Romney, Obama to speak at Clinton Global Initiative

(CNN) – Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney and President Barack Obama will speak at the Clinton Global Initiative in New York City later this month, former President Bill Clinton announced Monday.

"I'm grateful that President Obama and Governor Romney are taking time to join leaders from all parts of society who choose to address our greatest global challenges through the Clinton Global Initiative," said Clinton, who created the Clinton Foundation.

The event, held September 23-25, will feature discussions and programs that aim to improve conditions for girls and women, spur development, and better global health and technology.

Other speakers include Queen Rania Al Abdullah of Jordan, Mexico President Felipe Calderon, and former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice.

Sen. John McCain also spoke at the conference four years ago when he ran for president, bringing along with him running mate Sarah Palin (though she did not have a speaking role).

President Obama has also attended at the event for the last four years.

In recent days, Romney has been complimentary of Clinton, seeking to draw a contrast between the 42nd and 44th presidents as Clinton acts as a top surrogate of Obama. The former president delivered a rousing address for Obama during last week's Democratic convention in Charlotte, North Carolina.

"I think (Clinton) really did elevate the Democrat convention in a lot of ways and, frankly, the contrast may not have been as attractive as Barack Obama might have preferred if he were choosing who'd go before him and who'd go after him," Romney said in an interview that aired Sunday on NBC's "Meet the Press."

– CNN's Kevin Bohn and Ashley Killough contributed to this report.

screw the global initiative. all it does is lower the standard of living in the usa by taking our jobs. clinton after all signed nafta into law and started that giant sucking sound as ross peret accurately described it. it is time this country starts becoming more nationallistic. nobody else will look after our interests. these clowns are far more interested in eating our lunch.

All of a sudden Republicans love clinton, despite the fact they tried bringing him down. It took them this long to finally admit he was a good president? Geez. Maybe they see him as a threat

Romney can give an entire speech about the possibility of humanitarian efforts working in tandem with the SOVIET UNION, which he thinks still exist. Then again, perhaps he can expound on the inferiority of certain cultures. If he's going to embarrass us on the world stage, it's better he do it before the election, so we can make darn sure it doesn't happen after the election.

@Orlando – Yes in 12 years, they'll be trashing another Democratic nominee, saying he's not nearly as good or as moderate as Obama was in his two terms in the White House. You've go to love it – NOT!

Clinton crossed the aisle when he had to deal with Newt's Contract with America.
Obama has done the opposite. A directionless leader bent on division and accomplishing little...

OMG, Mitt to talk about womens rights???? I'm thinking he'll have to flip flop again, at least for the time he's speaking. I thnk this was Clinton's plan, to make Mitt look bad and Mitt can't even see it coming.

Whats he going to say, let the oceans rise, starve the poor, feed the rich. He already told us how he feel. I dont need to hear anymore of his comments he sounds just down right mean. He speaks down to people not to them while talking about them.

    Fascism = Corporatism.

Corporatism = when the top few corporations rule the meager and the low-paid grunts that do all the work.

Can't you see why republicans want to do away with a "minimum wage"? It's not to pay us more, it's to pay us less.

Corporatism (Fascism) is also commonly known as Autocracy (or Plutocracy).

They are all "similar", but the differences can mean life or death to someone without millions in savings. How much do you have in savings RIGHT NOW?

and any of the others that some folks throw out to make people seem "other" or "scarey". Knowledge is POWER.

Clinton was an average president who happened to be the beneficiary of good economic times, brought on primarily from the dot-com bubble, and twice blessed that the bubble burst after his successor took office.

It's common in someone 65 to have early symptoms of "early onset demential" or "early onset alzheimers". I'm not saying that is the case, but it's very common. He may just be overly-tired. He seems to need 3 days off every week. If we can't see tax records, I'm sure we won't get Doctor's records.
