(CNN) - Jesse Benton, a top political adviser to both Rep. Ron Paul and his son, Sen. Rand Paul, will head Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell's bid for re-election, Benton said Thursday.
Benton acted as Ron Paul's campaign manager during the Texas congressman's bid for the Republican nomination earlier this cycle. In 2010 Benton led Rand Paul's tea party-backed bid for Senate in Kentucky.
McConnell, who is serving his fifth term representing Kentucky in the U.S. Senate, is up for re-election in 2014.
Though McConnell backed Rand Paul's GOP primary opponent in 2010, the two Kentucky lawmakers have since developed a professional relationship.
CNN's Peter Hamby contributed to this report.
I hope McConnell is voted OUT!!! He is nothing but a destructionist. He has too many terms already. Time for new blood.
McConnell should be impeached by dereliction of duties and obstruction of Congress.
The man is the worst example of what a Public Servant’s responsibilities and duties are.
He does not understand where the politics end, and service to the American People begins!
Another Republican Fraud that should be removed from office along with Cantor.
If I were an intelligent Kentuckian. I would rather re-elect a new dog than literally turtle head personMitch does not only look like a frog he embody's them slow and a waste of space. Even Chinese geomancer thinks that turtles are unlucky pets to have their slowness represent slow growth in progress and ever since his party is put to power nothing get's done.
Not a single favorable opinion about this toad. He looks constipated and puzzled. McConnell is a mega constrictor of any conclaves, and he must be booted out uncereminiously, forthwith, since this imbecile is not at all forthright.
