Romney to receive intel briefings starting next week

Sterling, Virginia (CNN) - After Mitt Romney was knocked back on his heels for commenting on the diplomatic attacks in the Middle East before all of the facts were in, advisers to the GOP nominee said he has yet to receive national security briefings from the Obama administration.

But those briefings will begin next week, a campaign spokesperson told CNN on Thursday.

"For the last several weeks, the Romney campaign has been in touch with the intelligence community to arrange intelligence briefings for Gov. Romney and Rep. Ryan, consistent with tradition," the spokesperson, who declined to be named, told CNN. "They will begin next week and, beyond that, we will have no further comment."

It is customary in the latter stages of a general election campaign for presidential challengers to get these vital intelligence updates, regardless of which party is in power.

A top Romney foreign policy adviser acknowledged on Wednesday the death of a U.S. ambassador in Libya was not yet known to the campaign when it issued a statement that sharply criticized the president's handling of the crisis.

The initial statement released by the Romney campaign late Tuesday night did, however, note the death of an "American consulate worker."

A senior Romney strategist told CNN Thursday the campaign is confident the controversy sparked by the Republican contender's comments would blow over in time.

The strategist said Romney's criticism highlighted the "big differences" in the race.

I hope he doesn't get them, especially since he can not handle it. Romneyhood is an embarassment to society. Show us your taxes and we will show you the National Security breifings.

Mittens stupidity may blow over in time, but thank God he is not in charge. Over reaction is a Bush trait, and Mittens makes "W" look like a genius.

Good. IN light of Mittens' now proven penchant for rash, knee-jerk, reactionary flailing for political points, he should eb considerd a security risk if given such information. He'd be in closed-door meetings with Rove, Boehner and McConnell with the information he's given within the hour.

Mittens just needs to go home ot one of his mansions and stop blaming others for his ignorance, arrogance, stupidity and warmongering. Stick a fork in him – he's done.

Probably best not to share this information with Mittens. He's liable to do something really stupid and completely destroy our national security. GO OBAMA 2012!!

It's customary for candidates to release at least 10 years of tax returns too.

Giving Romney any kind of national security information would be dangerous. One can only imagine how many lives would be in danger as this idiot shoots his mouth off and tries to play President.

He'd probably feed the information to China and Israel.

Romney is a "loose cannon" i.e. Russia is our number one political foe..............on various day, we need to attack Iran, Syria, Libya, Russia, Palestine etc........he should not be trusted by vital national information until he learns to show more discretion in foreign and strategic issues....

First off maybe the Obama administration should make things known to the public quicker, they need to cuut the crap and stop being secretive about these things. Second off its a stupid movie that was made, we believe in free expression here. There's no need to kill people over a stupid movie. This Islamists do not appreciate anything, you feed them and protect them and then they do this. They are nothing but animals, we should let them starve and perish. We have our own problems to take care off, cut their funding and strenghten our allies, and by allies I don't mean those that are your friends today and kill you @ night (Libya). Mitt Romney 2012! We need stronger foreign Policy!

"A top Romney foreign policy adviser acknowledged on Wednesday the death of a U.S. ambassador in Libya was not yet known to the campaign when it issued a statement that sharply criticized the president's handling of the crisis."

Yet on the very next day, Romney DID know and still pushed his lies forward. Give it up, Romney. You made the call and you stuck by it. No sympathy from this voter. You DON'T use the death of Americans to make political hay. Period.

Neither do you go around calling America "weak" during wartime. It doesn't help those fighting to protect America, nor does it make you look more "manly".

He doesn't deserve to get them until he releases 5-10 more years of taxes.

So far Romney hasn't said anything to help calm the situation and minimize the violence against Americans. He's done the opposite. Maybe he hasn't gotten any briefings as an issue of national security. It might be in his best interest because he seems to blunder with the information he DOES get. Clearly, he's clueless when it comes to approaching foreign affairs.

So because numb-nutts didn't ask for a briefing HE gets none! Not sure see a problem with that and I say it only proves robo-Romney is not interested in Americans only how much money he can get out of the country.

what an excuse. this guy truly has it made for him. he is far better off sticking his sliver foot down his golden mouth and just shut up. if you have no clue what you are talking about then why open your big mouth. keep doing it Mitt. your days and the days of the Tea Party in politics are numbered, then you are off to the trash

Well that makes sense for a crooked president to do. Since Obama's Achilles heel is National security it only makes sense for his campaign to withhold information from Romney so that Romney cannot be informed ahead of the Presidential debates. Obama! The more things change, the more they stay the same!.

Earlier today, a right wingnut said that Mittens is loyal to American values. I never thought of lying, being wrong on every issue that will help Americans, tax evasion, jobs outsourcing, money laundering, being a failure as governor of MA, threatening war were American values. They more reflect the values of a mobster.
