Ann Romney defers same-sex marriage, birth control questions to husband

(CNN) – Ann Romney adamantly stayed on message when asked in an interview with an Iowa television station about same-sex marriage and whether employer-provided health insurance should cover birth control, deferring questions on such issues to the GOP nominee.

Mrs. Romney told KWQC via satellite Friday morning that her message to voters was to trust Mitt Romney to bring the country a sound economic future. But when asked her views on contentious social issues Mrs. Romney firmly adhered to the GOP's economic message and declined to answer.

"I'm not going to talk about the specific issues. I'm going to let my husband speak on issues," said Mrs. Romney adding that such topics are a distraction from the focus of the election and what the Republican nominee's wife says women voters want to talk about-jobs and the economy.

When asked if she believes employer-provided health insurance should be required to cover birth control, Mrs. Romney said, "Again, you're asking me questions that are not about what this election is going to be about. This election is going to be about the economy and jobs."

Republican candidate's wife, a powerful and effective surrogate to her husband's presidential efforts, insisted that the campaign's message was focused on fixing the economy, period.

"So really if you want to try to pull me off of the other messages it's not going to work because I know because I've been out there," said Mrs. Romney.

Bless her heart she is way in over her head. I thought she said that Modern Family is her favorite tv show she watches.
Tell us what you think Mrs. Romney because we want to know. There is no such thing as being pulled off message when you want to occupy The White House it is called reality.

Refusing to voice your opinion is why Mitt and now his wife will not connect with the average person. There was an approprite way to answer questions like that and still stay on message. Reallly sad.....

Wow, your husband has to tell you what to say about issues concerning yourself and other women? Sorry, Mrs. Romney, you're a terrible role model for women and young girls.

Well, that's because she Loves Women, but that doesn't necessarily mean that she, as a woman is allowed to have an opinion about women issues....She's Republican. Good girl Ann, step in line. "Mitt, honey, what did THEY tell us to say about this? Uh..he, he, ummmm; Vote for Mitt, 'Cause We Deserve to Live in the White House! Now here's my husband, he'll tell you what to think."

If this election is about the economy and jobs why doesn't Mitts speak about how he is going he is going to magically create worldwide demand for products and services for all American business. Romney has never mentioned how he is going to take over the American economy and Bain it to death until it starts working again.I sometimes wonder if Romney is aware that being President does not allow you to control the supply and demand of US goods and services. If they Republicans think that worn out lie about lower taxes for the rich is going to create jobs is going to fly with voters they are in for a big time loss

Ann Romney is completely clueless, and it's on purpose make no mistake. This isn't some blond bimbo. She knows exactly what she is doing and it has little to do with the common good, and the good government it requires. The whole purpose of the Norquist tax pledge is to weaken govt so the White Horse Romney can usher in the new theocratic oligarchy. The Tell? Zero GOP governing achievements on which to run.

Ann Romney knows very well birth control IS economic security, and she'll have none of it.

Ann has never been fond of 'you people.' Gays, women, immigrants, poor people, the homeless, the needy, the uninsured, and the middle class are 'you people' as well.

Mittens could not even thank the troops in Afghanistan in his acceptance speech. Mittens does not get it, he is not one of us. Perhaps his hiding in France to avoid Viet Nam makes him a foreigner.

This is unbelievable. They send her out to draw the women's vote, and she defers one of the most important issues concerning woman to her husband! She is not prepared to discuss issues concerning women.

Women of America, Ann Romney thinks that social issues that concern you are a "distraction." Your health and well being are a distraction. I thought you "loved women" Mrs. Romney? Women are capable enough to be concerned with more than one issue at a time. To imply otherwise is down right insulting!

Women issue is not important for Ann by default for Mitt. Stop asking "you people"

I'd like to suggest that we the people will determine the important issues in this election, and not whatever Ann and the Bishop decide, bless their hearts.

The Romney's have yet to prove they are ready for Primetime! This is getting ridiculous. All jokes aside, I am trying to give them the benefit of doubt. Her husband' s rebuttal for not acknowledging the military during his acceptance speech at the RNC and not giving specifics for their policies is wearing thin at my patience.

Dont repubs understand that financial and social issues are many times interdependent . Womens access to good reproductive health . and the ability to have choices can have an economy wide social economic impact . in family impact , education , ability to work and mental health issues. The same with gays if they think they arent accepted as fully part of society then have family break downs, suicides , drug/alcohol issue .young children in divorced families , and gays/lesbians not fulfilling their full potential. These can be major economic factors resulting from poorly handled social issues.
