(CNN) – It wasn't a formal invitation, but it was an invitation nonetheless.
While attending a barbecue for firefighters in Shanksville, Pennsylvania, Tuesday, Vice President Joe Biden came across Brad Shober, the deputy fire chief, who he met at last year's ceremony commemorating the tenth anniversary of the September 11 terror attacks.

Biden, who also hosted Shober and other Shanksville firefighters at his residence in Washington last year, told the deputy chief and other firefighters assembled he wanted them to come back to the nation's capital for a second visit.
"He's going to call you, no bullshit," Biden said, pointing to an aide.
Noticing reporters, the vice president changed his terminology.
"This is no malarkey," Biden said. "You come to the White House. I'll buy you a beer."
Biden eventually found himself at the grill, where he helped himself to a hamburger with a slice of American cheese. His $20 donation to the firefighters also covered the lunch of Interior Secretary Ken Salazar, who, along with Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood, traveled to Shanksville with Biden.
Earlier in the day, the vice president spoke at a remembrance ceremony near the crash site of a flight hijacked on September 11, 2001 - eleven years ago Tuesday.
"What they did for this country is still etched in the minds of not only you, but millions of Americans forever," Biden said of passengers on Flight 93 who forced the hijackers to crash the plane believed headed for a suicide attack on the U.S. Capitol.

Sniffit
"besides, local government pays for firefighters, no the feds."
Name me a state or municipality that functions entirely without the absolute necessity of federal money helping it make ends meet.
IT DOES NOT EXIST.
==============================================================================================
yes, a highly efficient model the government has going there. they take $100, keep $25 to pay for the massive federal bureacracy, then send $75 back to the original payers. local expenses should remain local and i'm sure you would agree because that would eliminate your bogus red state/blue state baloney. of course they won't do this because with money comes requirements to do as the feds demand to get your money back. time to stop the feds from doing what locals can do better.
Biden looks like my crazy old grandfather just before we had to have him committed. just sayin...
Romney prefers Dom Perignon and foreign bank presidents.
@truth hurts
You really need to quit sparing with Sniffit. Everybody who reads your comments realizes you're in way over your head. For your sake I hope you're a Jr. High with redneck parents and no girlfriends. At least you'd have an excuse...

Funny how that works. Biden actually reminds me of my father-in-law ... also from the Northeast ... whom I admire a great deal.
Biden is like talking to your Dad or grandfather – a straight shooter. Ryan is like talking to
bobbing head that just lies.
Pres Obama should be complemented for the bold actions he and his admin took to ebb the economic avalanche that permeated every aspect of American life. It is said that Illness comes on horse back but leaves on tortoise back. Those who are claiming that he and his admin is have failed the American people. His failures should be celebrated because he has consistently learned from them. This the the metal of a good leader and his leadership.
Nothing attempted is for naught, In all we do their is reward. Challenge changes us, Hard work strengthens. Inwardly we aspire, Outwardly perspire. If we labour and wait, Rewards will follow after. Some sacrifice we must make to appease the gods of our dreams, and then above the odds rise.
You know what's malarky? It being one's 25th wedding anniversary and your husband not getting you anything, not even sending flowers to work. It's not like he can forget this date! Happy birthday to former MLBerTrot Nixon's son, born on 09/11/01 and to anyone else who marks a b-day or wedding anniversary today. At least we have something on this date of remembrance.

It must really hurt you, as you've just demonstrated amply why the Red states are the blood sucking drag on the rest of the country. I would be very happy if your states kept their own fed tax money and the feds stop sending them a penny.
Gotta love Joe! I'm making another donation to the Obama campaign today. My third this month already!
I don't think I'd ever want to elect him for president, but I think he's a great VP.
Slow Joe is a beacon of charity as we all well know.
Nice to see we have a REAL VP that's a straight talking guy unlike these clowns Mitt and Eddie Munster
Mitt goes on TV and says oh no I won't repeal all of Obamacare there are parts I like then 10 minutes later his team has to retract his Flip Flop
I believe he says these things on national shows as he knows the Independents watch while all his RWW are glued to Faux News.............Then when what he says gets reported he flips back so that the RWW base doesn't get upset
Mitt and Eddie Munster two guys that will say ANYTHING to get elected..........
Thank God for President Obama and VP Biden
Some comparisons of Joe Biden to Paul Ryan...
Joe is honest, Ryan isn't.
...not much need to go on. I can stand with Joe's word, I don't know what to believe about Ryan.
Joe lost his wife and his daughter.... and his two sons were seriously injured in an auto accident...right after he was first elected to Congress. He took his oath of office in the hospital at the foot of his sons bed. But he continued on..taking the train back and forth to be with his kids. Joe has character....Joe is one of us...I'll go for a man like that way before I'd go for a couple of rich spoiled brats anyday.
Joe Biden is a regular guy...he can say BS all he wants if it's used in the correct context....and it was
Joe is a straight-shooter and exactly the sort of leader America needs. We have absolutely no need for the spoiled preppies offered with "Rob-Me" Romney and "Lyin" Ryan.
I am grateful for President Obama and Vice President Biden. Through their efforts, I was able to keep my home and secure and very affordable modified loan. They have my support and my vote!
Joe is just a good ole boy.
remember uncle JOE always spoke his mind. That was yesteryear.
Joe's son Bow did his voluntary military service to our country .
After Dick Cheney, Vice-President Biden is a sight for sore eyes. What a good and decent man. He can relate with the common man because he is a common man who, despite being at the highest level of government can still relate to people. This is what we need in a Vice-President, not some man who maps out wars and shoots people in the face (I know, I know, that was low. I apologize – well not really).
You can make fun of Biden for putting his foot in his mouth a lot, but at least he doesn't blatantly lie like Ryan:
"In his convention speech, Ryan gave considerable emphasis to his claim that 1.4 million businesses filed for bankruptcy in 2011, far more than the 330,000 that did so in the final year of the Jimmy Carter administration. Turns out 47,086, not 1.4 million, is the correct number for 2011. Ryan drastically overstated, in order to make things sound much worse than they are."
So he's either really stupid (how do you confuse 1.4 million with 47k?) or he's a big time liar. Take your pick, but I'm guessing liar based on his sub 3 hour marathon he claimed to have run.
You left out the part about the VP saying 9/11 brought back bittersweet memories. Still trying to figure out the sweet part of 9/11, at least for Americans. A heartbeat away, unbelievable. At least with the President we know we're getting an incompetent socialist, Biden is like Forrest Gump's box of chocolates.
