(CNN) – Ann Romney adamantly stayed on message when asked in an interview with an Iowa television station about same-sex marriage and whether employer-provided health insurance should cover birth control, deferring questions on such issues to the GOP nominee.
Mrs. Romney told KWQC via satellite Friday morning that her message to voters was to trust Mitt Romney to bring the country a sound economic future. But when asked her views on contentious social issues Mrs. Romney firmly adhered to the GOP's economic message and declined to answer.

"I'm not going to talk about the specific issues. I'm going to let my husband speak on issues," said Mrs. Romney adding that such topics are a distraction from the focus of the election and what the Republican nominee's wife says women voters want to talk about-jobs and the economy.
When asked if she believes employer-provided health insurance should be required to cover birth control, Mrs. Romney said, "Again, you're asking me questions that are not about what this election is going to be about. This election is going to be about the economy and jobs."
Republican candidate's wife, a powerful and effective surrogate to her husband's presidential efforts, insisted that the campaign's message was focused on fixing the economy, period.
"So really if you want to try to pull me off of the other messages it's not going to work because I know because I've been out there," said Mrs. Romney.

So ann, if you aren't there to answer womens questions what are you there for? You are not first lady material. Move out of the way and go home.
SAD!!!! This lady is just talking politics and not real concern about people.
"Again, you're asking me questions that are not about what this election is going to be about. This election is going to be about the economy and jobs."
Sorry, you don't get to choose what the election is going to be about. It might have been about the economy and jobs, except for the back-to-the-past mentality of the GOP on social issues, civil rights, the environment and business regulation. These are not trivial concerns. They directly affect how people live. I'm not voting for the reinstatement of 1955.
Ah... A good Morman (more for men) wife
Awwww, there's a good Stepford Wife. Tell us Ann, what exactly IS your WORKING experience?
Ann Romney,
Congratulations for ruining any chances your husband had of growing his base with women. If you are so weak and scared to render an opinion then please get off the campaign trail. Whatever one may think of Michelle Obama, she at least has the backbone to answer questions about issues.
Let me ask you this question Mrs. Romney. Do you believe that women should have the right to vote or do you refuse to answer that question too? Maybe you prefer all women just shut up, stay home, and do whatever their husbands tell them to do.
Sorry Ms. Romney, don't trust pants-on-fire Mitt Romney.
Both Romney and Ryan have backed a personhood amendment that would outlaw contraceptives for women and want to get rid of Planned Parenthood.
Romney/Ryan would take away women's ability to make their own decisions and economic planning for their families.
I hope that this non working woman continues not to answer the hard questions and continues to try to tell us about her hard life after marrying a millionaire! After all just ask your parents for $10K or sell some of your stock when you were young were an option which you took faster than you can say – bye, bye on November 6th!
I wouldn't trust your husband to help a blind man cross the street. He's a liar, a tax cheat with no character, no morals, no ethics and no backbone. You are confirming what we already know the teapublikkklans don't want women to have a voice or a thought all her own. You are a pathetic excuse for women all over the world.
Yes, you have certainly been out there and, once again, WOMEN DON'T LIKE YOU!!!
Go girl! It IS ONLY about the economy and jobs. Without a job, women don't give a hoot about the rest....
LOL. Romney so wishes the election were held 3 months ago! Maybe, he's thinking after Nov he can go back and retroactively change the results!
GOP should have backed Jon Huntsman. But, he was too level-headed for the tea party.
Since I'm a woman who's been avidly following the election & the issues put forth, let's take the subjects that affect women most! Jobs, economy, education for our children, access to affordable healthcare, employer provided insurance that meets womens needs! She doesn't want to discuss most of that!? And she is the Romney/Ryan advocate for women!? Reading between the lines I see that Mrs. Romney may have differing view's than her husband, but deferal to him & their party subjugates those views! Right there, they have lost me because I "severely" believe in womens rights & voice & can't take a woman seriously, who feels it necessary to "defer" to the patriarchy! Ann, we need all I listed above, plus civil & human rights for our gay friends! Subjugation & Discrimination are History! Forward to the Future, Obama/Nov 6!
Old lady romney the tax cheat is just another lyin gop stooge with no answers accept for the usually gop lies and bs,she should be thrown in jail with her tax cheat husband !!!!!
Even before the story about the group that says they hacked Mitt Romney's tax returns. (I doubt it thought) I was telling my wife that if something was going to be leaked regarding Mitt's returns it would be on Friday September 28 (just like the hackers said) because this would be the Friday before the 1st Presidential Debate. By doing it on this date, the whole weekend would be consumed by this story and would go into Monday....It would throw Romney off his debate scheduled because he would have to answer to what is in the returns. If something is going to happen, this will be the date.
Amen! The Democrats and Liberal media are trying desperately to change the subject to mislead uninformed voters. I don't understand why they would do this when they know that it is dangerous for our country if we don't get the economy turned around.
I guess they will finally start understanding the urgency when they are out of a job!
Ann likes white wine and canapes. Ann likes sailing and massages. Ann doesn't like tough questions from the peasants. Ann needs a facial now and will be retiring to the den. Please keep the noise down, thank-you.
Hate to say it, this person comes across as fake as her husband. Now she has a new-found empathy for women and mothers. Notice her husband and his running mate suddenly beginning to prefix their vitriol against Obama with the fleeting phrase, "He's a good man". And instantly, the "BUT" takes over. They think they are talking to stupid people. Are you stupid, citizens of the USA?
Ann Romney being the good little Mormon wife, does not have a mind of her own, and can not speak for herself.
It's not just about the economy when, along with that, the candidate proposes changing things that affect the personal lives of people in major ways. If Mrs. Romney doesn't get that, she might as well go back to riding her horse and leave the election to the grown ups..
You mean Mrs. Romney cannot express her personal feelings on the issues? What is wrong wiith this picture? She and her husband are nice but they are also very evasive people. I just do not trust Romneyhood period. It seems to me that the GOP has promised to make Romneyhood's dream come true , but the catch is that Romneyhood has to sign whatever comes across his desk. Wake up America!!!!! Where are those Tax Returns!!!! What are his plans and policy besides business experience!!!!!!!!Why did he have overseas accounts!!!! Besides his inheritance, how did he grow his finances!!!!! I would rather grow slow and steady with President Obama than Romneyhood who would destroy the progress that has already been made and put us in a free fall again.
First Romney has to debate with Romney
Then he has to debate with Ann Romney
Then he has to debate with Paul Ryan
Then let us know where he stand
Did she ride in on her horse that is worth a $77,000.00 tax deduction??
Oh brother, Mrs. Mittens you're just as bad as your husband.
Ann Romney sickens me to look at her. She is hard to look at, let alone listen to her babble
We don't talk about that... or tax returns! How about horses?
