Ann Romney defers same-sex marriage, birth control questions to husband

(CNN) – Ann Romney adamantly stayed on message when asked in an interview with an Iowa television station about same-sex marriage and whether employer-provided health insurance should cover birth control, deferring questions on such issues to the GOP nominee.

Mrs. Romney told KWQC via satellite Friday morning that her message to voters was to trust Mitt Romney to bring the country a sound economic future. But when asked her views on contentious social issues Mrs. Romney firmly adhered to the GOP's economic message and declined to answer.

"I'm not going to talk about the specific issues. I'm going to let my husband speak on issues," said Mrs. Romney adding that such topics are a distraction from the focus of the election and what the Republican nominee's wife says women voters want to talk about-jobs and the economy.

When asked if she believes employer-provided health insurance should be required to cover birth control, Mrs. Romney said, "Again, you're asking me questions that are not about what this election is going to be about. This election is going to be about the economy and jobs."

Republican candidate's wife, a powerful and effective surrogate to her husband's presidential efforts, insisted that the campaign's message was focused on fixing the economy, period.

"So really if you want to try to pull me off of the other messages it's not going to work because I know because I've been out there," said Mrs. Romney.

How can you trust someone that does not have a plan or wont tell people his plans? Romney will distroy America for the wealthy. All they care about is how much they can sell America for.! Not, 1 bit about Americans.

President is responsible to deal with all issues that pertain to the country and its subjects. If Mrs. Romney cannot answer questions for her husband, he will have to stretch himself to every place to answer the questions, or miss out. If she is campaigning for him, she should be able to explain his positions and standings.

Well, Mitt's specialty at Bain was destroying American jobs while President Obama has presided over more than two years of solid job growth. Is that what she means when she says this election is about jobs?

And Ann Romney knows her husband best – Could you imagine the public asking Michelle questions about her husband in regards to policies and she NOT having the answers??? Michelle WILL have the answers – which is the reason why she's our FLOTUS now and will be after 2012!!!

Poor gal....she's missing a lot of the problems but a lot self pride and satisfaction as well!!!!!I I pity her!!

Way wrong, Ann. Way wrong. Women DO want to know about healthcare and reproductive issues. Too bad you probably didn't watch the Democratic convention. You could have learned a lot.

Problem is, her husband has too many different views on "issues," depending on who he's talking to and when.

Regarding Mittens' ability to help our economy, all he knows is making short-term profits for himself and his cronies at the long-term expense of the folks who actually work for a living.

No thanks, Mrs. Mittens. Been there, done that – and it's all a proven failure.

Mitt has to check the wind direction before he answers, he only has 360 positions on the issues.

So what does she have the authority to speak about, home economics for the millionairess? She looks like a nice person, but she is way out of her element in trying to relate to the average American.

The arrogance of this woman is amazing to me. Can you imagine sitting down in front of your potential employers and telling
them, " we talk about what I want to talk about", not what you want to know. I used to hire a lot of people but I can tell you, her interview would have been a short one.

They don't want you to think about social issues because no matter what issues are important to you and how you feel about them there is one thing that is true: the next time the Republicans control both houses of Congress and the White House, ALL abortions and many forms of contraception will be outlawed.

These type of answers by Ann Romney makes one think her another aging bimbo with no clue. I thought it was Mr. Romney throwing punches at the democrats hiding behind her skirt until now. To be first lady one to have some conviction on sociial issues is also important even when the man is not with her.

The republican War on Women is very much at issue in this election. Unlike you Ann, most women want to have control over their own bodies so that they aren't suffering through one miscarriage after another when they're past 40 with five healthy sons. Were you and Mitt trying to compete with Santorum and Palin by trying to produce a physically or mentally damaged child. My heart goes out to people with children who have birth defects, except when the parents chose to keep having children long past the point when they should have stopped. Then I only feel sorry for the child. Obviously as a dutiful Mormon wife, you hubby doesn't want you to make those choices.

Let me be specific then, Queen Ann - your husband won't be getting my vote.

Ann, honey, listen up. Behind your husband's pious smile is a man with a heart made of stone, showing America a pettiness of character that is beyond contempt. Without a doubt you already know this, which is why you yourself probably aren't as good a spokesperson for Mitt as you (and Mitt) think you are.
