Obama: Romney overstepped on Libya, Egypt attacks

(CNN) - President Barack Obama, responding to criticism from his rival Mitt Romney on the U.S. response to attacks in Egypt and Libya, said Romney had spoken before making a full assessment of the facts.

"There's a broader lesson to be learned here," Obama said in a CBS interview. A clip of the interview was aired Wednesday afternoon.

"Gov. Romney seems to have a tendency to shoot first and aim later, and as president, one of the things I've learned is you can't do that," the president continued. "It's important for you to make sure that the statements that you make are backed up by the facts and that you've thought through the ramifications before you make them."

Asked if he thought Romney's statements were "irresponsible," Obama said he'd "let the American people judge that."

Irresponsible only begins to describe Romney's actions. We need a mature, thoughtful, and careful person in the White House, which is why I support Obama.

Romney is an idiot when it comes for foreign policy. He proved that with his overseas trip. He makes George Bush look down right diplomatic. Irresponsible statements made in this country while trying to get elected are one thing, but making those types of statements while overseas or about about things overseas, is quite another. We need a diplomat in the White House, not a one-eyed gunslinger.

I get that Mitt is desperate but as we learned from George W. foreign policy can't just be a feeling. Facts matter and in a dangerous world that moves quickly America can not again throw away soldier's lives and a trillion dollars on the hunch of a well meaning doofus.

Well we're judging and they were irresponsible. "Shoot first aim later." Good one Mr. President. Sounds like Bush to me.

This president has been attacked like no other president i could of think in recent history. Its funny how stupid some people are, 3 to 4 years can't fix decades of bad decisions. The funny part is the congressmen and women who made those dumb decisions just blame Obama and duck and will eventually get reelected. Keep in mind we dont have a king we have a president folks

Thank God we have this honest, sincere, caring, smart man leading our great country! Obama makes us all so proud to be Americans! Too bad the Romney/Ryan ticket does not share our American pride, beliefs, or values. They (R&R) are only out for themselves and the high-rollers who bankroll their campaigns.

Funny that the embassy apology came out 9+ hours before Romney said anything. And all the embassy said was to apologize, and as it turns out now, the attack was premeditated.

The President is extremely correct, Romney Statements were misleading and incoherent. We as Americans should not be surprised by Romney/Ryan incompetence. The Romney/ Ryan motto should read the Flip – Flopping – Lying express

Romney is a good example of acting first and thinking about it later.......similar to Bush and the Iraq War......if you people want to get this country out of the debt we are in, then it isn't by voting for Romney, he just proved he will not cut the military budget because he is going to go after Iran, and anyother country he doesn't like......he is such buddies with Isreal, he will probably take on Iran just to show Isreal what a great ally we really are.......

I wonder if Romney fired somebody for giving him stoopid remarks to make on this. He can't even pretend to be competent to occupy the Oval Office. He's clearly only concerned with appealing to the far right in this country. SOMEBODY told him that's enough to win this election.

Mittens couldn't even handle going to England without insulting them. Does anyone think he can handle serious foreign policy? If you are that delusional, surely his behavior today will show you the light.

Romney should not be politicizing a foreign crisis while it is occurring. All he did was supply ammunition to the enemies of America by not backing the President. There is only one President at a time and there would have been loads of time for criticism in a few days but jumping into political attacks during the crisis just undermines American foreign policy.
