Romney to receive intel briefings starting next week

Sterling, Virginia (CNN) - After Mitt Romney was knocked back on his heels for commenting on the diplomatic attacks in the Middle East before all of the facts were in, advisers to the GOP nominee said he has yet to receive national security briefings from the Obama administration.

But those briefings will begin next week, a campaign spokesperson told CNN on Thursday.

"For the last several weeks, the Romney campaign has been in touch with the intelligence community to arrange intelligence briefings for Gov. Romney and Rep. Ryan, consistent with tradition," the spokesperson, who declined to be named, told CNN. "They will begin next week and, beyond that, we will have no further comment."

It is customary in the latter stages of a general election campaign for presidential challengers to get these vital intelligence updates, regardless of which party is in power.

A top Romney foreign policy adviser acknowledged on Wednesday the death of a U.S. ambassador in Libya was not yet known to the campaign when it issued a statement that sharply criticized the president's handling of the crisis.

The initial statement released by the Romney campaign late Tuesday night did, however, note the death of an "American consulate worker."

A senior Romney strategist told CNN Thursday the campaign is confident the controversy sparked by the Republican contender's comments would blow over in time.

The strategist said Romney's criticism highlighted the "big differences" in the race.

after his most recent comments and the most recent trip abroad, it is my belief that Mitt Romney should not be getting national security briefings. He might try to exploit national security for his own personal political gain
    And that's real
This man has acted a fool with foreign policy

If American people all take drugs, lose grip on reality, and elect Mittens, I think we really might need to use those 2nd amendment remedies.

The daily national security briefings should be released when Mitt releases his tax returns.

He didn't even request the briefing lol " An administration official told CNN it is up to the Romney campaign to ask for the briefings. It's unclear whether the request has been made. Romney advisers declined to comment any further on the matter." and if they decline the comment..i guess it was never requested. OMG how many reason do we need to finaly say mitt is not fit to run the country?

One important line in the article – when asked if Rmoney had ASKED for the briefings, which is his responsibility, the Rmoney team clammed up. Mittens didn't even ASK for the briefings! THAT's why he's not getting them. That mean old Obama.

Romney isn't smart enough to receive them.

He does have to pass a security clearance, though, which leads us back to his "tax problem".

Excuuuuuuuuuuuuuuse me, but why should this private citizen pretending he wants to be president get any briefings on national security or how many times members of congress go potty?
    He is NOT anybody!!!
Even if his campaign numb nuts asked why should he get any briefings. Maybe his boy toy can ask Issa to steal them for him and he can then give them to the bully bishop at 3 a.m.

Mittens is clueless, he did not ask for security briefings because he is basing his campaign on being white.

    pick one:
Obama would have provided a briefing but could not because it was Bush's fault some years ago.
Obama was blocked from giving a briefing by Republicans.
Obama promised to give the briefing but then just didn't, but spoke very passionately about it.

Any chance Mitt could just be wrong? And what he said was not justified? No? Just keep blaming Obama, and the media, and the Libyans, and Marty McFly & Doc. Brown.

  16. The REAL Truth...

Oh that nasty old Federal Govt.. not giving poor 'lil ole Mitt the Twit security briefings... shame, shame, shame.
I guess the Twit's campaign was so busy Obama bashing that they forgot to request the briefings. Shame, shame, shame.
Had they submitted the request, Mittens might have avoided yet another "open mouth remove foot" incident over his Libya/Egypt timings/comments just yesterday. Some people are so arrogant it smarts. They never learn. Truth and fact is irrelevant. The people are stoo_pid so we can make up our own facts!

Even Obama doesn't bother with intel, why would they be concerned with Romney getting intel info.

Could it be that he (robo-Romney) isn't intrested in them because he never requested them. Maybe he only wants to be briefed on how much money America has.

If Mitt went to a briefing he'd be the only one in the room except the briefer, Obama just reads the report from the briefer, no need to talk to them he is much smarter an does not need to listen...Me also would rather stay in bed or on the Golf course...

@ RLA the so called community organizer is the President Of the United States., not Romneyhood the tax cheat, war dodging. liar who wants to be president, but will not be because he is too stupid for his own good. If Romney asked and Obama refused, that is probably Obama's best decision for securing the safety of America. A blabber mouth like MItt that shoots his mouth off without the facts can be dangerous.

At least the Bush team had intel meetings and Bush attended them, Obama is just out playing basketball during intel meetings, oh wait, he reads the briefings when he goes to bed or when he is making beer.

Romney isn't smart enough to receive them.
    ---------------------

And Obama couldn't explain them because he doesn't know, which is most likely why he misses his intel meetings.
