No malarkey: Biden likes beer and firefighters

(CNN) – It wasn't a formal invitation, but it was an invitation nonetheless.

While attending a barbecue for firefighters in Shanksville, Pennsylvania, Tuesday, Vice President Joe Biden came across Brad Shober, the deputy fire chief, who he met at last year's ceremony commemorating the tenth anniversary of the September 11 terror attacks.

Biden, who also hosted Shober and other Shanksville firefighters at his residence in Washington last year, told the deputy chief and other firefighters assembled he wanted them to come back to the nation's capital for a second visit.

"He's going to call you, no bullshit," Biden said, pointing to an aide.

Noticing reporters, the vice president changed his terminology.

"This is no malarkey," Biden said. "You come to the White House. I'll buy you a beer."

Biden eventually found himself at the grill, where he helped himself to a hamburger with a slice of American cheese. His $20 donation to the firefighters also covered the lunch of Interior Secretary Ken Salazar, who, along with Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood, traveled to Shanksville with Biden.

Earlier in the day, the vice president spoke at a remembrance ceremony near the crash site of a flight hijacked on September 11, 2001 - eleven years ago Tuesday.

"What they did for this country is still etched in the minds of not only you, but millions of Americans forever," Biden said of passengers on Flight 93 who forced the hijackers to crash the plane believed headed for a suicide attack on the U.S. Capitol.

"At least with the President we know we're getting an incompetent socialist, Biden is like Forrest Gump's box of chocolates."

No doubt that was meant ... as everything coming from the right is meant ... as a slur on our President and Vice President? Got to tell you, though; been there, done that from you guys on the right. Not only are your talking points nothing but foolish jibber-jabber ... they are quite juvenille as well.

Larry just put it in words everyone should be able to understand if they can read. Romney/Ryan are in no way good for this country. Just listen to them speak and each and every time it is a contradiction of previous position, etc. I cannot trust a man for president who will not show his tax returns as others have. What is he hiding that he thinks everyone will just use against him – must be something. He he wants to be commander in chief I expect him to keep his money in the good ole USA. Just do not have trust for GOP this time. They will take us back further than Bush and I thought I would never see that possibility in my lifetime. Also if Romney was such a good businessman he should have hired a smarter campaign staff. They could not even direct a high school play. Pathetic!

  5. ThinkAgain: Mittens 'n' Munster are Liars

@Larry L in response to hangar13: Excellent post!

I would like to add that the individual mandate in the Affordable Healthcare Act requires most Americans to maintain "minimum essential" health insurance coverage. For individuals who are not exempt, and who do not receive health
insurance through an employer or government program, the means of satisfying the requirement
is to purchase insurance from a private company. (For those Fox viewers out there, "private company" means capitalist companies will make money.)

Again: PRIVATE COMPANY! This is why the individual mandate was a REPUBLICAN IDEA proposed by the
Heritage Foundation and introduced in 1993 by then-Senator Chaffee (with 20 Repub co-sponsors) in response to the Clinton health care reform proposal!

The individual mandate was first successfully implemented in 2006 by then-Gov. Mitt Romney in Massachusetts. It's a very success and popular program there. The reasoning was to make people take personal responsibility for their healthcare, to have skin in the game.

Newt Gingrich was a strong proponent of it, as well as Romney, before they and all the Repubs decided to spend all their time trying to defeat President Obama, regardless of the damage it has and will continue to do to our country.

    Obama/Biden 2012 = The only sane choice

    Stop talking smack about me.
All I'm doing is telling people what they what to hear.
So naturally it changes depending on who am talking to...what's so wrong with that?

You really need to put your thinkers cap on and turn off Fox blues. What do you think you are getting with Romney and Ryan.
Unfit Mitt who don't have a clue and Lyin Ryan, everything that rolls from his mouth is a LIE. If you don't know what you are getting from R&R than you are \l ????????.

Hate to tell all of you this but all of you who are so far to the Right that you search for words of the other side that you can BLOW UP just to justify your own warped opinions – you need Mental Health. But before those on the LEFT start smiling you should be on the couch with those people seeking mental health counseling. America needs people who are willing to listen to all the sides and not spew forth hatred and political dogma but rather base their decisions on what is best for the country as a whole. Also for our Politicians – please get back to legislating and being respectful and responsible and leave the Grandstanding to REALITY TV Personalities like Sarah Palin!

Firefighters – I wouldn't hold my breath for an invitation if I were you. Obama told the SEAL team who took out Bin Laden that he would be inviting them to "the residence" for a beer – according to the SEAL member's book who was released last week, it never happened. Also, Biden is very wealthy. A $20 donation for several people's lunches?? Pathetic!

I am looking forward to seeing Mitt Romney's medical records as well. I suspect that is going to be the real October surprise America is waiting for.

Joe Biden grew up working class. He doesn't have to pretend like Ryan and Romney to know what it's like and what the working class needs.

  17. Really?

TY – you've got it backwards. You obviously only know of the fake Romney your liberal media presents to you. Perhaps YOU should turn off the MSM and hear some truth.

A Vote for Romney/Ryan = Charity (with their own $$) rather than
Obama/Biden = stealing tax payer $$ for cronyism.

@Mitt Romney impersonator – doing exactly what his liberal media friends do – lie.

Ya gotta love it; Joe ain't always on message, but he's always Joe!

BTW, for those that are calling this race neck and neck, check the electoral college map. There's 110 votes in the toss-up states, and Obama only needs 33 of them. Florida and any one state will make it.

@ – Fair is Fair – If intelligence was dynamite, Biden wouldn't be able to blow his nose.

BTW... I thought crazy Joe didn't drink?
    ........................................................................... ..............................................................................................................
I've been reading your posts for quite awhile. "Fair is Fair" is quite a misnomer for you. "GOP Beach" is a better name for you. Joe Biden is a lot more likeable than Dick Cheney, who made my skin crawl. The only hope of getting us out of this mess is to reelect Obama/Biden. Romney/Ryan will just go back to using the same old policies that got us into this mess in the first place. Not smart!

Hah! You think Biden is bad, it will be much worse if Buster Blue eyes gets in. Ryan is a liar, not a mispeaker, a out-and-out liar. He would not know the truth if it ran up and bit him on the leg. If you think things are bad now, just go ahead and put R/R in office. They will go back to the same old policies that got us here in the first place. Also, bet on them starting a war somewhere. I am sick of seeing our brave troops coming home missing limbs, sick and cheated of their family life. The mess we are in will get better if we stay the course.
