Hustler magazine offers $1 million for a different type of exposure

(CNN) - A magazine known for its sexually explicit material is offering a reward of $1 million dollars for a different type of bare-all expose.

The publisher of Hustler magazine, Larry Flynt, is offering the sum for the skinny on GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney's financials, the magazine announced.

- Check out the CNN Electoral Map and Calculator and game out your own strategy for November.

It is taking out full-page advertisements in two newspapers - The Washington Post on Sunday, and USA Today on Tuesday - "offering up to a million dollars in cash for documented evidence concerning Republican Presidential candidate Mitt Romney's unreleased tax returns and/or details of his offshore assets, bank accounts and business partnerships," a press release from the magazine read.

Flynt's announcement could be seen as either an attempt to keep the issue of Romney's financial documents alive or put himself - and his magazine - in headlines.

Romney has released his tax returns for 2010 and an estimate of his 2011 tax liability, but has repeatedly said he would not release additional years, saying it would be fodder for Democrats to criticize him.

In recent months, various political figures, including some Republicans, have called for more transparency from Romney.

Earlier in the week, an anonymous online poster claimed it was holding stolen tax documents belonging to Romney ransom for $1 million in an internet currency. Should the sum not be paid by later this month, the posting said a key to unlock the documents would be released publicly, while the financial firm from which the documents were allegedly stolen said there is "no evidence of unauthorized access to our data."

Maybe I should start a non profit organization to raise funds to pay for the tax returns. I'll bet I could get a lot more than $1M. I'll base the organization in the Caymans.

Is this all a joke? He should just release them. Not releasing them is only going to hurt him as we get closer to the election. Yeah, sure the dems will try to use them as fodder. But so would the republicans if the situation were reversed. That is what politics is. I wonder is there something there that will truly incriminate him? A reasonable person would ask that. I do like some of his ideas, but before I vote for him, I want to know what is in the returns. It just doesn't smell right.

This is an issue that Republicans , may want go away, but it will not. When Republicans start demanding transparency you know something is up. They don't want Democrats to do the same in the future and get away with it. They depend on using taxpayer money to fund their attacks on Democrats. You can't do that if your guilty of even more. Republicans are greedily counting the Tax money they will save under Romney's tax plan. Should they put it in a Swiss bank account ? Or invest in Derivatives ? ( they gamble on you losing) It's what caused last Crash.Either way Americans lose.

mitt is either hiding how he cheat America and the U.S. tax system and/or if he has nothing to hide, he is just simply demonstrating the level of transparency we can expect from him as well as his unwillingness to answer simple character of fitness questions in seeking the highest office in the land. Obama had nothing to hide and released 10 years of his tax returns.

um, this is probably illegal. enticing theft of Romney's non public information is something I'm sure could yield to some serious criminal charges. no different saying... if someone can break into his house and provide the tax returns, we'll give you a million. even guys like flint should have some freaking boundaries...

Any President that has something to hide – that selectively releases only 1 out of all his Tax Records over the years – is not someone we need in the Oval Office. We do not need another Nixon with secrets in his closet.

John Kerry, and extremely wealthy Democrat released only two years of taxes. There was no call by the media or Democrats for him to release more. In fact, Obama spoke at that convention and not one word about more taxes. John McCain only released two years, another wealthy guy. And no call at that time by canidate Obama or the media to release more taxes. Fast forward to today, Obama is in trouble and this tax issue has been drummed up to keep and the media (who gladly obliges) from talking about real issues like the bismal econmy. It's time the media start covering real issues like the fiscal cliff coming up, the disappointing 96k jobs last month, or bleak outlook for the coming months.
