. And by the way – those of us who carry on his party's legacy should remember that not every problem can be remedied with another government program or dictate from Washington.
"But know this, America: Our problems can be solved. Our challenges can be met. The path we offer may be harder, but it leads to a better place. And I'm asking you to choose that future. I'm asking you to rally around a set of goals for your country – goals in manufacturing, energy, education, national security, and the deficit; a real, achievable plan that will lead to new jobs, more opportunity, and rebuild this economy on a stronger foundation. That's what we can do in the next four years, and that's why I'm running for a second term as President of the United States."
In his speech, Obama will set a series of goals on jobs, energy and the deficit. Here is what the campaign says Obama will lay out in his speech:
-Create one million new manufacturing jobs by the end of 2016
-Double exports by the end of 2014
-Cut net oil imports in half by 2020
-Support 600,000 natural gas jobs by the end of the decade
-Cut the growth of college tuition in half over the next 10 years
-Recruit 100,000 math and science teachers over the next 10 years
-Train two million workers for real jobs at community colleges
-Invest in the economy with the money we’re no longer spending on war
-Reduce the deficit by more than $4 trillion over the next decade
I do like what I read here from Obama's speech. Americans are through with government economic experiments and waiting years for economic recovery. Enough is enough. Let's go with proven economics executed by people who know what they are doing, with the right experience and a successful track record. Romney/ Ryan 2012.
Plain and Simple: The United States of America can not afford another 4 years of Obama.
Obama's path equals everyone depends on the Government
Romney – Ryan 2012!
Thanks for showing us the speech before it even happens. Fantastic journalism.
"choice between two fundamentally different visions for the future" – both end at the same place – over the cliff.
I like the path we are on going forward ,not he path we came from under the gop nations party .all you have to do is look at their lieing super package ads and their low life canadates ,romney the tax cheat and lyin Ryan and the house of representatives gop and the path is clear ,dems forward gop backwards!!!!
I like the comments so far.
Sounds Obama and Romney are trying to out grim one another. I was so hopeful after yesterday and now your telling me its going to be difficult. Clinton completely obliterated the opponent as a viable option and this speech seems to concede room for an opponent. I guess he won't be on the attack tonight. I don't like the idea of selling a plan with 50 days left in an election.
OBAMA, OBAMA, OBAMA!!!!
will the new jobs he is promising be the same low paying 4.5 million jobs he has created over his 1st 4 years
Hey Obama...We had 4 years of your way and its been a complete disaster...Now all of a sudden you think you found the way to a booming economy...I think not!
We can not afford to repeat the last 4 years. What he is trying to sell; I am not buying!
You don't vote for change. YOU FIGHT FOR IT!!!!!!! GO OBAMA!!!!!!!!!!!! We are ready for the fight. There is no longer a GOP, there are only Baggers, and we know who you are.
This is the way FORWARD! OBAMA BIDEN 2012
Down with Obama. We have had enough of Obama. Obama has destroyed our nation. Obama despises God and anyone religious. God will help Romney win the election because he is a good and caring man with a pure heart.
-Cut the growth of college tuition in half over the next 10 years
The best way NOT to do this? Is to make lots of cheap money readily available to every kid who wants to go to college. For instance, what do you think the tuition would get to if every kid graduating high school received an interest-free $200,000 loan for college? I'll give you a hint. $50,000 a year. ( do the math, Bubba ). Then we would end up with a bunch of college graduates with $200,000 of debt to start their lives off with. Not what we want to create.
Don – Isn't it close to your monthly hand-out from the government....liboturd
Why not a third path? vote Gary Johnson.
Just like Slick Willie said last night, "If you want someone who will burn down American from the inside, Barry's your guy!" Obama is right, the choice is clear..we can have 4 more years of Obama's bloated government plan with more people on welfare/food stamps or we can get America back on the right track.
Simple, do you want to "Belong To The Government" <-(Democrats OWN words) or be FREE?
I choose FREEDOM.
President has a clear vision where America would be in the next 4 years;
move FORWARD. You lead, we follow, together, America will be the best country again.
Obama you got my vote.
I think luckjoe and Paul are at the wrong forum. Obama is offering an actual plan whereas Romney never even defined his agenda on job growth, deficit reduction. Republican tax cuts cannot be paid for from the backs of the common American.
Sorry but Obama's plan involves sound economics, civil rights expansion, sound enrivornmental stewartship and a moral way to relate to the rest of the world. On the other hand the other side offers protection for the extremely wealthy, diminishion of civil rights and will probably get us into a bunch of wars. Ask yourself if a Martian was running against Romney and Romney said just that he was offering exactly what I just said he was offering would you still vote for Romney or would you vote for the Martian? What is more important voting for someone who goes to your church and looks like you or voting for your children's and their children's future?
