Obama: Romney overstepped on Libya, Egypt attacks

(CNN) – President Barack Obama, responding to criticism from his rival Mitt Romney on the U.S. response to attacks in Egypt and Libya, said Romney had spoken before making a full assessment of the facts.

"There's a broader lesson to be learned here," Obama said in a CBS interview. A clip of the interview was aired Wednesday afternoon.

"Gov. Romney seems to have a tendency to shoot first and aim later, and as president, one of the things I've learned is you can't do that," the president continued. "It's important for you to make sure that the statements that you make are backed up by the facts and that you've thought through the ramifications before you make them."

Asked if he thought Romney's statements were "irresponsible," Obama said he'd "let the American people judge that."

This is a clear pattern that Republicans have been using against Obama: don't give him any room to breathe, respond immediately to anything, and everything. From buses following his campaign stops, all the way back to attacking his Presidency from day 2 in office. But this particular time he(they) have overstepped his(their) position. He did not come across very Commander and Chiefly. He just appeared too eager, and his religious tone sounded weird.

It's sad to see someone that is running for president like Romney shoot off the mouth without knowing the facts, and in a place that we are supposed to show religious tolerance, and freedom of speech, it doesn't mean we have to treat people a certain way. If we are a christian nation like we claim why hate so much, I don't get the hypocrisy. Keep it up Mittens, you are just making Obama look even better.

Mittens is not ready. He really doesn't want to be president, but he wants to succeed where his father failed. Poor mittens, he might be seing Libya from Sarah's back yard.

    Romneyhas politicized a real tragedy.
I am all for freedom of speech too, but to incite other people to violence against US operations in Afghanistan, Egypt and other places is irresponsible and just plain wrong.

To interpret the statement the US Embassy in Cairo as an "apology" is lunacy, The embassy was simply trying to distance themselves from these people. It was not an apology at all. The response by Romney shows how ill prepared he is to address foreign service. To say this is part of American values means little to those people in other parts of the world who cannot make the distinction that this is freedom of speech that the US supports not the statements of those who would incite violence. For him to politicize this is just wrong.

Unlike B. Hussein Obama, Romney is at least sticking up for us and not apologizing.

Who is advising Mitt??? He makes a fool of himself every time he opens his mouth. We used to laugh at him, now we just shake our heads. And he keeps his faithful "hanger ons" busy covering his blunders...daily! I don't even care about his taxes anymore...he's just not electable in my book.

Holy Mackerel. Read the statement put out by the US Embassy. That statement could have easily incited the mob that stormed the embassy. That statement, right or wrong, was an American admission of guilt to an already "on edge toward Americans" mainstream society in Cairo. And now the Democrats are trying every effort they can with the help of CNN to cover Obama's back. Obama is the source of that statement. It wreaks of weakness.

Looks like the Republicans are getting really desperate and grasping at anything they can. It was really sad and shameful to see Rudy Giuliani on Wolf Blitzer parroting the Republican talking points and attacking Obama and defending Romney. Romney has absolutely no clue when it comes to foreign policy or diplomacy (or for that matter about anything else other than socking it to the middle class). His comments would be comical if the issues were not so serious. God help this country if by some remote chance Romney gets elected.

Put your "big boy" pants on Mr. President and take care of the countrys business. Your intelligent sources saw this coming and you did nothing to pre-empt it. What a pitiful display of leadership! So what to do, blame Romney for speaking the truth! Roll up your sleeves and go play some hoops!

Romney's daddy got rich off being a Governor, then Mittens followed his footsteps and got some sweet heart deals but that was not enough. Now Mittens wants to pretend to be a President, unbelievable!!!!!!!!!!!

Romneyis awkward in a minor interview, how on earth does anyone think he can be a President?

I have said it many times. That people should first bite their tongue before they open their mouth and talk. My grandmother thought me that. Go ahead mr. presidor. You are a smart man.

How can people say Romney doesn't think things through on foreign policy?
Wasn't going to Britain on the eve of the Olympics and saying they weren't ready thinking things through?
Wasn't going to Israel, inviting supports to a fund raiser, and doing it on a holy day thinking things through?
Wasn't going to Poland and having an aid curse at a friendly reporter about being respectful in a holy place thinking things through?
Wasn't shooting your mouth off about a serious foreign problem while Americans were dying and all the facts were not known thinking things through?
Gosh, I guess he really doesn't think things through!

@atest: Either you have been on vacation on a remote island for the past 3 1/2 years or you are simply demonstrating your bias of this President, regardless of facts. No President in recent history has spent his tenure working as hard as Obama has "for the people" who can no longer speak for themselves since they have no corporate lobbyist to represent their concerns. I don't know whether I should laugh or cry with Ramny's remarks. He is a privillaged boy who does not understand the sensitivity of the situation in Lybia. He made Sarah Pailin as a genious woman.
