Obama: Romney overstepped on Libya, Egypt attacks

(CNN) - President Barack Obama, responding to criticism from his rival Mitt Romney on the U.S. response to attacks in Egypt and Libya, said Romney had spoken before making a full assessment of the facts.

"There's a broader lesson to be learned here," Obama said in a CBS interview. A clip of the interview was aired Wednesday afternoon.

"Gov. Romney seems to have a tendency to shoot first and aim later, and as president, one of the things I've learned is you can't do that," the president continued. "It's important for you to make sure that the statements that you make are backed up by the facts and that you've thought through the ramifications before you make them."

Asked if he thought Romney's statements were "irresponsible," Obama said he'd "let the American people judge that."

If Romney has helped this President find his backbone, then so be it.

The reason I supported President Obama from the beginning is because of his judgment. He does not make hasty decisions. He was one of the few politicians that was against going into Iraq. Now Romney is shooting from the hip because he is behind in the polls. It was a DISGRACE to see Romney hold a press conferance this morning as if he is the commander in chief (he holds NO offiice currently), and crticizing our White House and our President in a time of crisis. These are times when the country is supposed to rally behind our President to be a cohesive front in the eyes of the world. You could save your criticisms for another time. I think Romney lost whatever slim chance he may have had to win.

Whatever being an "American" first, prior to a Republican or Democrat? It is incredible to me, that Gov. Romney , where we have lost four people, who are serving our country politizied this incident. Shame on him!

To the Families of our beloved servants for the United States, you all have our deepest regrets and sorrow at this time. May God give you all the courage and strength. We thank them for their unconditional love and time they shown for our country..We thank the families for allowing the time and support and service their love one gave.. It is never easy to lose a love one for any reason at any time. During such terrible times around the country and as we all mourn with the family of our Great HEROS..I have nothing but disgrace for the GOP's nominees for President Mitt Romney to such a prestigious and serious office was so uncaring and out touch with the terrible tragedy and death of our fellow Americans. Mitt Romney is truly a joke and do not express the majority views of Americans. We understand grief and mourning of love ones. Maybe he need to just step down from political arena. He is not ready for this stage as America's leader.. He is not what we precede a President to do at a time like this. President Obama and Ms Clinton followed the right protocol. They are very caring and confronting in their deliverance of the tragic news. Mitt Romney got HOME and feed your horses and watch your car elevator go up and down. Please everyone vote for PRESIDENT OBAMA AND ALL DEMOCRATS IN THEIR RACES ON NOVEMBER 6, 2012.

Well, unlike the preceding comments in this room... I am not a bot. I think this story is ridiculous and attempts to frame the coordinated attempt by the media to stage this story. Romney was dead on. THAT'S leadership.

The bottom line is that when a president's thoughts should go to the safety and well being of our country and those who are putting their lives on the line for it, Romney's thoughts instead went immediately to how he could use the situation to help himself.

Shoot first and aim later .... hmmmm.... just like in the case of Harvard University professor Henry Louis Gates, Jr's arrest during which Obama immediately accused the Cambridge police of acting "stupidly?" How about Obama butting in the Travon Martin case and saying, "If I had a son, he’d look like Trayvon." Our agitator-in-chief always spouts off for maximum effect.

I find it funny how everyone is commenting that Romney is a liar. Where have you all been for the past 4 years. We have consistently been lied to by President Obama. Don't get me wrong the President is a smooth talker, but that is about it.

Romney spoke way too soon, and when he did, he made it a partisan attack. Nothing partisan about what happened. Add that to the laundry list of why he shouldn't be Prez. But I guess it takes away the attention to the fact that he still hasn't produced his tax returns. I can't wait to see the GOP hate blitz being applied after the first debate, when Romney gets whipped by Obama. So much flip flop material for Obama to use. Get your popcorn.

Corlis – Romney for president, if this is allowed to happen our nation will be no more. "Lord Please help those that I have lost their familys in this crisis. In God's name we all pray."

Pretty sure we've had a worse terrorist attack then this and survived just fine...

We are too damned stron a nation to let a small group of backward thinking extremist with a couple RPGs stop us.

BTW...I hear the President is sending in the Marines as well as unmanned drones. Time to kick some ass and take some names.

Once again Mitt Romney has shown to the American people and the world that if he gets elected President he will bring back the irresponsibility, stupidity and nonsense back to the White House. It has being taken four years for the Obama administration to barely start cleaning the 8 year old mess left by the Republican Party. What a moron!!

I do not know why people ever elected Mitt to the republican ticket. I always said go Ron Paul! Yet the establishment cant seem to even stay on message. Saying one day that abortion isn't right by any means in their platform, then again saying Mitt Romney has his own stance on abortion. Yet he's the leader of the republican ticket? Or is he just a pawn? Mitt Romney reminds me of a kitten on a rug scratching for dear life in the hopes of finding the catnip. In other words he will do and say anything to get the prize. The Republican party needs to stop going so far to the right. They seem to not understand by doing this, they loose the libertarians and the others that are in the middle. You can't etch a sketch back to the middle when you went so far to the right to get elected by your party. When will there be a place again for us libertarians and moderates that are in the middle?
