(CNN) – President Barack Obama, responding to criticism from his rival Mitt Romney on the U.S. response to attacks in Egypt and Libya, said Romney had spoken before making a full assessment of the facts.
"There's a broader lesson to be learned here," Obama said in a CBS interview. A clip of the interview was aired Wednesday afternoon.
"Gov. Romney seems to have a tendency to shoot first and aim later, and as president, one of the things I've learned is you can't do that," the president continued. "It's important for you to make sure that the statements that you make are backed up by the facts and that you've thought through the ramifications before you make them."
Asked if he thought Romney's statements were "irresponsible," Obama said he'd "let the American people judge that."

Shoot first..pay later...wow Romney, you really should have let The President and The Secretary of State handle this one without your partison election day politics. People died....
Yeah a "Broader lesson to be learned" Stay out of other countries issues.
Go Obama
obama is such a joke...romney is finally calling him out on his weak foreign policy positions...this disaster just killed the election for obama
If Romney was president right now he would probably respond by cutting taxes and invading Iran.
Romney seemed more than willing to talk before he had all the facts on the consulate attack in Libya. So when Romney is holding back he must be hiding something. Where are your tax returns, Mitt? Can you tell us what loopholes you will close to pay for your tax plan?
Right, keep riding Obama's coat tails and keep blaming Bush for everything that has gone wrong. Remember when Bush was in office and warning was given about regulating Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac from Bush, Cheney and others, the Democrat held House and Senate scoffed at the notion. Then once the balloon popped who got blamed but Bush, even though a Democratic president took away the regulation for watching the bad mortgages and the Democrats in the house and senate never checked it out even after warnings. Sorry, but Obama clearly isn't the answer and unfortunantly neither is Romney.
Romney is not even close to being qualified to be President!
Romney should be pink-slipping some of his staff at this point. There have been way too many factual errors made by his campaign – and this incident is beyond the pale.
Obama responds: Romney tends to 'shoot first and aim later'
By NBC's Domenico Montanaro and Matt Loffman
President Obama responded today to Mitt Romney's attack on him for his administration's handling of the violence in Egypt and Libya, saying the Republican presidential nominee has "a tendency to shoot first and aim later."
"There's a broader lesson to be learned here, and, you know, Gov. Romney seems to have a tendency to shoot first and aim later," Obama said in an interview with CBS's 60 Minutes. A portion of the interview aired in a CBS Special Report. "As president, one of the things I've learned is you can't do that. It's important for you to make sure that the statements you make are backed up by the facts, and that you thought through the ramifications before you make them."
Asked if he thought the statements made by Romney were irresponsible, Obama said, "I'll let the American people judge that."
Yes MR. PRESIDENT the American People need to Juge this act of Mr. Romney... He is NOT a LEADER!!! You Mr.President are a great leader America is Blessed to have you and Mr. Biden at the healm. WAKE UP AMERICA Romney tried to use an statement issued by an Embassy trying to defuse a situation and make it as a weak step by our President BEFORE the ACT of TERROISM happened... That is scarry seems like Romney had some kind of inside info... WAKE UP AMERICA VOTE OBAMA/BIDEN...
Message to Romney: You are not the President. You do not set policy. You do not deploy troops. You have no command over anyone in this situation. And you could have potentially made a bad situation much worse by running your mouth. Put a cork in it.
It is reassuring to have a cool headed leader in times of crisis. Romney once again shows he cannot offer the kind of leadership Obama epitomizes. Truly a disgrace.

I am proud to be an American woth a President like OBAMA. I want the debt to go down and I want jobs to come home and I want healt care for all. I will see this with another 4 years with our president. I am sorry MR. PRESIDENT for the rude comments from your rival.
NUFF SAID: "A timeline of the events suggests Romney was WRONG in his accusation that the Obama administration's "first response" on Tuesday was one of sympathy for those who started the violence itself–as the violence came after the first statement was published."
Romney is truly no good, like as a person. You can see it in his eyes.
Romney demonstrated his lack of character in trying to make political gains out of this incident. Is this an example of what the American people need for a president? Not now or ever!
Wow, Mitt is in a bit of a bind. Maybe he should release his tax returns as a diversion.
Did somebody really bring Bush into this discussion? I don't recall his relevance to the current situation in Libya, nor do I remember anyone blaming Bush for it. POTUS hit the nail on the head with his statement... Regardless of your party, foreign policy requires somebody to look, listen and think, then decide on a course of action. Romney's tendency to jump right in and start talking without assessing the situation correctly first... Terrifying.
Romney needs to fire his entire staff including himself from the election. He makes himself seem so dumb, which he is! If he was a President, every country would be against us and we would stay in war. #Obama2012
