Obama to set jobs, deficit, energy goals in acceptance speech

(CNN) - President Barack Obama will set a goal of creating 1 million new manufacturing jobs over the next four years and doubling exports during the next two years, according to excerpts of his speech to the Democratic National Convention released Thursday.

Excerpts: Obama to lay out 'clearest choice of any time in a generation'

He will set a goal of reducing the deficit by more than $4 trillion over the next 10 years, according to the excerpts. Obama will also set a goal of halving net oil imports by the year 2020 and supporting 600,000 natural gas jobs by the end of the decade.

As part of a number of goals President Barack Obama will outline in his formal acceptance speech on Thursday, he will aim to cut the growth of college tuition in half over 10 years, according to excerpts released by the campaign.

The way to create more manufacturing jobs is easy. Stop burdening American manufacturing companies with the highest tax costs in the developed world and ineffective but costly regulations wrought from knee-jerk political decisions. Guaranteed, if the federal government does it's part, American manufacturing companies will do their part. They need support like this, not an adversarial government making political points and choosing winners.

What's the point of setting goals if he has no intention of meeting them? Haven't you guys learned that this guy says one thing and then goes and does another?

President Obama should speak the truth and we as Democrats need to accept the fact that we may need to sacrifice a few things. But I am sure it will not be to our disadvantage!! REMEMBER: The foundation is already built and all we need now is the house!!

  9. Mitt Romney, He`ll Say Aynthing To Get Elected

Perhaps this will embarass Romnwy into putting forth some specific that have been lacking. Romney lacks the leadership chops of the President.

He actually thinks his "TrustMe, I`ll tell you AFTER I get elected" posture will be successful.

Mitt we don`t trust you. Show us your tax returns.

I don't think Obama understands what a deficit is, or that you can't cut deficits by continuing to spend money like it's going out of style. While we are it, someone should explain to him what a budget is.

So Obama still won't give solar system owners retail prices for their Kwh's produced, they must give it all to their regional power utility at wholesale.

Let me get this right, I purchase equipment, Pay for the installation on my home and then give it away to the local utility at below wholesale prices, "Avoided Cost". And I should be happy about that! Do Democrats get it?

By law I have to give my Green Kwh's to the local Coal Fired Central Utility at .02cts per Kwh, they turn around and sell it at .12ct per Kwh and I should be happy about it?

If Obama has an once of energy courage he would allow the little guy access to the national grid! And let us wheel electricity on a free and open market. The existing laws and rules only make the government more powerful and the central energy producers.

American manufacturing went offshore because those locations are not "burdened" with any environmental regulations, they use child labor, pay starvation wages, have no regulations regulating trade, often use inferior or unhealthy materials, and use government-sponsored subsidies to create an uneven playing field. We also created tax laws to encourage offshore investment and reward moving manufacturing offshore. We like cheap stuff and we buy it.

Our real future is in renewable energy technology, communications and travel innovation, medical technology, environmental protection, space technology, agricultural technology, and information technology. We must leave 1950 behind and once again become a nation of a strong, educated middle class. We must break the cycle of poverty and once again be the leader in standard of living, education and health. This is not Fox News vs. MSNBC. This is about the real future of America. Being a "liberal" or a "winger" is foolish and counter-productive.

Our Congress couldn't even compromise enough to pass a cyber-security law to protect the grid. The President has been quite bold in energy inovation vs. a Republican Congress who only believes in "drill, drill, drill!".

The President spent to prevent a deep Depression – and it worked. The Bush economy left us on the precipice of disaster and the spending packages saved us from going over the cliff. You might remember President Bush... the President who issued the first of the bailouts? Monday-morning -quarterbacking is easy. This was a Republican recession and they've never manned-up to the problem but instead, worked to prevent recovery.

So can you sell your excess Kwh on your own grid? Obama hasn't even attempted any real fight!
