Obama to young Hawaiian: 'You have a birth certificate?'

(CNN) - What does President Barack Obama ask when he meets another native of Hawaii?

About their birth certificate.

While campaigning in Florida on Saturday, the president stopped in at Gator Dockside, a Florida sports bar that boasts 19 big-screen televisions and 15 chicken-wing sauces. After grabbing a beer, shaking hands, and leading a chorus in singing “Happy Birthday,” Obama met someone from his home state.

"My young son," a woman said to the president, pointing across the table and conferring further with Obama.

"He's a Hawaiian!" Obama exclaimed, looking up to face Andre Wupperman, who now lives in Orlando and will turn 7 next week, according to pool reporters.

"Do you know how to do a shaka?" he asked, making the Hawaiian gesture with his thumb and pinky finger.

"You were born in Hawaii?" he asked the child next, then pointed at him. "Do you have a birth certificate?"

Behind Obama's grin and laughs from those nearby lie the conspiracy theories of some conservative Republicans, who maintain that Obama was not born in the United States, and is therefore not eligible to be president.

He released a certification of live birth during the 2008 campaign, and in the spring of 2011, released his long-form birth certificate. Both show that he was born in a Hawaii hospital on August 4, 1961. Contemporaneously published newspaper announcements also noted the birth in the Aloha State. Only "natural born" citizens of the United States are eligible to be president.

Among the highest-profile "birthers," as they are known, are Donald Trump and Sheriff Joe Arpaio. Arpaio, the top law enforcement officer in Maricopa County, Arizona, earlier this year held a press conference to announce findings of an investigation he led into documents.

Trump, who has endorsed and fund-raised for GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney, threw a wrench into the Republican candidate's messaging this summer with tweets and comments, including on CNN's "The Situation Room," skeptical of Obama's birthplace.

And Romney himself raised the issue two weeks ago. At a rally in his home state of Michigan, Romney made what he later claimed was a joke about his own birth certificate.

"Ann was born at Henry Ford hospital, I was born at Harper hospital," he said. "No one has ever asked to see my birth certificate. They know that this is the place that we were born and raised."

In an interview later that day, Romney said, "This was fun about us and coming home, and humor - you know, we've got to have a little humor in the campaign as well."

Humor needs a punch line.

And Saturday in Florida, Obama was laughing.

It's a shame the President couldn't just enjoy meeting the boy without having to add a political comment that obviously the boy wouldn't know anything about.

With the quality of domestic presidents we've had over the last few decades, perhaps we ought to look into an import.

Obama has to go tougher on Communist China. Even though China's economy is growing, I do not agree that we should treat equally as Germany, or France. China IS equal to Nazi Germany (of the past), or even worse. People of China are not free. I see it as immoral to deal with China, while it is suppresses its citizens. (i am a democrat, even though I do not like Romney specifically, but he may get my vote just based on the fact that he will treat China as a totalitarian regime as it should be)

The forms were found to be forged. The white house claimed they were authentic. Even the Social security number is a fraud. What more do you need? You want to live a lie, that is fine. but if it affects me, then I want to only deal with truth honesty and reality. (or as close as possible) If you are a lier then get punished, deported or tossed in jail.
    0h, bummer.

He was born in Kenya, and as soon as he was born his mother jumped on a plane and filed his birth in Hawaii. Just ask his Grandmother or Great Aunt or whoever it was that told everyone that he technically was born in Kenya. Filing your birth record in Hawaii does not make you born in Hawaii. Everyone who has gone over his long birth record says it is digitalized, and is a fake. Who was the doctor who delivered him? That would tell the true story, unless, of course the doctor is lying just like everyone else. Obama is a fraud.

why does the media keep pushing this issue anyway the meaning of natural born is eligible for US citizenship by birth....Obama's mother was born in Kansas making her a US citizen and the law says any child born to a US citizen parent is a citizen at birth so you birthers can either tell me I'm wrong and show me where the law says I'm wrong or SHUT UP

"He released a certification of live birth..."

No, he released his birth certificate. Birth certificates from the state of Hawaii happen to say "certification of live birth" at the top of the form; that fact does not make them anything other than birth certificates. I would have expected better of CNN than to buy into these ridiculous birther word games.

When Obama does win, the temper tantrum that far right is going to throw, will be even more insufferable than the way they carry on right now.

"Behind Obama's grin and laughs from those nearby lie the conspiracy theories of some conservative Republicans, who maintain that Obama was not born in the United States, and is therefore not eligible to be president."

Let's not forget that this conspiracy was concocted by Hillary Clinton supporters in 2008 in order to sway Democrats to vote for her in the primaries.
